Scientific American put a great easy to read article out about the subject around 2003 I believe, check their website you can do a search and read older articles and even order the magazine if you want. www.sciam.com

i was a staunch jw and rarely read anything other than the wt/awake and newspapers (reading level - 6th grade maybe?
) prior to becoming a jw i could easily read a book a week...now it takes me forever just to get through one novel.
has anyone else lost their reading attention span?
I read two or three books a week, that on top of all my reading for school. When I did read the Watchtowers I would find them very annoying, I don't understand the pratice of just quoting scriptures all the time, who was to spend 20 minutes looking up damn scriptures. If your going to write an article on something and you have useful information from another source material you think they should know you should quote from the material then site it! In They are at about an 8th grade reading level and their grammer and sentence structure is suspect. They are also extremely guilty of 'quote mining', ie, taking a sentence of context and using it as an authoritve source and only looking at things from one side. This is a horrible way to argue and think about issues. They do their readers a great diservice by this, that why they must discourage education if a person learns how articles are suppose to be written or learns that issues aren't really as one sides as the WTS makes out then they will quickly lose faith.

I'm in Biochem no a days, but I do have a B.S. in Physics from Western Michigan University and I did my senior thesis on Quantum Computing and from what I can remember the effect has to do with Decoherence not information loss. The only physicist I know of to talk about infomation loss at a quantum level is Stephen Hawking on his theroy for black holes, but newer theories suggest he may have been wrong. I won't go into to much technical details here, but if you want to talk more maybe someone should start a thread on this topic alone, it is an interesting subject.

Bravo, personally, I plan of DA'ing myself eventually to, but I have a plan! I have to wait until I start working full time this summer (right now I'm just a part time teacher at university while finishing my Ph.D) and then kick my roommate out. Hopefully by then I get my privilidiges back (which I lost for being charged as an 'apostate'). Then I can wait until I have a talk and get up on stage and tell everyone about 607 BCE and the UN and say f*** you all I quit
so picture this.... the wts gets sued into oblivion.

i'm sure this will have been discussed before..but i am new here, so i was wondering how many of you when you where active jw's actually beleived you were going to survive armageddon.
i personally being brought up in the 'truth' used to lie in bed frightened of it coming or world events always thinking i was too bad a person to survive, and even as an adult i always felt i was never doing enough or good enough to be 'chosen' for survival when the end came u were always made to feel like you should be doing more as though you could earn your salvation.
i have talked to someone else who i know has left and they felt the same, i was wondering how many of you guys actually beleived you would make it through armageddon
I never felt like I was good enough when I believed everything the FDS (Flacid Degenrate Spies) was telling me. I suffered from depression for years because of it, always believeing that I needed to read all the magazines, all the books, plus study for the meetings, do personal research, personal bible study, prepare for service, go out in service, keep up with work, school and try and have some kind of life.
Now that I'm out I feel like a huge wieght had been lifted off my chest.
i have noticed some who have recently left still hang on to 'unique' language of the society.
how long did it take you stop using the buzz words and things like brother, sister, jah, and many others?
and do you still recognize the word jehovah as a word for god?
The one phrase I still use which drives me crazy is I still refer to the religion as 'the truth' when I know its anything but. Its the one single best peice of brainwashing the GB puts into peoples heads.
