often i hear jws claim that people leave the borg because they cannot follow the rules, implying that anyone who leaves lacks character, self control, and/or moral values.. often i hear jwd posters--me included--say the myriad of rules in the borg is one of (not the only) reason they would not follow the org.

Romans 14 talks about the tyranny of arbitrary 'rules' governing eating, drinking and observation of days, whereas the Kingdom of God is about peace, righteousness and joy:

Don't let him who eats despise him who doesn't eat. Don't let him who doesn't eat judge him who eats, for God has accepted him.4 Who are you who judge another's servant? To his own lord he stands or falls. Yes, he will be made to stand, for God has power to make him stand.5 One man esteems one day as more important. Another esteems every day alike. Are "Apostates" jumping the gun with their info on the WT to make a case?

i take some of the things apostates say with a "grain of salt" because many times i think they embellish the truth to make the wt look bad to make their case.

for example i have for years heard that the wt uses "satanic" images in their artwork but i have yet to see any proof of these accusations.

i have heard that jw's no longer practice "disfellowshipping" but my teenage niece was recently "disfellowshipped".

The core issues that most apostates raise about the WTS - disfellowshipping, blood, UN, child molest, academic dishonesty, new light/shifting doctrines, their history, etc. - are valid concerns and when examined intellectually and scientifically, completely and inarguably discredit the WTS. That is all that matters. These are the issues that have compelled thousands of loyal, sincere JWs to leave the ranks, brokenhearted and disillusioned, to look elsewhere for the "truth." The "lunatic fringe" is always there, but their presence does not in any way undermine the fact that the fundamental doctrines, beliefs and practices of the WTS simply do not stand up to honest scrutiny.

If you will check out some of the threads on this site that discuss subliminal artwork, you will find that the majority of posters on here attribute zero validity to these claims. There is a tiny minority of people who like to hold illustrations up to a mirror to create unintended images. Again, as Alan pointed out, were are all individuals with a single common denominator - we all left the WTS.

Wikipedia being abused by Jehovahs Witnesses

i had a look at the wikipedia entry for jehovahs witnesses yesterday and noticed that it wasn't as comprehensive as it once was.. most links to non-pro-jw sites have gone as is anything truly critical or exposing of their beliefs and practices.. last night i added a link to this site to the "other sources" section.

this morning it is gone.. i wonder whether this is some private zealot who has decided to do it or an organised campaign?.

Wikipedia is too important as an avenue for disseminating the truth about the WTS to dismiss and admit defeat.

What affect did the Watchtower have on your emotional health?

did the artists rendition of paradise earth pull you into the "truth"?

I feel the best way is to talk to people here; encouraging new ones to stay around and express their concerns and questions and to feel free to talk with people who do care and will listen and who will have empathy because they shared the same experience or know of someone who did.

Yes, Juni, this is how the WTS will ultimately unravel I'm sure. In the meantime, the heartbreaking waste of lives is sometimes overwhelming.

Five years posting!

it doesn't seem two minutes since i first joined this site.

on the other hand it feels like i've been here forever, accumulating about 15,000 posts in the process.. it was a wednesday (12 september 2001) on a small island off the west coast of scotland .

in recent months i had experienced a spiritual awakening of such proportions that it caused me to question one after another of the beliefs that i'd been raised with as a jw.
