He was funny on SNL but I am not a big fan of his political views.

If Al Gore was elected in 2000, would 9/11 happened?
by free2beme ini was thinking about this today, as al gore did win the popular vote and lost because of how the electoral college works.
so people like to blame 9/11 on bush, and fahrenheit 9/11 really tried to make it look like bush.
i remember when the movie, "the road to 9/11" came out, clinton was having a fit that it showed the problems with 9/11 started while he was in office.

I doubt there was anything anyone could have done to halt 9/11.
I don't presuppose to understand what really Bush knows or doesn't know nor the pressures of being the president of the USA. It has seemed to age him.
The decisions he has made, I can't agree with all of them but then again we really don't know the WHY behind all of them. Upon full disclosure maybe some would change their minds.
Maybe?
My opinion of Al Gore is that he is either a pure IDIOT or GENIUS. Global warming has not been proven to be caused by human activities, but he has turned it into one hell of a money maker for himself. He should have stuck to hunting ManBearPig. I don't think he could have done anything to stop 9/11
Over all, ALL politicians are crooked some how and look out for their own interests.

Acts 5:42 (from house to house) OR (in private homes)
by rassillon in***i believe i have the correct scripture here but if i don't please correct me.
i have thought a great deal on this topic since i first read it in one of ray franz books isocf.. he had a section that dealt with the greek term translated "house to house" and compared it to other scriptures which contained the same greek phrase and showed that it was likely that it should be translated "in private homes".. now i know that some will make the point that "house to house" is a valid translation and from what i know (which is very little) cannot disagree.. what i can say though is that from my knowledge about life in this period and this area of the world and from my traveling to ruins of ancient citys i would have to agree with franz that the phrase "in private homes" makes more sense because preaching from "house to house/door to door" at that time period would have been extreemely ineffective.
preaching in a public square and then returning with interested ones to their "private homes" for further discussion would make more sense if one was to be effective.. from those with a knowledge of the time/place/culture that this scripture applies to, do you agree with me?

Thanks for your input.

ability to digest milk - prove of natural selection in humans?
by DannyBloem infound this scientific article:.
basically it is found that early europeans (7000 years ago) were mostly lacking the gene that makes it posible to digest milk.. modern europeans have this gene for 90%.
they argue that the gene has advantage for childhood survival and therefore has become dominant.. this proves natural section at work.

Children of all races can digest milk because their bodies produce lactase.
The ability diminishes (production of lactase) as they grow older with the ability to digest milk going from least to most Asian - Black - White.

Religion! Is it the Opium of the masses?
by DJK inwhy do you feel you need religion?
sorry, i am an atheist and i had to ask this question..

I do have faith and I believe.
But I do not need a religion.
Religion is manufactured by man, man is flawed, thus religion is flawed.

Will The WTB&TS's Teachings Be Responsible For Another Life
by rassillon ini know some will make the point that i shouldn't be writing this at this time, but believe me, at this moment all i can do is wait.

I know some will make the point that I shouldn't be writing this at this time, but believe me, at this moment all I can do is wait. I have people working on the situation.
That situation is:
As many may remember a month or so ago my wife left me because she found out that I had doubts. It was not of my choice and I was not trying to change anybodies mind. I was even still going to meetings to support her.
Anyway, we have only spoken a couple of times in the past month. She has taken to sending me text messages. I seriously think she has mental problems.(stress induced)
The messages range from calling me evil and asking why I am doing this to her .....all the way to....I am sorry I hope you find what you are looking for.
In all of this I have tried to treat her with respect.
The latest message I got from her is that she is going to try to kill herself.
I feel this is possible since she is depressive. The problem is that she moved out, got an apartment and hasn'nt told anyone where she lives.
So I have called everyone I think she might listen to and have them trying to contact her and talk to her.
Why do I trouble with this message?
I was a true believer in the WT and had a very strong faith that what they taught was "THE TRUTH" as they call it.
Now I see to detrimental power that this authoritarian power structure can have on people.
People like myself are uneffected by their efforts but it is the sweet, innocent people who are crushed in its gripp.
If you question if what I say is true please feel free to contact me.
If you care for your family or loved ones, be very very careful when it comes to this organization, their influence reaches deep into some people, especially the most sensitive ones.

Big Screen TV: LCD or Plama? Which Brand?
by UnConfused inanyone with personal experience concerning big screen tv's?
-
rassillon
I have been researching Plasma / LCD TVs for about 2 years now.
I have set and watched many in many different situations.
I have not bought one yet, basically I have been waiting for the price to come down and quality to go up.
I am really picky
Things I have learned,
LCDs look better close up.
LCDs last longer
LCD picture quality "now" rivals the best plasmas
LCD are generally cheaper
LCDs and Plasmas both have a poor picture with NON-HD signals. (the smaller the tv the less noticeable - the larger the more)
Make sure the TV you get will allow you to switch between wide and 4:3 format or the 4:3 will stretch and look wierd.
Depending on the distance you are going to be watching this from you may want to buy a smaller or larger set.
My choice which I will be purchasing soon is the Sharp Aquos LC-32D50U.
You may choose a 37" and I suggest going larger ONLY if you have a really large room. Some people don't mind but there is definitly a picture quality issue here.
The new Sharp line is using a new LCD panel now made by Sharp which is superior to the previous version. Has a very wide viewing angle. Is very bright so it can even be seen well in rooms with windows. Also has a very low ms refresh rate for less ghosting during fast action images.
That is my 2cents.

Today Is My Point of No Return - Or Is It?
by TheMan inalmost every night, i would get a phone call from my book study overseer, asking how i was, where i was.
whereas witnesses, when they experience hard times, stop going to meetings?
of course, my wife and i want to leave the witnesses, and i don't want to offend anyone in the process.
-
rassillon
First, Change your phone number.
Continue to blame your wifes pregnency on missing meetings.
Tell the elders when they ask that you are depressed and are seeing a therapist.
Go to the hall occasionally, arrive late, leave early.
After a year or so you should be able to stop going without too many questions.
Rejoice that you have your wife, Mine did not take it so well, I am alone. But on the bright side I have no problem telling people who get in my personal business where to shove it and if they don't I will do it for them.
Sorry for your situation, It is the nature of the beast.
