I am not sure if I should be saying this or not, in the interest of remaining anonymous, but I have known him for a long, long time. He is from Phoenix. His brother just got reinstated in Phoenix. He was always single, I don't know if he still is. He is very highly regarded by the witnesses here as far as I know. He used to be the biggest jokester when I knew him. He was an elder and a regular pioneer. I remember hearing that he became a CO in the midwest or something. Interesting family. PM me if you want.

Does anyone know the Circuit Overseer, Randy Letcher?
by PaNiCAtTaCk inwe had him in our circuit around a year ago.
he was a very arrogant pianist/circuit overseer.
he came along when i was starting to have strong doubts and after his visits i had no choice but to pursue my doubts.

Jws use activity as a distraction
by atypical ini was just thinking - since i have been fading and not at meetings, i have gotten many, many phone calls.
i have gotten many comments.
it occurred to me that every time i hear something from a witness, it has to do with trying to get me involved in an activity.

Yes, I have definitely been taking a break. I haven't been to meetings or service for months now. The longer I am gone, the less sense it all makes, which I find interesting. And you are right, Prophecor and Sphere, if a person really follows the schedule that the WTS wants them to, they would barely have time to use the bathroom, let alone start to question doctrine or leadership. I have been reading Steve Hassan's website, and it has so much that applies to the jw culture.
Even though I understand what is happening, somehow it still blows my mind that nobody wants to step up and prove the religion to me with their bible. Even though I have been gone, I am still shocked to realize how much the religion is based on social pressure.

WALKING IN THE PATH OF INCREASING LIGHT - WT STUDY
by Mary infor those of you not "keeping up with the organization"botchtower deals soley with all the bullshit instances of "increased light" on this joke of a religion god's organization.
it asks many drone-like thought-provoking questions as i've listed below.
incredible that these guys claim to be the sole ownership of what is absolute "truth", yet change doctrines like i change lipsticks.

My take is that they are trying to combat the deluge of information that people are getting from the internet. The smartest thing they could do is justify why they have had all the ever-changing policies, and make it seem righteous somehow. I think their main interest is damage control; giving the ones who are still there a reason not to listen to us "apostates".

I was just thinking - Since I have been fading and not at meetings, I have gotten many, many phone calls. I have gotten many comments. It occurred to me that every time I hear something from a witness, it has to do with trying to get me involved in an activity. "Come to this meeting" "Come to this special talk" "Did you hear about the Arabic group's first official meeting?" "So and so has a talk this sunday, would you like to come?"
How come nobody says "Can I come over by myself and talk to you? We can pull out three different translations of the bible, an interlinear, Strong's concordance, and I will show you exactly why this organization is chosen by God. I will show you from the bible why you should follow this group." It seems almost comical to imagine.
The only objective seems to be to get me in a group setting where I will be the outcast. Everything involves group pressure. Then it will seem so easy and nice to go ahead and fit in. I will turn off my brain, and just concern myself with endless, mindless activity.
My point is, and I'm sure it has been said before, but I think that the Watchtower uses constant activity to keep people from having a chance to step back and look at what they believe and why they do what they do.

Stupid Rush Limbaugh comment
by Vormek2.8 in"how could the dinosaurs have lived in the deserts of the middle east?
he said that about 2 weeks ago.
"i knew they were supposed to have lived in louisianna and texas but i've become skeptical because they want me to believe they could live in the sands of arabia".

If Rush couldn't keep making people mad, he wouldn't have as big an audience, and he would lose his job. His job is to get people to listen. The more people who talk about him, including the ones who hate him, the better job he is doing. JoelBear is right, he is a shockjock.

Keep it up, man. You'll feel so good when you beat it. Just don't try to replace it with another habit, go with all the advice on putting that interest into other hobbies.

Did you ever get any "Bad Advice" from Elders or Ministerial Servants?
by JH in.
i remember once, an elder told me that i could become a full time pioneer.
i was working 40 hours a week, and had a seasonal job 7 months a year.. the way he figured it out, i could work 8 hours during my day, then go to my meetings, and still find 3 or 4 hours to preach that same day...... i told him to go climb a tree.

I was in a judicial meeting over alleged "porneia" from 4 years prior(4 years, in case you missed it) - At the first meeting, the chairman of the committee said that I was absolutely not to tell my wife why I was meeting with them! WTF!?

How Many Of You?
by justsomedude inhow many of you, when you were an active and zealous jw (assuming you were), were motivated by the paradise idea?
i was basically born in, so i wasn't drawn to the religion, it just was.. the whole idea of the paradise never really exicted me though.
i followed the religion and did what i did because i just believed it was the right thing to do and not so i could obtain the carrot on the end of the string.. how many of you felt the same way?

Honestly, I always liked the idea. I didn't like the idea of heaven, and the thought of being able to keep living with no health problems in a cleaned up earth was great to me. I can't say how much I ever truly believed it would happen, but I did like paradise idea very much. I still wish it could be true, to some extent.

1975 - serves you right. No extra brownie points sycophants
by Spectrum inthis issue came up with my jw nephew(17).
i jumped at the chance at using it to prove that the org is a fraud but then the focus changed slightly.
i said, "do you know how many people's lives were disrupted by this event.

I think James Woods hit it right on the head. Perfect question for any witness who tackles this subject:
Are the people who were not influenced by the WTS better off after 1975? If so, what does that tell us today? Would it be wise to base our decisions on hints we receive in the publications, or should we trust our better judgment? Again, who fared better, the ones who hung on the society's words, or the ones who paid little attention to them?
Hmmmmmmm?????????
