Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
by scout575 in"the lord says, when israel was a child, i loved him...i drew them to me with affection and love.
i picked them up and held them to my cheek; i bent down and fed them.

"At Best a Morass of Confusion and at Worst Outright Lying and Dishonesty."
by scout575 in"a major turning point took place at work where i met some jehovah's witnesses, and convinced myself that they were wrong, started to get seriously into theology and so forth.
i felt that the church of england was too feeble, and moved on via a roundabout route into a highly structured, independent charismatic church, where i remained for seven lonely and depressing years.
i eventually left the church in disgust at a huge and ugly falling out among the leaders, but i still believed, and went as a visitor to a number of churches for the next ten years or so.".

"In The End I was Depressed Confused and Terribly Disillusioned."
by scout575 in"i was a fully committed evangelical christian for 13 years... i was excited to finally be saved... i was thrilled that i could finally understand and accept the truth... i became a fully devoted follower of jesus...i hit a wall when i began reading the old testament.
there he was again, the cruel, angry, demanding ( my way or the highway ), bloody, murderous god i had always found in the old testament...i totally devoted myself to god and biblical principles.
in the end i was depressed confused and terribly disillusioned.

"The Threat of Bringing Me in Front of the Elders."
by scout575 in"my problem was that unlike the other holy ( marks and spencer/ next-wearing ), humble, young people in the church, i was the daughter of parents who had left the original church commune back in the seventies, before i was born.
they were back in the fellowship, of course ( no one escapes - its like star trek's 'borg'!
), but no longer elders...i met a wonderful man called stuart, but as soon as my parents found out, they threatened me with kicking me out of the house.

"for the indignation of the lord is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter.

"Hypocrisy Was Rampant Among The Congregation."
by scout575 in"my family is the template for your average european catholic family...we had our problems, and without going into too much detail our history is filled with abhorrent instances of violence...most of my earliest memories are ones that will forever bring tears to my eyes.
my mother's insistence that god will help us through it, over and over again never panned out...add to this the fact that the nuns in our school would constantly call me stupid and write off anything i would say in a discussion because it was always wrong...what felt like god's presence was just a mind-trick.
hypocrisy was rampant among the congregation.

"My Mother Coerced My 13 Year Old Daughter to be Baptized."
by scout575 in"my stepfather, a leader in the church youth community, was sexually abusive, and my mother was physically and mentally abusive...paradoxically it was perfectly all right for my mother to forgive her child-molesting husband and remain married to him...my decision to leave the church has caused definite strain on nearly every relationship with my christian family members, though they will never speak of it.
my mother coerced my 13 year old daughter to be baptized recently and that has caused some major problems for us since i had specifically told her she should wait until she had done some more research...its good to read other testimonials to know that i am not alone in this.
