Spectrum, I remember many friends of mine saying the same thing. It seems it was done for legal reasons. This way you have no leg to stand on if and when you try to due anything contrary to the Society. You are now bound by contract to their rules and regulations. Sneeky devils.

Another stupid blunder by the WTBTS.
by gumby inmany times the wtbts are pretty good at changing poilicy without looking to obvious to the r&f as being sneaky and having a motive behind their changes.
normally they can even justify their change as scriptural to the unwary.
however, when they changed the baptismal questions, it was more obvious that there was "motive" behind the change and some exited the group because of the change.. this thread is for those who have never heard of the change before and were not aware of the current stance the wtbts has taken regarding baptism.

Just want to gain insight on the overall attitude of most on here.

leafing through posts, taking the time out to read individuals' profiles, their topics.
i like to gain insight, get perspective on what it is like to be "on the other side" i guess you can say.

Stilla, I too have been reading many posts and profiles. I am more angry than anything else. I guess what really gets my blood boiling is the many coverups. I mean changing the history from what is printed in the monthly magazines to what is printed in the bound volumes and on their cdroms. Someone once said to control the past you control the present. I cannot with a clean conscience belong to an org that does this. By the way am I NORMAL for feeling so dam angry all the time?

What was "it" that opened your eyes?
by jiggulz inlike so many people, i'm (very carefully)trying to convey the obvious "truth" about the wtb&ts to some of the members of my family.
is there any key point that "stands out" in your memory as pivotal in the opening of your eyes?
or any particular point that may have opened the eyes of your loved ones?

For me it started with wondering why I couldn't have a beard and still be used in the congo. This led me to the internet for answers. Boy did I find them! ?This in turn led me to read the Ray Franz books. The rest as they say is History. The Mexico/Malawi issue really DID me in though I must say. Welcome to the board. Jim

144000....DO THE NUMBERS ADD UP?????
by chuckyy inas jws we were told only 144000 go to heaven from the time of christ right up to this day.it dawned on me before i was baptized one day during my study that the numbers dont add up.
the brother was telling me that the roman persecutions of the christians were killing thousands every week.
initially, within weeks of jesus death, there were 5000 christians at least in jerusalem.

Isn't there a rule in that "Special Rules and Regulations" book the Unnointed have at Headquaters. You know the one Ray Franz says they have, something like "The 144,000 legalisms" Are not they guily of rule 143,010 " THOU SHALL NOT SUE THE TOWER"

I agree Gerald, They will probably settle out of court to once again try to swept this under the rug. Then years later "new light" will appear and the whole thing will disappear. Hope they lose their ass-sets.

Baptism, in regard to leaving the J/W...
by Riverwatcher inthis time, i've got a question about baptism and how being baptized, or not, affects a person who gets df'd from the j/w's.
from the reading i've done on this board, the question of whether or not a person has been baptised seems to come up fairly often.
since i don't really have a terribly clear understanding of j/w doctrine yet (will i ever???

I guess it depends on the congo your in. My brother-in-law was never baptized, but still got shunned after they made an annoucement at the hall he was attending. Ray Franz says in his books that there is barely any difference between disfellowshiped/disassociatesd. Usually same results.

Great letter, I am in the process myself of organizing research I have done for the past year and a half. Boy I can relate SO MUCH to you. I as well have so much paperwork I have dld and books I have read, that I too am trying to shorting things up. Its funny we both took the same path. I initially had questions about beards of all things. This led me to where I am today. I too started reading the NT starting with John, the Matthew to Rev. Funny, Russell said we could't understand the bible on our own.Yet I came to many of the same conclusions you did. Seriously, Must be the Holy Spirit that I asked God to help me find truth as you did ( Tear coming to my eye ). Reading your letter I though I was reading my life story for the past year as many here can probably put themselves in your place as well. Just change the names around and any of us can be there. Some day I too hope to post my letter unless they can me first. Take care, IronClaw
