In my day gluttony was linked to orgiastic eating binges, kinda like the hot dog eating contests where the contestant eats 100 hot dogs in 15 minutes something like that and usually the winner is some little Japanese guy not a sumo wrestler lol

Disfellowshipping for Gluttony?
by Smoky inis that possible?..have there been any cases like this?.
my family have been on my case about me hanging around with people (non-jw family) that like to drink alot.
they went as far as to call me "a drunk"...now i do admit that i have been gotten drunk before on occasion, but i am not a drunk or an alcoholic.. so, i told my mother (obese) that if i were "a drunk" for getting drunk from time to time (not every day), then can she be considered "a glutton", for eating to much, obese, having health problems, all because of the way she eats?

I read that article which prompted a topic from me asking about families living at Bethel.
I too think it is a crock at jw memorials. When my dad died, at his funeral by the way in a funeral home not a hall. Nothing mentioned about what a great guy he was only the heavenly hope for a few and earth for the rest.

Question: If you don't believe the wts as truth why still in FS?
by hambeak ini am puzzled, i see a lot of new posts from supposedly active jw's passing out new tract and don't believe it.
i can understand still attending meetings especially if family is still involved.
why not just fade away?

Under believer I read your topic and I agree 100%. The analogy of gays coming out is in my case accurate. I led a double life for many years, for fear of losing family and friends. I finally admitted to myself and went through a lot of mental hell, having to divorce my wife and live my own life. Because of fear and misinformation I married thinking that would change me. Very bad for her, me, my kids and all whom I knew all my life. I only wish that young men and women in the org today that have issues (gay vs straight) they do not marry get away and start a new life.
As for active jw's I can understand and I think this board is great to help them. I know it helps me, because usually there is no one locally you can talk to.

Is God a Comedian?
by OUTLAW in..god created us..to fart?..why?..we`ve got to get rid of gas somehow..what does he give us to do it with?..a tiny friggin hole!..in our bum..??
?..he knew that was gonna make some noise..did he think that was funny?..god made beautifully fragrant flowers, you think he could have done a better job with the fart.but no,that had to be funny too..first comes a noise that would raise the dead, then an odor that would put them back in the grave..none of it makes any sense, unless your a comedian...outlaw

Juni has very good advice. By all means make an attempt to see your father. How far along is his Alzheimers? If he doesn't remember you it might be more painful for you and might be better to remember him like he used to be.

Hammurabi and Moses! Did Moses plagurise Hammurabi?
by Gill inhammurabi, a great king of the babylonians was a great lawgiver.
some of his laws were pretty humane and he set in place in babylon a legal system with judges, lawyers etc and some pretty advanced for its time, laws protecting women and children from abuse.. he claimed to have received his laws from the top of a mountain engraved in stone!.
he claimed this 500 years before moses did and to be honest, his laws were pretty much more humane, though still not overthrowing a life for a life, he was able to set in place compensation system which meant people of babylon were not after eachothers lives anymore for misdemeanours but could claim compensation from the courts.
