Believe me I lived it and we never got the date on our own. Everybody was talking about it because it was taught to us by the watchtower. they can deny it all they want, but it definitely was the society that started all the hype. They are evil liars.

Just how hyped was 1975?
by MuadDib inaight.
i was raised in the jws, but i'm still young (22) and all my life what i've been told is that the society never really promoted 1975 as the definitive year for the coming of armageddon.
what i was always told is that some overzealous witnesses took certain things out of context and developed a very extreme reaction - ie selling their houses, quitting their jobs, dropping out of school, etc.

Is there a God/supreme being/ or what?!
by DigitalFokus inok, so i was raised luthren, my dad was cathlioc and then i went dub for 5 years and since have been completely turned off religion.
the dub experience combined with world events and my personal ones have pretty much pushed all thoughts of a "almighty" out of my mind.
of course there are times that i think of religion or get into a "2am religion talk" and i wonder wtf is really going on.

Did the elders contact you 1 year after being DF'd?
by JH in.
elders are supposed to meet everyone once a year, either df'd ones or inactive, just to try to bring them back.. in my case, they usually try right before the memorial.
how about you?.

I was df'd 25 years ago (not apostate) and I have never seen one of them. They avoid me like the plague.

Baptism Questions
by Honesty injust how scriptural is the watchtower when it comes to asking questions for baptism?
as you read the following account ask yourself why does the society ask the questions instead of the candidates?
could it all be about control and enslavement?

hampsterbait you make a great point about denying the partaking of the emblems.

The need for educated proffesonals - more WT hypocrisy?
by jambon1 inone thing that always annoyed me when i was in the org was the policy on education.
i personaly am not college educated, i was`nt raised as a jw.
however, i have always appreciated the services provided by those who have had a college/university education.

dozy: many of these proffesional people already had their careers before becoming dubs, very few receive them after.
