I cried for the past
by joelbear ini cried for a long time today, very deeply, sobbing heavily for those i have lost in my life.
mostly due to watchtower rules.. i am developing a new set of bear friends and look forward to good times with them.. the suicidal thoughts have subsided.. i have never really tried to make a concrete set of friends here.
i think its time to do so.

Reestablishing family ties with non-Witnesses
by cyberguy inas most of you folks know, non-witness family members are treated almost the same way as jw's treat disfellowshipped people.
after leaving the borg, fully or partially, has anyone had good results in reestablishing relationships with non-witnesses family relatives?
i've got over a dozen cousins that i'd like to have a relationship with once again, but i'm not sure the best way to break-the-ice.

Bigboi, I'll meet you halfway on this. Granted, MLK managed to get some people to change their attitudes. Enough to effect change for the better. Unfortunately, others allowed their attitudes move in a different direction. That's why he isn't with us today.
Old? Yeah, man, I am getting old. Lots of observation and experience under this old hood. Sometimes I just have to let it out. ;)

Donkey's never-ending atheism thread
by donkey inwih the permission of simon, i would like to start a thread to act as a collection of thought, quotes and miscellany on atheism and agnosticism.
there are so many other threads on this subject but no one place which one can go to on here.
i have much to share - enjoy and contribute with me please.give me the storm and stress of thought and action rather than the dead calm of ignorance and faith.

When men are in trouble they absolutly DO turn to God, by in large. This is a fact to me.
CornerStone: please distinguish between repartee and emotional exchange. You did not "strike a nerve". You simply made a blanket statement, using an all-inclusive "we", which is false by virtue of the fact that it is not true in my case; nor, I know by discussion and observation, is it true in the case of the agnostics and atheists I know.
You have a speaking habit of turning isolated instances into absolutes, which may be a communication problem for you. For example, in the quote above, you use the term "absolutely" and immediately after it the phrase "by and large". This is the equivalent of saying "genuine imitation". "By and large" means "for the most part" or "in typical cases" whereas "absolutely" means "in every single case". It's either one or the other, Stone, but not both.
You also say, "This is a fact to me." It seems you need to brush up on the definition of the term "fact". The thought you seem to want to convey with this sentence is, "This is my opinion," and that is perfectly fine. But please acknowledge that it is simply an opinion, unsubstantiated by any documentation.
Now, here is some documentation for you: I do not respond in the manner you described when in the circumstances you described. Therefore it is not a fact ("Knowledge or information based on real occurrences" - American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language) that men absolutely turn to God when in trouble.
Emotion has nothing to do with this. We're discussing facts.

It wasn't idealistic mumbo-jumbo, bigboi. There is only one person whose attitude you can change. Anything else is wishful thinking.

The living cannot end God's life.
Truly spoken. To end a life, there must first be one.
Better stick to speaking for yourself. You clearly haven't got a clue what goes on in my mind. But when we are weak and feable we wisper in a hushed tone................
"Please God, if you are there, don't forget me, please help me................

Music, doesn't it fill such a need :)
by LyinEyes ini am sitting here listening to my kazaa, finding old songs that i had forgotten i even knew at one time.
music to me has always been an outlet for expression, even thou the words and music belong to someone eles.
it can help me to work thru my emotions in ways like no other .

Yay, music! Says things so well when words alone aren't doing it. For instance, I sent this to a lady I was wooing.
Her reply said, in part:
I am now a puddle on the floor and am using an adaptive device to type.
You sure are getting to know the right buttons to push, aren't you. -
