i was talking to a friend yesterday whose sister and brother-in-law have been at bethel for three decades at least, working in important departments that put them in contact with the writing dept., gov.
body, etc.
on a daily basis.. this friend of mine has been a witness for half a century, and has been fading for the past 3-4 years.

watch out for the questions from readers in the may 1st 2007 watchtower.
"when does the calling of christians to a heavenly hope cease?
" it's a good'un.. included are the statements:.
Sorry I can't add an intelligent comment to this wonderful and informative thread, but I must say at least this----
What a bunch of stinking jerk assholes. Loyalty only to themselves.

this is the fun one......... health, dismemberment, death (natural and unnatural) murder and suicide.. well its sunday afternoon, portland oregon, february 18, 2007.........its been 34 years,.......i 'm just drunk enough, excuse me,.....i mean "self medicated"enough (p.s.
juni sweet heart.... i love you), to start writing this chapter.........the people at bethel were killing us spiritually!.......and sometimes they killed us physically too.....i'm not letting myself of the hook...i was there and i was as bad them..............no, i'm sorry i was worst then them......and why?.....because i knew better....those bastards didn't know any better .......we need to send them some love........the thing they can't give us ................we need to give them......... love............. "thats all you need" .
first off....... when you go to bethel, you sign a document stating that if you die while you are at bethel, the society has "the right" to keep your body.........most people, just sign it and forget about it, but don't you think that is just a little strange?..........i did.
My son did 4 years in Bethel. While there he came down with appendicititis. Here he is in New York City where there are hospitals all over the place. Do you know what these loving brothers did? They loaded him into an amblunce and believe it or not in a blizzard took him to little hospital several hours away. By the time they finally operated on him the doctor could not believe that his appendix had not ruptured!!! He stayed like for a day, they drove him back to the city, made him walk to the infirmary and since they didn't have room for him, made him walk to his room and recover there.
It just makes me sick when I think about how uncaring they were. And further to make his feel important they would tell him he could be replaced by a 37 cent stamp.
I wish they would have.

my house has a carport that is about 10' wide or so, just a one car deal.
as you can see in the pics below, the carport has a flat roof - a flat roof that leaks water unfortunately, and has leaked for as long as i've had the house (5 years).
the roof is covered with rubber, but somewhere water gets through.
your opening question re the price to replace is fairly general, no specific dimensions, "about 10 feet" What about length? 25 feet?
A carport is not an expensive or difficult thing to build. If you tore it down, there is a chance you could have it built back for $3-4 thousand, max, depending on who you get and where you live. Check with several local contractors for a free estimate, to fix or replace. You may save a bunch by tearing out the ceiling so they can see what they need to see.
However, if the roof leaks, you could tear out the bottom (ceiling) and start looking at the condition of the lumber and structure. If it leaks all over, tear it all out. If it leaks just in an area or two, then, find the leak, repair it, and install a new ceiling. I would also consider putting a new roof on what you have. Rubber is good, but it should be installed over the edges of the structure so that it can be waterproofed.

i have always been interested in what last names mean and where they come from and if someone famous in the past is related to us because of the same last name.
my last name comes from greek but my family is not greek.
it dates back to the year 700ce and it was around the time in europe when people were starting to get last names - i'm talking about the general people not monarchs.
Jones is my last name,
I have been told that it is a Welsh name, however Welsh does not have a J in the language. It appears that King John and his supporters were run out of England at one time, and went to Wales, and the name Jones was derived from "John's Men" and shortened to Jones.
Don't know if it is true.

i have a friend well call michael whose conscience landed him in trouble with hq.. .
he was a district overseer in the pre 75 era but his conscience would not allow him to .
endorse the unscriptural date setting.
Mia, you asked:
thats a cool story, getting in trouble for no 1975 - my parents always told me that 1975 wasnt ever set in concrete by WTS and that it was people seeing things that weren't there - did the WTS actually print 1975 is the end or not?
The WT is very cagey, but yes they did put that in print, one time that I can quote:
It is in the Life Everlasting in Freedom for the Sons of God, page 30:
"It would NOT be by mere chance or accident but WOULD BE ACCORDING TO THE LOVING PURPOSE OF JEHOVAH GOD FOR THE REIGH OF JESUS CHRIST...TO RUN PARALLEL WITH THE SEVENTH MILLENIUM OF MAN'S EXISTENCE."
Then on the pacing page, 31 and through 35 there is a chart of the "Significant Dates From Man's Creation to 7000 A.M.------------------The last line of the chart being:
1975-------------End of 6th 1,000 year day of man's existence
2975------------End of 7th 1,000 year day of man's existence
That is what they said, and I am writing that right out of the book.

i've just been looking through the latest garbage literature in the above mentioned wt.
both study articles are on obeying the governing body, although the second article is more on obeying the elders.
losing your grip there a little bit fellows?
If the congregation is the body, and Jesus is the HEAD, why have they stolen his headship?
Chow. (ciao)
another memorable meeting with br.
dorkie... .
if you don't know these 2 elders, my previous post explains that superfine is a pioneer elder and "ex" child abuser and br.
What breaks my heart is that I didn't do the same thing.
I let my kids waste 20 more years in it before I got any sense.
Good job.

canada is in the news quite a bit so i thought it would be interesting to show some jw stats for canada.. jehovah's witnesses in canada.

2006 110,298 107,618 0 107,534 1,982 1,325
Statistics
Between 1997 and 2006 24,089 people were baptized. This is roughly 2,408 a year.
2006 saw baptisms fall under 2,000 for the first time.
To detemrine growth, note how JW's in Canada had a 1997 peak of 113,763 publishers.
The 2006 peak was only 110,298 publishers.
There is a net loss of 3,465 publishers but that does not take into account those baptised.
A grand total net loss, inc. baptisms = 3,465 + 24,089 baptisms = 27,554 missing JW's.
1997 113,763 109,880 0 110,235 3,671 1,388
2006 110,298 107,618 0 107,534 1,982 1,325
The number of congregations in Canada during 1997 was 1,388.
In 2006, the number of congregations declined 4.5 % resulting in a decrease of 63.
NOTE: you are showing a net loss in the 8 years under discussion of 27,554 JW's. I don't know what the death rate would be, but the NET loss for those 8 years would be about 25%!! That is a stunningly large number. Especially when the WT figures just 2% or so. Very interesting chart. Thanks
