"In the eyes of the publishers they will have been demoted no matter how much the Society tells them and the flock that it is all for Big Jah."
I have to disagree. The majority of the Bethelites that will be leaving are middle-weights and as such have about 8-15 years of Bethel experience. Average jw idealists will be starstruck with these former Bethelites in their midst.

Did you know any elders who weren't married?
by JH in.
all the elders i knew were married, wonder if power in the congregation attracts women.....

I've seen PLENTY of single elders. Believe me, they are not uncommon especially in more urban cities, economically vibrant areas, and especially Bethel.

WHAT IS GOD DOING
by jambon ini am a m/s in a cong but i have been in the truth 10 years and believed it for only 3. i have so many issues but mainly;.
i just dont believe that jehovahs way of handling the `issue` is the best way, which means i dont believe in him or love him any more.
i recently had kids and i cant face any harm coming there way - like most, i would kill for them if anyone posed a harm, so what is jehovah doing??

Jambon, welcome to the forum. Take it easy, don't rush anything. I too am a ministerial servant and have a family. Everyone else in my life are very active jw's and none of them know of my weak faith except my wife. Sometimes it's really hard - I think about it all the time - but I just try to remmber that Time will solve many things and settle matters without me worrying overmuch. Stick around, these forums are very open and there are a lot of helpful, loving people here who have been through what we have. It gets easier... I can sense myself finding my own answers to a lot of my questions. I think that's a big key - not looking beyond ourselves for life's answers.

"i was just wondering,,will those who are being sent back to the field:) have to fend for themselves like a reg publisher...ie get a job, pay rent, get a 4 door car, etc?"
It depends on what their status is. If they are sent out as "special pioneers" than they get a small monthly stipend of like a few hundred bucks or something. But they get nothing if they are a substitute CO, or regular pioneer. Of course, if they are sent to a foriegn Bethel, their benefits and status remain the same as "special full-time vollunteers." -

Fact: ones being sent home are going to consist primarily of "middle-weights."
Speculation: It is my feeling that most of those being sent home are medical high-risk types, such as anyone with a history of major illness, diabetes, etc. During your orientation as a new Bethelite, you are instructed to write down your entire medical history and that of your family. So they have all this on file including anything that might give you a reason to sue if something goes wrong and they might want to send you home. I think this whole thing is just designed to sift out all the middle-weights and reduce Bethel to two classes: the grunts, newboys; and the heavies, fat cats, sitting back in their leather chair, sipping on their carefully-hidden scotch from their mahoganny desk. -

"I know this is completely tangential, but I was wondering Randy or anyone who might know, has there ever been any inkling of a thought about unionizing the Bethelites?"
Any such movement would be inseperably synonomous with apostacy. I don't see how it could ever gain steam above a handful of individuals which would be ousted immediately. -

"Because we are so deep into the last days, they need every possible person in the preaching work."
I'd be interested in seeing how many Bethelites they send to preach in Bangledesh or India or China. I guess the angels have those territories covered, though, and have seen that most of the "deserving ones" are located in the Western World.... Lord knows we need more witnesses in the states to record more not-at-homes! The end surely must be nigh!! -

Oh, its only a matter of time - the WTS does not want to give the impression that they DF for anything other than Biblical reasons - they are likley just waiting until the heat blows over from this, at least until after their appeals process is over.

"didn't a guy lose his hand long ago at Bethel and all he got was sent home?"
- what about the guy who fell down an elevator shaft and died? I wonder if that sort of thing could have been a wrongful death lawsuit. But it was so long ago....
I to was threatened with dismisal because of a repetitive strain injury doing some particularly repetitive tasks. It wasn't getting any better and I couldn't work. I did physical thereapy for a couple weeks and after that they had some guy recomend I leave. I pulled some strings though and I got to stay - but at the time I was crushed they would just send me home without giving me more recuperation time. Little did I know that newboys are a dime a dozen in the States. These kind of injuries are some of the most common, especially in the bindery and shipping. -

Assemblies: Were You Always on the Prowl for a Mate?
by prophecor init was usually encouraged that we try to remain single somewhere during the assembly, especially the summer conventions.
some of you sisters were so hott with your summer dresses, hair freshly done.
though i went for the obligatory meeting attendance, it was nice to be able to go on a fishing expedition for sisters, if that was your choosing.

Are you kidding me? This was pretty much the entire purpose of assemblies and conventions for me....
