I think the speaker that gave the illustration only uses 10 percent of his brain and that same brain devised the lion theory.

illustrations that where false
by Grouper inhello everyone i am a new poster but have been lurking for quite some time, i wanted to know if any of you ever heard the following illustrations at meetings.
1) when i was a kid going to spanish meetings here in so cal i often heard speakers talk about satan being like a roaring lion ready to devour all humanity, then i would here the illustration of how lions hunt by roaring towards the ground this way the roar went everywhere and the prey would be easy pickings.
problem with this is once i studied in the fourth grade how lions hunt, found out lionesses are the ones that hunt and rely solely on stealth, ambush, the element of surprise to bring down their prey.

How often do you bathe?
by BlessedStar ini heard something and i would like to know the truth so i'll ask this question..... how often do you bathe and change your underwear?.
i heard that people from certain places don't bathe for days and only change their underwear when it gets really deteriorated.. .

Here in the US we're only a generation or two removed from those that bathed once a week or once every few days. My great grandparents and my grandparents grew up in that
generation of once a week bathing and sharing the same bathwater.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe certain races, such as asians sweat much less than others and can get away with less bathing.
However you won't find me bathing any less than once a day.

How do they get people to believe this one?
by A Paduan in"in 1914 jesus came to earth, invisibly, and invisibly looked around at the various religions and chose the jehovah witness group because they were the good and best ones who were believing him correctly"
i get it about subtle doctrinal things and swaying people with this and that

I recall during a bookstudy back in the 80s,, my grandfather made the comment that prior to 1914 the world was peaceful and ever since it has been completely different.
He was quoting a historian that the watchtower corp had also quoted.
At the time of that comment I was pretty young, so I bought it.
After reading some history I realized what a farce that is. Mankind has always been violent regardless of the era.
As previously posted I do think WWI was enough of an event for witness to believe that the 1914 date was correct.

Witness Paranoia, and former Witness Paranoia
by free2beme inwhen i was a witness, i once had a elder tell me that he was positive the fbi was tracking witness activity.
even saying that he would not fill out anything that stated his religion on official, or even unofficial documents that were not from the society, as he felt this was a tool to track witnesses.
i remember once in a talk, it was mentioned that witnesses are not free from government tracking and that we should expect this.

I'm a first born,, my birthday is in early 1975. I often wonder if my parents had me with the idea of raising me in 'the new system'. They probably thought they could have a child
and not have to raise me in this 'old system'. One of these days I'm going to ask my parents about the 1975 subject.

Awake = College Education, % of brain usage, where are these?
by drew sagan ini've heard that this is somewhere in the magazines, but i have no clue where.
also, does anybody know where (or even if) the watchtower ever fed off the idea that we only use a fraction of our brains, an idea that has proven to be false?
i heard so many people talk about this in discussion, but have been unable to locate it in a publication.

The whole JW concept of anti-education, pro-mindless obedience reminds me of a Malcolm in the Middle episode. In this episode Reese shuts off his brain and
joins the army, becoming an exceptional soldier.
I often think that I had shut off my brain when I was a strong, spiritual jw.
Reese finally realized that following orders mindlessly wasn't working and turned
his brain back on. I'm thankful that I turned my brain back on as well.

How Would You Classify Your JW Family?
by minimus inare they liberal minded?
strict diehards?
nutty?

All of the above. As I have about 100 family members that are witnesses, therefore I have a nice mix of nuts, flakes, diehards, liberals and faders.
Of my immediate family,, my mom is diehard, brother is diehard, sister is 'weak', dad is inactive, and myself a fader, though I've done it so quietly that everyone thinks
it's status quo for me.

Are you tempted to celebrate V-Day with your DUB mate?
by stillAwitness invalentine's day is tuesday and i was just wondering; for those who still have mates in dub land...is it tempting to maybe buy them flowers or insist on a dinner date on such a lovey-dovey day?
i saw some yellow roses on sale today at walmart and was tempted to get some for my mom then i realized i'd better wait till after the 14th.

Though I was raised by my family that is 5 generations deep in this crap, I blame myself for taking the 'plunge' It seemed wrong at the time, but I went ahead and did it.
So I blame myself.
