  i was reading the thread about 2015 being the "new" end of the times and had a question to those that were in the borg around 1975 when the end was to come then.

  i was only 7 and new to the borg, so i don't remember, but what exactly was everyone expecting?

  fire and brimstone?

  I remember this very well because of being close to an elder that deemed it his life's pleasure to mold us. It was just a couple of years before 1975 that my father started giving public talks. This was at the time that the brothers were given a subject matter and they had to write their own talks. No outlines at that time. When the society decided to blame the brothers for their take on what the society had strongly impled, they also then implimented the outlines for all public talks. This way no brother could teach things other than what came straight from the society. Granted, this made it much easier for the brothers, but even as a teenager I thought this was strange...hand feeding ALL information. I felt that part of the fun of giving talks was being able to look up information and "making the truth your own" to coin a phrase.

  Does Watchtower Society monitor this board?

  i've seen it mentioned many times in many threads: "the society monitors jwd, don't post anything you don't want them to know etc.

  i have even made that point myself in the past.. my question is this: does the wtbts monitor this discussion board?.

  or have we all been propagating our own xjw urban myth?.

  finally got some pix of my band at practice.

  doesn't have a name yet, although "warehouse" has been suggested (for obvious reasons).

  we've just about got enough material now to make it through an entire night.

  Good for you!!! I am so excited. My hubby may be in a band again (he is 53). He at one time played with the band "Chicago" and music has been his life. I am hoping he joins this local band.

  IMHO, I don't think that the WTS really cares whether Jesus was hung on a cross or a stake other than it can "claim" he was hung on a stake so they can be different than the mainstream. They use wording to keep their rank and file in line.

  For example:

  1) Cross vs. stakeWHO THE HELL CARES WHAT JESUS DIED ON? ALL I CARE IS THAT HE DIED FOR MY SINS.

  2) Voluntary (sp, just for you LDH) donations to the cause.
  a. Yes, it is true they do not send around a basket for donations, but they certainly do have donation boxes in plain view in the Hall. They have a monthly accounting for expenses, and if that has not been met...they push (announce) that more is needed.
  b. I about tripped on the "contribution" boxes while trying to leave the summer convention. ugh!!!

  3) Hell.
  a. They accuse other religions for holding hell over their parishioners (sp, another one for you LDH) yet they use different terms but it is the same thing. ie: "If you leave Jehovah, you will never live in His New System" or "If you leave, you will lose your family"...etc.

  Just for LDH:

  If there are any mispellings, please forgive my ignorance...I cannot be as perfect as you apparently.

  No mulan, I am not implying that at all. The only thing I am saying is that he has a great venue of sales going on here. Call me a cynic, but I am very leary of this type of thing. If I had gone to his site and this was not on it...I would have ordered.

  dungbeetle, what I would suggest is that you look into Legal Insurance. Go to the PrePaid Legal site and see what it can do for you. I am an Associate, but I don't understand it all, but what I do know is that you have so many hours under the Insurance and then after that you are charged $125/hour for help. I know that sounds like a lot but if you pay the charges outright...it is much more per hour than that. Just a thought.

  I am trying not to be a downer but if:

  Aromescence, as the business is known, has about 200+ stores in the state of Kentucky including about 70% of the state parks. The candles are sold by dealers and purchased by individuals in about 45 other states as well as over 30 countries around the world. Aromescence hires part-time workers during busy seasons.

  I as a busniness owner would be as happy as "a pig in poop."

  Now, don't get me wrong...I think Bill has done a great deal of good...but...

  to those that say that most jw's are windowwashers(due to no higher education), well you're wrong.

  some are carpet cleaners, grease monkeys, pizza delivery boys, bread delivery boy, drivers, hair cutters, carwashers, toilet cleaners.... hey wait a minute... like the allmighty homer j. simpson said "dough!!

  bendrr, I hope this makes you feel a bit better. When I hear "grease monkey" I think of a person who is in those quick oil change places...which, btw, my MS father worked at before he retired.

  Circuit Overseers and Corruption

  as an ex presiding overseer and public affairs spokesperson who is now disfellowshipped!!!

  i am new to this site and have read with keen interest the many and varied topics that have been posted.

  during my 9 years of presiding i encountered certain corrupt c/os for example the friends would treat them like little demy gods, hanging onto their every word, they would, on their visit influence the brothers to part with cash for privledges.

  I thank God every day for this man!. At the time that I left the borg, if the C.O. had been the least bit compassionate (Waschauk) I might still be there today. That man is a total horses ass!!!
