How can there be blood in marshmallows.
Marshmallows are made of egg whites. Occasionally there is a speck of blood in eggs. By this reasoning JWs shouldn't eat anything with eggs as an ingredient.
That's going a bit too far, methinks.
did something say something like that po who said`cats represent the beast' so you shouldn't stroke them'

hi guys, im new here and im christian (though trying to read the bible for what it is instead of looking to preacher all the time.
) anyway, i have a dilemma.
im 26 right now.
cloud,
I agree with most of the advice given here (except sixofnine!) But I'd like to offer up a little amateur psychology for your consideration, at no charge. I would suggest that rather than a strictly spiritual dilemma, you have a neurosis* that is blocking your ability to get on with life.
Porn can be or become a substitute for developing real relationships with real people. You have a lot of shame about viewing it (can’t even spell the word out).
Is it possible that you are obsessing over this girl from your past in order to 'stay stuck'? Staying stuck can serve a purpose. To justify not developing real relationships in the present, (and view porn as a substitute) you have
1. the old hurtful experience to obsess about and hold you back
2. and the 'ghetto' superficial girls you see around you now
How convenient! Our neurotic subconscious sets these things up for us in order to allow us to perpetuate what we want to believe about ourselves. Awareness of this can be the beginning of changing it.
* In modern psychology, the term neurosis , also known as psychoneurosis or neurotic disorder , is a general term that refers to any mental imbalance that causes distress, but (unlike a psychosis or personality disorder) does not prevent rational thought or an individual's ability to function in daily life. As an illness, it represents a psychiatric condition in which emotional distress or unconscious conflict is expressed through various physical, physiological, and mental disturbances. It has perhaps been most simply defined as a "poor ability to adapt to one's environment, an inability to change one's life patterns, and the inability to develop a richer, more complex, more satisfying personality."
The term connotes an actual disorder or disease, but under its general definition, neurosis is a normal human experience, part of the human condition. Most people are affected by neurosis in some form. A psychological problem develops when neuroses begin to interfere with, but not significantly impair, normal functioning, and thus cause the individual anxiety. Frequently, the coping mechanisms enlisted to help "ward off" the anxiety only exacerbate the situation, causing more distress. It has even been defined in terms of this coping strategy, as a "symbolic behavior in defense against excessive psychobiologic pain...," which, "...is self-perpetuating because symbolic satisfactions cannot fulfill real needs."
According to psychoanalytic theory, neuroses may be rooted in ego defense mechanisms, but the two concepts are not synonymous. Defense mechanisms are a normal way of developing and maintaining a consistent sense of self (an ego) while only those thought and behavior patterns that produce difficulties in living should be termed neuroses.

"Then why do we have to put in 10 hours per month in FS to keep from getting yelled at?"
who here had ever heard of this so-called 'doctrine' of "theocratic warfare" when you were a jehovah's witness?
who has not heard of the so-called doctrine now that you are an apostate?
so why have witnesses never heard of 'doctrine', yet apostates seem to promote it as the last word on witness standards of honesty, integrity and decency?

Just for the record:
I was raised as a JW and I certainly remember theocratic warfare being advocated. It was actually kind of exciting - the intrigue! Like being a spy or a political prisoner! It certainly caputred the imagination of the young and impressionable (and bored).
Side story: James Bond was making a huge splash (60's) and I remember one young brother named Lonnie K. on whom I had a crush. In a discussion of theocratic warfare, he said he wanted to be known as "Lon - James Lon." Hot stuff!
Side, side story: My JW dad was f*****g livid about my crush because - (drumroll) Lonnie was Jewish!
You can't make this stuff up!
GAME, SET and MATCH.
with the hotting up of the wt articles about not listening to apostate lies.
i was wondering, when you where in the borg did you ever wonder what these "lies" were.. its a strange thing but i never did.
i never even knew what they said about us and i didnt care.. in other walks of life, if you hear that someone has been lied about, you usually want to know what it is (well i do cos im nosey) but in all my 20 years i didnt wonder about what the apostates were saying.
This is a good question. Apparently the WTS forgot to define terms, as usual, but considering that the audience they write for is not allowed to ask for clairifcation, why bother?
Apostates are, in this order,:
Given the above premises, do people lie? Absolutely. Do 2, 3, and 4 lie? Of course.
I know of no single voice representing ex-JW apostates as a group. We do not have a GB or FDS doing our thinking for us.
Obviously, however, the WTS knows this, but that is not what they are worried about. They are actually worried about apostates who tell the TRUTH about the WTS.
while traveling down thru new england, i happened across one of the new district convention "invites".. how dumb can the watchtower society get?
for the moment, let's ignore the fact that they expect people to drop everything.
within a radius of one, two or even three hundred miles and attend an inner city convention over a weekend.
The most fun will be the little games we do, like who can place the most, who wants to take to the motorcyclists, ooh ooh cute guy is mine!, and that kinda stuff... lol.
darcy: Thank you for confirming my take on your sincerity, previously expressed elsewhere.
One proviso: If you are under 25 - knock yourself out. If you are over 30: you need 1) to grow up, and 2) a good kick up the arse.

Let's just declare victory and be done with it.
Apostates: 144

i got jolted into a forgotten realization by arthur's world events and time of the end thread.. my personal "truth" was and is - i never even really believed in it!!!.
and, yet allowed myself to get brainwashed into following around like a robot and talking to other people like i did...unbelievable now that i think about it.
but in the back of my mind (what little part was still working on its own) i was just thinking - yea sure.
I've always said that if Armageddon actually happened, some of the most surprised people would be JW's. Including me.
