I notice some of this same thing at other Churches - but not to the extent as what I seen at the KH. I think it's probably because at other Churches you don't have to fear being marked and df'd.

Styrofoam Personalities at the Kingdom Hall
by Nosferatu ini think it's absolutely amazing how people strip off the old personality, and put on the new personality when they enter the kingdom hall.
everyone looks incredibly phony.
those smiles aren't genuine.

Help/feedback on starting a support group
by Dawn ina few friends and i would like to start up a support group for x-jw's in our area.
the longer i am out and the more i have healed, the more my heart breaks for those that are still floundering about not knowing what to do or where to go.
my life has evolved into such a wonderful beautiful thing - freedom and peace - i just wish this for so many others that are still suffering.

Razorblade - thank you for your honesty. I think you are right - I have one person still on the "inside" that I want to maintain contact with.
I have a couple of friends that are completely out - they may be willing to place the ad - I'll talk with them.
Any ideas on a location?

I Am Changing The Word "Worldly" To Normal....
by minimus ininstead of making the difference known that anyone not a jehovah's witness is "worldly", i think we should simply refer to them as "normal".
-
Dawn
Minimus - I found it funny that the pastor in my church also uses the word "wordly". He uses it when referring to someone when they put more emphasis on something of the "world" than of God - in other words - we're ALL wordly from time to time. Hmmmmm got me to thinking........guess I'm not just "wordly" because I'm no longer a JW but am "wordly" because I'm human aka NORMAL!

How old were you when you got baptised???
by digderidoo in.
i was 15, quite old compared to some.. a friends child has just got baptised at 13.....to think that she knows what she wants for the rest of her life at that age seems ludicrous.. so, who here got baptised at the youngest age?.

13 - at the International Convention in Seattle. I did it because (a) I thought it was the truth and wanted to do the right thing, (b) I wanted my dad to be proud of me, and (c) I wanted to be one of those girls the guys want to marry.
Then I got rebaptised 2 years ago in a non-denominational Church - the second baptism REALLY meant something to me - I did it for one reason only - to commit myself to the Lord. I know I'm a screw up from time to time - but it's ok - he still loves me and I just keep plugging along.

A few friends and I would like to start up a support group for x-JW's in our area. The longer I am out and the more I have healed, the more my heart breaks for those that are still floundering about not knowing what to do or where to go. My life has evolved into such a wonderful beautiful thing - freedom and peace - I just wish this for so many others that are still suffering. I have talked with a number of x-JW's that still think the borg is the right and they are just bad people.......it is so sad.
I wanted to advertise and start up a group but I would have to give my name, phone# and address in order to place the ad. I tried placing it in person and paying cash - no go - a woman called back and said she needed all my personal info - which made me a little cautious so I didn't give it to her. I still have family "in" and don't want to break what little ties I have left with the hope that maybe some day I can reach them.
The other problem is where to have it.......I think people would like to come but are afraid of being "caught" as the elders will most likely also see the ad and case out the joint.
I'm not afraid of being "caught" there - I can play dumb........but how do I get around placing the ad without giving my personal info.......and what about ideas on a place to have it that would offer more security for others who do not want to be seen. Any ideas?

Counter Witnessing
by Yerusalyim in.
has anyone here ever followed around jw's out in service and followed them up to doors and warned householders about the religion as the dubs were trying to make their presentation?.
i might do this once to see what happens.

Problem is, how do you know WHERE they will be working in the territory.
Follow them from their Saturday morning meeting place - the Kingdom Hall

John 17:3 "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ" -NWT
The JW's interpret this scripture with the word "knowledge" being associated with information - in fact, my father always threw in the word "accurate"...."their taking in acurate knowledge of you" - in other words, you have to believe in the right doctrines and if you have faith in Jesus but believe in the wrong doctrine you don't have life........
But the greek word used for knowledge here is not the same word that the greeks use for "information" - it is a word that means a personal knowledge - for example "I know him, he's my friend".
So the scripture REALLY means that to gain everlasting life one needs to have a relationship with Jesus - to know him in a personal way. The NIV version translates it more accurately as "Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent"
I think that's a HUGE misinterpretation by the JW's.

"Thou Shalt Conform"
by forgetmenot inhello all...i hope ya'll have had a good summer and all...mine was (...well...) pretty crappy.
anyway, i have a new room mate @ my university now.
it's my fourth one in less than a full year (i think).
-
Dawn
forgetmenot - I feel your pain! I am a born again Christian and I share my faith when it's appropriate - but I see too many that are pushy - they insist that you do what THEY think you have to do to get saved.
My advice - reminder her that she is NOT your "holy spirit" - she shared the gospel with you and that's good - but it is not her place to force it on you - even Jesus did not force his teaching on people. He told them the truth - then let them make their decision.
We humans can be pretty darn pushy when we think we're right - whether it's politics, religion, or raising children.
Edited to ad.....Rodbar - that is HILLARIOUS!! I love it.

Probably a cat - I already have the costume and I found these really cook contacts that make you look like you have cat eyes.
