i am just curious, maybe this topic has gotten covered before but when i was at bethel the policy was that nobody could have a child there, if you had children you had to leave?
so how was governing body member albert d. schroeder able to bypass those rules and raise his son judah there at bethel, judah was there when i was there and worked as a waiter and seemed like a nice kid but why the exception, don't bethel rules apply to everybody?
this is the only case i know of at any of the societies headquarters where someone was allowed to raise their child there and didn't have to leave.
I posted this before on an experience thread about going to Cong. Servant school in Pittsburgh, PA. They had Schroeder Sr. there as the instructor with the boy (about 10 or so in 1970) and his mom. They were given an apartment and car. The official line was that they had to do the school there because of lack of room in Bethel itself. Don't know exactly how long they were kept in PA, but I think several years.
Speculation was, of course, that since having a child at Bethel was not allowed except in this one case (at the time) - that the arrangement was made to keep the family sort of "out of sight, out of mind" for a while from the regular Bethelites.

I had to draw up the plans for the KH which is (I think still there) in Yukon, OK because we did not want to pay for an architect. The other elders made suggestions as we went along - and one recurrent theme was to deliberately NOT make it look anything like a church. The window issue came up and the general thoughts were that it should not have them because the bretheren could not be trusted to pay attention to the platform if they could look out the window...
We had another truly hilarious incident with another KH in SW Okla City - one of the brothers had a brand new router and so he routed YHWH from a stencil into the woodwork around the stage. This was so much fun to do that he went completely nuts with it, making other hebrew letters and covered almost every bit of trimwork in the whole hall with totally meaningless hebrew symbols...I can still remember how pissed off Marion Dunlap was when he saw this little bit of handiwork. But, we could hardly retrim the place -

i recently read the elder's manual, from the rexamine.org website.. there is an interesting article on how elder's train ministerial servants to "greet" people at the doors.
they are told to be friendly to the those in attendance and to arrive early and stay late to associate with the friends.. in other words, it would seem that the friendliness shown by elders and servants at the halls is more of a duty than a desire to get to know the brothers and sisters.. many times, elders and servants have been enthusiastic to me in their greetings only, but rarely stop to engage in conversation.
they are not interested in people, only an outward appearance of friendliness, which bolsters the image of the org as having genuine love..

Another gagging travesty - we used to be allowed to "count time" for giving the hour talk, because this was called the "public talk" and it was for the vast numbers of the outside public who wanted to attend.
No such luck for doing the WT study or service meeting, etc. week after week. Those were just for dubs, I guess.
The Mormon elder's underwear would be more holy than the Witnesses. They have several wives each to sew them up...
i have been considering my options lately.
i feel like i need to talk to my chilren about my true feelings about being , or in this case not being a jw any longer.
my kids are all going to be home together, the first time in over two years, this next month .
This has seemed to be a week where many have made the decision.
I personally do not hold with the idea that one can just "fade" forever out of some so-called "good for the family", etc. IMHO, if you cannot take care of number one and make good decisions for yourself, you are just enabling more of the same old JW bs. And not helping them either.
But, some take longer than others.
My sincere admiration to those who have made their choice in the last few days.
