I never did much during most of my time as I was too busy. But after a few years I was so bored with the meetings as they where always the same things over and over again that I could anticipate the next scripture someone was going to use.
So after getting married I began to study more on my own. Thankfully as this is what led me out. I used to joke how I was going to write a book called " The Other Scriptures". Meaning the ones we never quoted or cited.
I'm far from a scholar but that is a good point. You don't need to be to see the Watchtower is wrong and they know it.

To live to be 100, think about this?
by free2beme inlast week we had a birthday party for my friends great grandfather, he turned the big 100. he is living with his children, and has his own room and actually does pretty good for someone of 100. he can talk to you, remembers things, but he has his moments ... he is 100. we were all talking about the way the world has changed for this man, in 100 years.
he was born in a time, when cars were not common and only the superweathly had them.. ww1 and ww2 had not happened yet.. the titanic was not built, and had not sunk.. there were still many thousands of veterans alive from the civil war.. computers started to get popular in his 70's.. he lived through the great depression in his 30's.. ... so many more.
so i was thinking, if you were to live to be 100, what things would you reflex on as major changes in events.

New Testament support for the name Yahweh?
by WhatSexRU inexcuse me if this has been discussed before but im looking for evidence that any of the nt authors knew that the name yahweh (yahveh, jehovah, yhwh, or any variation) existed.
im testing a naive hypothesis that says that the nt authors were reading from the lxx and that they only saw kurios.
keep in mind im a complete novice and a (friendly) dangerous idiot.

Does it matter if YHWH was in the LXX? Isn't the question was it in the NT?
If the divine name was in the LXX and not in any NT manuscripts this only strengthens the idea that Jesus and YHWH are the same and the NT authors used the new name Jesus along with the title of Lord to speak of him.
I have seen that some of the J references that the WTS cites use the tetragrammaton in verses applied to Jesus.

We do not claim to be inspired prophets
by OnTheWayOut inpage 136 of the book, reasoning from the scriptures, says .
"jehovah's witnesses do not claim to be inspired prophets.
2. false prophets.

There is so much semantics involved here on the WTS's part it is ridiculous.
Here is how I see it.
Obviously a false prophet is not inspired by God. The Watchtower admits they are not inspired.
A false prophet would make false predictions. The Watchtower admits they have made false predictions.
The Watchtower has called themselves prophets many times. The fact that they also say they are not prophets only strengthens the position that they are false and should not be listened to.
If the Watchtower is adament that they are not prophets then who is fulfilling Acts 2:17,18?
The Apostle Paul clearly stated that some would not preach the gospel he preached but would go beyond his message. His gospel was from revelation from Christ and was true.
The others would preach a different gospel. Teachings of man. They would be false and these men would be accursed.
There are only two gospels, Paul's gospel,( revelation from Christ, true ) and another gospel, (teachings of man, false, accursed, beyond Paul's)
So was it a revelation of Christ that armageddon would come in 1914? Christ returned in an invisiblepresence in 1874? Faithful patriarchs would be resurrected in 1925? Sheep and goats were gathered and seperated after 1914? The generation that saw the events of 1914 would not all die before armageddon?
Therefore these teachings are beyond Paul's, they are teachings of man and the people who taught them are accursed.

I said something to my wife. I've been really tolerant for two years but am ready to enter a new phase of saying it like it is. She is ready.
A friend of hers came in from out of town and they caught up on all the gossip. So much whispering. Thats one thing I forgot about. In an effort to live up to an impossible way of life, JWs have to whisper about so much becuase they don't want anyone to know that they are just like everyone else.
Well it just so happens that their friend, sort of mine too, left her husband this very same day. They chatted about whether it was his excessive drinking or did she hook up with someone else. They also caught up on all the other failing marraiges and sad stories of their congregations.
Later that night as my wife told me the details I couldn't help but snicker. When she asked why I said well honey you can take these stories and stick them in that brochure about how you are the true religion. She said don't pick on her. I said I'm not, I think its great that you guys are just like everyone else.
I honestly think she agrees with this. She didn't get upset at all. I hope that something will get through.
Thanks for listening.

Why animals die?
by EzroJP ini know why human beings die, but why animals die?.
did they commit anything wrong according to the laws of god, so they have to die?.

It is a great point and shows the limitations of Biblical philosophy. Men went to great lengths to explain death but "forgot" to explain death in the animal kingdom.
Does Jesus's sacrifice offer everlasting life to animals, will there be death in the new system. Over the years the WTS has looked at the physiology of the human body to make the point that we weren't meant to die. They mention things like the immune system and the brain. The only problem is the animals have these too.
How about all types of life? Will bacteria and viruses get everlasting life? How about amoebas and insects? Reptiles and mammals?

Why does the WTS feel the need to avoid taxes. Didn't Jesus say to give Caesars things to Caeser? Don't taxes bring benefits to the poor? The ill? The handicapped? I'm proud to contribute a portion of my pay for such things. Its the least the WTS could do since they donate zilch otherwise.

Do other religions have questions you're not allowed to ask ?
by A Paduan inthere seem to be certain unanswerable questions that only "apostates" would ask - ones that sort of send up a flare.. do other religions have these "you must be the debbil" fears of thought ?.
-
Woodsman
ie. an answer that doesn't directly address the question - or even answer something you weren't actually asking
I think thats called a Red Herring and yes the WTS does that all the time.
