just wanted to ask a few questions about free thinkers.

how many of you feel you are truly a free thinker, not involved in some sort of group that has capes and drapes, or a "label"?

Sheeple? Hmmmmm.........are you dissing the rest of us? If so, I, for one, suggest that you take a different tack than insulting PEOPLE who are, in many (most) instances, your intellectual superiors.

I notice, too, butters, that though I was inclined to be your cheerleader in the beginning (as I tend to be with newcomers), that your abrasive, hostile and condescending attitude has given me pause. Please get that you are a small, greasy pat to be spread on a roll, not the Supreme Being and we all will get along fine.

P.S. Don't smoke and post.

LOL! Yes, most of us have been through this BS (the pseudo eulogies) and took it. It is the final sad comment on a life devoted to the ruling class at Brooklyn, most of whom are not even really known to us.

I hate it when they make me cry!!

i thought i was pretty much immune to any jws being able to tug at my heartstrings anymore.. mr scully and i were out shopping this morning, when someone called my name and then grabbed me and gave me a big hug.

i hadn't seen her in over 15 years.

back then, she was a teenager and i was about 10 years older than her... but we hit it off really well and mr scully and i became really good friends with her and her parents.

Oy, Scully! I know just the type of people you mean. It breaks your heart that they have been so loyal (though misguided) so sincere, (though misled) and so sweet (though manipulated). And they reap the same human frailties, and a vulnerable to the same ills as the less loyal, insincere and unkind of this world. And over-riding it -all is - what a waste of human effort and hope and goodwill! How mis-used and un-appreciated are these good folk. And how we miss them. So sad.

The Awake
Personally, I enjoyed the short stories in the Awake magazine.
This included the science articles, the human interest stories
and the watching the world articles.It was a clean style and
format and it was appealing to read.

However, the sources where the magazines received its info-
rmation still raises questions regarding credibility.
You are laboring to say something positive and diplomatic about these magazines which are, by any objective standards, lame excuses for writing, editing, journalism and information. Why?

I agree with Katie - if you want in-depth information about a topic, why waste time reading an Awake? With the exhaustive information at one's fingertips through the Internet, the Awake is a huge waste of cheap paper, not to mention manpower, gasoline and shoeleather expended to carry it to householders who clearly don't want it.

And, of course, all the information is biased as hell in the WTS "literature." Now that most of us here are released from the brainwashing, we can be quite objective about the value of the WTS drivel.

Let's just get something straight about 1975.

nobody ever said that the end was coming in 1975.. all the hype about this date that has continued all the way down through today came from a talk in the early 70's by fred franz.

in this talk, franz pointed out the significance of the 7 creative days and how they correspond with 1,000-year time intervals.. he then said, "could the end come in 1975?

there's so much wrong with jehovah's witnesses from their rigid legalism to their faux love, but let's call a spade a spade about the 1975 thing..

I'm late to this party and the question has been adequately answered. But of course that's never stopped me before!

Two points:

You will not find a clear statement in the WTS publications saying "If you don't convert and become a Jehovah's Witnesses PDQ, you will be killed by the Great God of Love, Jehovah." But any JW knows that that is the clear message from the WTS - no question. The statements that could be collected from the publications supporting this dogma would fill a hundred pages on this forum. The 1975 debacle is no different.
Even more telling - knowing that 1975 was ballyhooed in the congos (duh!) WHY DID THE WTS WAIT UNTIL AFTER 1975 TO ANSWER TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE? If there were a rumor circulating among the R& F that celebrating Christmas is now OK, do you think the Society would have waited nearly ten years to clear it up?

?..he knew that was gonna make some noise..did he think that was funny?..god made beautifully fragrant flowers,you think he could have done a better job with the fart.but no,that had to be funny too..first comes a noise that would raise the dead,then an odor that would put them back in the grave..none of it makes any sense,unless your a comedian...outlaw

The plot line to almost all movies that come out today.

ever notice how much every movie follows the same plot line and pattern, so much so, that you can set your watch by it.

here it is .... the introduction - the short moment in the beginning of the movie that has you listening to characters explain themselves and their past.. the point - the short moment that follows the introduction that explain what this movie will be about, and offer at least a couple subtle points that will be major in the end.

(example, a small character mentioning something they know, someone they know or a history they share).

Have you ever read any Shakespeare? He pretty much improved on the 'formula' used even by the Bible - and it has worked these many centuries. Stories that don't have conflict and resolution are............usually boring.

one of my jw friends who still talks to me said this was the last tract that will be released from the faithfull discreet slave and that after the tract has been released there will be some major changes and for everyone not to be affraid.

does anyone have an idea of what this might be?

Esposito: From this day on, the official language of San Marcos will be Swedish. Silence! In addition to that, all citizens will be required to change their underwear every half-hour. Underwear will be worn on the outside so we can check. Furthermore, all children under 16 years old are now...16 years old!

Ahhhh, thank you Running Man! Once again solid research trumps faulty memory. I've only seen that movie about twelve times, but its been awhile.

Anyone remember Woody Allen's movie, Bananas? After the rebels overthrew the existing government, they made new rules. Everyone had to change their underwear three times a day and wear it on the outside, "so we can check!" And the official language in San Marcos "will now be Swedish!"

Don't know what made me think of that.....................
