1914 ,the Generation that got tossed in the Garbage Can

as many of you know i`ve just got back to the board in the last little while..what did i learn yesterday?..the generation of 1914 means nothing..nothing!

!..back in the day,you could have been disfellowshipped for such a remark..disfellowshipped!

The generation change was the last straw for me. I wrote a Letter to the Society which was never answered. My JW parents read the letter and I think it got them pretty upset. Here is a link to the letter.

Pretty amazing. Jeffery's letter could not be more clear and to the point.

It would seem clear that the WTS's expectation of the rank and file is a tacit understanding and agreement that whatever the Watchtower comes up with the R & F will swallow whole with no questions asked and damn well like it. The 1914 flip-flop is particularly egregious to me; as an old-timer, 1914 was always portrayed as the cornerstone upon which so many flimsy JW premises were built. To toss out 1914 so cavalierly is a gigantic FU to millions of loyal witnesses. Bastards.

I am impressed by the variety and obvious affection of your many friends. You managed to inspire responses that were not just 'lip service' but thoughtful, meaningful answers. Arrggghhhh! This stuff is so painful!

"screwed, the undeclared war against the middle class" by thom hartmann.

i am finding it to be very insightful into why jobs are being sent overseas.

Generation change?

hello all.. forgive my ignorance, but what exactly was the generation change, and what are the implications for jw doctrine?.

although i rarely missed a meeting until a couple of years ago, this either went over my head or i wasn't listening (most likley).. i'm not the sharpest tool in the box so please keep it simple!

I don't see anyone taking the slightest offense at the way you presented your opinion. Some of us just disagree with giving credit to the WTS that they don't deserve. IMHO, the WTS is first and foremost, totally self-serving. It is their single most identifying trait. When they do something expedient toward their own self-serving purpose that results in a secondary positive, I am reminded of the following saying:

"Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhile."

The WTS reflects the times insofar as racism. Racism is bad business and unpopular in our politically correct/affirmative action world. Most organizations that rely on the goodwill of the public have policies against discrimination firmly in place and practiced. Ask the Denny's resaturant chain that was sued a few years ago for seeming to give blacks less than equal service. The WTS knows which side of the bread their butter is on. But check out Gilberto's excellent research on how it used to be.

One more thought - racial harmony at conventions is a very small and unrepresentative sampling from which to draw any sweeping conclusions.

The other book "Catcher in the Rye" does not seem interesting at all. I've read 10 pages, and I find it rather disgusting. Has anybody else read it? Does it get better?

Prolly not if you don't like the first ten pages. I've read it three times. It is the quintessential 'coming of age' story - a true classic. But obviously it is not for everyone!

I am glad that I had the opportunity to meet people
of different cultures and backgrounds while I was with the organization. If I had to carry
something good out of the organization?it was the breaking down of racial barriers.

Here again is the assumption that you would not have experienced this if you were not inside the organization.

The WTS narrows one's experience of the world, not expands it.

How do you know you might not have seen a 'breaking down of racial barriers' within a different church, or at college or university?

Also, what impact would there be on those who stay in? How would they be influenced by realizing that many of those around them no longer believed?

I cannot imagine AK-Jeff taking any guff from these Bozos so no worries on that score. Would love to be a fly on the wall, but look forward to the play-by-play on October 9.
