  sorry to pose this question if it is here on the board somewhere.

  i have been sifting for hours and even though i've found lots of great information, i can't find what i am looking for.. motivated by the hurricane tragedies, i decided to become a red cross volunteer on a local level.

  i had my first training on saturday and came away feeling very good about my decision.

  Thank you for your comments. I think Blondie hit the nail on the head with:

  In a recent Question From Readers, 11-1-05, page 31, the WTS says "However, certain forms of employment are in clear violation of Bible principles and should be avoided. These include employment connected with gambling, the misuse of blood, and the promoting of tobacco products.

  If employment is in violation, it only stands to reason that volunteering would be along the same lines. Maybe even more appropriate was the comment concerning the WTS speaking out of both sides of their mouth....don't we know that!

  Thanks for the encouraging words, Uzzah. I look forward to getting more involved with the Red Cross.

  One point I didn't mention. He is starting an insurance business and he was advised by the company to become community oriented. His reasoning for being able to be involved as a JW was because of business reasons. If it were for other reasons, it might be questionable; i.e. my reason for wanting to help others. He then asked me if I found his reason for condoning it offensive. It was a true WTF moment....

  Wow, did I mess that statement up:

  Did I miss something in my 20+ years of indoctrination or is he just trying to sugar-coat things to make me think less of the borg?

  How could I possibly think any LESS of it than I do now? Maybe that should have been to make me think less badly of the borg...

  Sorry to pose this question if it is here on the board somewhere. I have been sifting for hours and even though I've found lots of great information, I can't find what I am looking for.

  Motivated by the hurricane tragedies, I decided to become a Red Cross volunteer on a local level. I had my first training on Saturday and came away feeling very good about my decision. In later discussion with my JW husband, I told him I was very excited about the opportunity to do something useful but commented it was too bad we couldn't do something like that together. He seemed confused and asked why I thought that. It was my understanding that the JWs frowned on involvement with this type or organization since their's is the only one that offers a 'real' solution to mankind's problems through God's Kingdom. He seemed to think I was crazy for coming up with this assumption. Did I miss something in my 20+ years of indoctrination or is he just trying to sugar-coat things to make me think less of the borg?

  no offense to those with large families (and no compliment to those with small ones), this is a thread speaking of averages and groups, not specific people and families.

  your mileage may vary.

  dealer participation will affect consumer cost.

  Wow, I had to think long and hard about this one. My husband (current JW) and I (practicing Apostate) are of well above average intelligence and had a very large family. Could it be because we were stupid enough to believe the bullsh*t published in the Watchtower years ago that more or less forbid sterilization if a man was ever to be considered for any position in the congregation; actually comparing someone who had the procedure to a eunuch of Bible times? Hmmmm.....yes, I feel like a dumbass sometimes for ever having believed any of it now. And yes, I know there was birth control available, but unfortunately not the type you could take and breastfeed so at least I enjoyed some natural child spacing.

  I am happy to report that we were never a part of the welfare system but even more importantly, none of our children grew up to be JWs; now those, IMHO, are very intelligent offspring.

  In conclusion, intelligent people can be brainwashed to do incredibly stupid things but as for this post....I personally don't see a correlation between family size and intelligence.

  how can a person tell when a dub has reached the point of no return?.

  how can a dub tell for themselves.. (for those who know my story, don't mistake my question for a hopeful turn of events).

  i was just curious how someone determines a person's status re the org with absolute certainty?

  My husband and I always gauged that point when a person didn't even bother to come to the Memorial, something akin to the unforgivable sin and a sign that not only had you abandoned the 'truth' but Jehovah had abandoned you. I've actually missed the past two years now, out of 7 years of missed meetings. What a wonderful point to reach.....I'm done!

  she very cunningly (like the serpent) says to me: did you know our brothers are at the un building everyday to take notes on what is going on so we can be informed, isn't that wise that jehovah is having his people so informed????????

  i choked on my cheesecake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  ( something she always says to me) with that she replied she has a couple at her hall that were in bethel and they told her.

  Are You Still Affected By Guilt?

  do you still feel any guilt for celebrating a birthday or holiday or associating with "worldly" people or doing anything that the watchtower has inculcated as being wrong???

  Guilt? Absolutely not! I do get uncomfortable around my active JW husband but it's not guilt in any way. I do tend to forget my kids' birthdays sometimes after so many years of doing nothing. How sad...

  Ever thought of going back...

  ...and raising hell?.

  i read a lot of experiences that so many went through while a jw...the judicial committee meetings, the verbal abuse from elders and pioneers, the intrusion into private matters, the list goes on and on.

  i haven't had to endure some of the terrible things that some have endured, though there was always the constant counsel about grooming, music, movies, cars, etc.. sometimes i think, knowing what i know now, that if i ever had to go back for whatever reason, i could really enjoy being a thorn in the side of many of the elders and over-righeous zealots.

  I went to the Memorial the first few years I was out just to ease the shock for my husband. Each year I got a little more pissed off and finally skipped it the last two years. Funny, I remember back when, telling my husband that you could really tell when people had gone over the edge when they didn't even make the Memorial. I am so glad to be over that edge now.

  I have thought it might be kind of fun to go to the Memorial sometime and partake just to see what they'd do....

  What is this comment oldflame? I live in Redding, so it caught my eye.

  I wish that Redding, California was the next town away from Kansas city, Missouri. LOL
