Really, Did you watch the Champions league final? The biggest club match in the world. 11 English players in that game I think.
LOL! 11 English players ! 15 years ago, in a similar match, there would have been 20 English players. I rest my case.
Yes, I watched the game a couple of times. Good game but shame about the pitch.

by digderidoo inwell i said i wouldn't watch the game but i changed my mind.. ok it was only a friendly, but i have come here to gloat our victory.

Yep, U.S.A. were dull, mostly MLS players as far as I could see. BUT, England could only pop in 2 goals !?
For all the ball speed that Beckham, Lampard, Rooney and Cole showed, I think they showed their inability to finish chances is what prevented them from making the Euros this year.
The last few years have shown the gap between English football and most of Europe. The big clubs are full of non English players. That is not good for youth development methinks. -

A Piece of News
by winnower inthere are some little heel nippers on this board who have mocked, scoffed, and twisted my words.
that is to be expected, i suppose.
a new record every day or two!

Winnower, with respect, you have the same fault that God himself has; The inability to make a clear and understandable statement that ALL the people of the world can understand.
God and his cryptic letter, the Bible, have confused people for over two thousand years.
How about you come up with times and dates.
Excuse me while I get back to living -

How do you tell somebody that they do something that is socially awkward...
by DanTheMan in...and annoying?
my sister, who i am close with, has a tendency to talk and laugh at very high, at times even piercing volumes when she is in social situations where there is more than say, four or five people present.
it's like, her volume increases exponentially with every person that you add to the mix.

Dan, this probably wont be helpful but it's just my thought. BTW, I've got a wife and kids that can be what I call 'socially naive'.
I think this lack of awareness comes from being protected throughout formative years from name calling and bullying.
Kids are usually pretty good at hammering someone whose laugh, speech, looks differ markedly from others. If these kids have really neat friends who never leg-pull or tease them about some socially annoying behaviour, then these kids grow up blissfully unaware of how annoying it can be to others not so kindly disposed.
In my experience, it seems to be mostly women who fall into this socially naive category because of the feminine culture of nurture and protection and the dis-inclination to tell their friends 'how it is'.
Unlike men who can be blunt with friends and still stay mates.
I don't know how you can tell a woman and not have her hate you for the rest of your life ! LOL -

JWs at the door
by HB inyesterday, my 23 year old son mark was the only one in our house and was just drying off after a shower when the front doorbell rang.
he was expecting a friend to arrive, so he pulled on a pair of underpants and went to open the door and let his friend in, only to find two sweet-looking, demurely dressed middle aged jw ladies on the doorstep holding magazines.
mark was not particularly embarrassed, but the ladies were visibly taken aback by his appearance and were speechless for a couple of seconds.

If you have any further advice on how to talk effectively to JWs at the door-step, I would be grateful to hear it.
I was just thinking of what the one thing that used to throw me when I went door to door.
People who listened politely to what I had to say and then quietly explained that what I said made no sense to them. These people would question the logic of what I had to say and made me realise that I had never thought rationally what I was believing. I was a well trained parrot !
I could cope with people being angry, rude, argumentative or disinterested but I didn't know what to do when I couldn't get a 'nice' person to 'get it'. I used to think, 'What's wrong with me ?" -

1. Is it likely that the JW ladies would take Mark's off the cuff statement of "maybe another time" as literal and actually come back in the near future, or would they take it as a polite brush off? (Many English are often too polite; we use euphemisms instead of saying what we mean, so I thought these ladies might regularly be used to hearing "another time" at lots of doors and not take it literally). Both are possibilities. But most Witnesses are as lazy at returning to interested people as they are at researching what they believe. You have a 20% chance of another visit.
2. If they do take it literally, would it be likely to be the same two ladies who come back, or do they give the addresses of potentially interested householders to their team leader who then decides who will do a return visit? No, it will probably be them.
3. If there is to be a return visit, is it likely to be the same day of the week as the first visit (Thursday in this case)? It might be if that is the day they like going out. Or it could be on the weekend
4. Do they have a set amount of time that they spend at each house or will they continue talking for as long as I seem 'interested'? They will talk for hours if you let them unless; 1. They're with a group that has to get somewhere. 2. It's after lunchtime.
5. If I ask a question they cannot answer, would that probably make them leave? No. They'll try and jump to another subject that they feel comfortable with. If you insist on getting them to answer they will say they'll do some research and get back to you. You then have a 50% chance of them returning with a 'Pioneer sister' or an 'Elder' who will try again with you.
6. Is it better to invite them in or keep them on the doorstep? Doesn't matter. How long do you want to stand for?
Hope that helps HB. And good luck.

A Way To Get Our Boys Out Of Iraq.....Shoot The Quran Full Of Bullet Holes
by BlackPearl inthe guy was sent out of iraq for shooting at the quran,....good idea!
"the u.s. military said sunday that it had disciplined the sniper and removed him from iraq after he was found to have used islam's holy book for target practice may 9 in a predominantly sunni area west of baghdad.
the book was found two days later by iraqis on a firing range in radwaniyah with 14 bullet holes in it and graffiti written on its pages, tribal leaders said.".

The Base Chaplain said he could "shoot the Qu'ran full of holes", but he only meant metaphorically.
