Encinitas Congregation Encinitas CA.
by exwhyzee inanyone from that hall?.
we attended a memorial for a long time friend there this past weekend.
it was my first time in a kingdom hall since memorial 2008. as per usual, the people were lovely but the message had gaps and left me feeling somewhat blank and cold.

life after the wtbts
by Hortensia inyou can't move forward to a new, more interesting, possibly much happier life, if you're still looking behind at the former life.. there is so much obsession on here about what the wtbts is doing, and discussing all the forms of injustice and bullshit in the wtbts, or how to bring down the wtbts.
yes, their doctrines are crazy and they are a cult and cruel to boot.
move on.

These "why don't you people get on with your lives?!" threads pop up here on a predictably regular basis. I always find them a bit presumptuous.

HELP ME COMPILE A LIST OF DISCARDED WORDS AND PHRASES from the WTS
by Terry inin fort worth, texas around 1959. gradually i became aware of the argot.
special, private language).
jw's had these phrases they used over and over again.. upon first hearing, these words and phrases stood out as odd, weird or awkward.. however.

Way, way back (in my dad's time) COs were called "company servants."
Earnest prayers sometimes led to embarrassing syntax and perplexing visuals - "forgive us our falling shorts."

Higher Education... Some ideas for those that think it is too late
by adjusted knowledge inso many witnesses lost the opportunity to pursue higher education in their youths.
perhaps it took decades for many here to leave and now feel it is too late.
degree you will also earn multiple certifications from other agencies:.

....those WHO think it is too late.........
Went to college in my late 30s/early 40s. Spent as much time on math homework as all my other classes put together. Though I didn't finish (too many responsibilities and no support) the LEARNING was invaluable. Helped me to get a job using my brain instead of my back. Best of all, I learned how to THINK.
We autodidacts can be proud, but a little higher education is a great discipline to broaden our horizons. Highly recommended.

What Made You Finally Wake Up?
by Tenacious inhello to all.
i've been on this site for a couple of weeks now posting here and there but have not had the opportunity to read about many of the regular members and what led up to their leaving the wt.. i understand that some of you (i'm part of this club) may not be able to disclose many details and i can appreciate that.. i'd love to hear what was it that finally made you renounce what is and hopefully soon to be "was" the wt.. i truly look forward to having good discussions.. thank you to all for your kind participation.. .

Sail Away,
Thanks for telling us your heartbreaking story. You made some very good points ("Jehovah would have to wipe out my memory of them. If god did that, just who would that be in paradise—").
So glad for you that you are finally free.

Macau, China.
I was at the other (real) Venice last month. It was incredibly beautiful and the gondoliers do dress that way, but I didn't hear any of them singing.

Family Gathering ( or the day also known as Thanksgiving)
by Theredeemer inevery year on a certain thursday in november my family and close witness friends would get together, eat menudo ( hispanic stew) and other foods, watch football and then get dressed to go to the meeting.. sister so and so would bring her famous pie, bro and sister so and so would bring their gross punch and bro and sis so and so would bring mexican sweet bread.
sometimes we would go to "worldy" aunt's and pick up plates of turkey and fixins.. this was every year on a certain date, on a certain thursday in november.. this continued until my mom got alzheimers.
by that time i was married and had my own house.

Yup. We had turkey dinner with all the traditional trimmings on Thanksgiving every year because, "turkeys are on sale and everyone is off work."
My JW aunt started having a "toy party" every year when her kids were young (but old enough to feel the sting of being left out of Christmas). I believe she had it in summer. Not sure the kids were mollified, but I'm sure they were confused.

If You Don't Believe In God Anymore, Do You Still Say God Bless You or Thank God, etc.?

It would be like any expression that is not meant to be taken as literal.
"Jesus H. Christ!" (Whereas his actual middle initial is K. For Kevin.)
