often referring to them as 'historical milestone' in JW history.
In my experience whenever they said there was going to be something significant, it turned out to be very boring. Usually orders to spend more time irritating your neighbors.
are any "apostates" planning to protest at the upcoming special international conventions?
we heard the wts is going to pull out the surprises.
for those who may not know.... the jws make a big deal out of these special international conventions, often referring to them as 'historical milestone' in jw history.. manys jws, more than the norm, including those without any seniority (unusual), have been hand-picked from many thousands of jw applicants worldwide, to travel to the exciting foreign locations around the world (and 1 or 2 u.s. locations) for the upcoming international conventions.

now that my decision to leave the organization is made, there is definitely a sense of relief.
i know i'm leaving a controlling organization, not my faith in god.
so i'm still praying at various times during the day, but it has become a very odd thing now.
Use your mind and you will find that nothing fails like prayer.
i find it fascinating when a poster says he or she has just had a visit from the jws.
the recalled encounter is always very interesting.. knowing how the average jw thinks, most of you, who are ex-jws, have the benefit of hindsight.
i think it would be very entertaining to read all your stories of jw encounter of the third kind since leaving the org .
I asked them to give my jw family a shout (they were working on the same street) and ask them to pop in and tell my wife how happy the JW books made our family. A cool conversation stopper...they walked away fuming.
Well done!
most of us here have been jw's.
most of us believed it was the truth.
inherent in that is the belief that we would be persecuted and this would be one of the signs that we were the true religion.
I am happy to say I did compromise when I was a MS and my daughter was having surgery. The doctor had my x and I sign a paper that said he'd to everything reason to avoid blood, but if it came down to it he could give her blood. We signed it. It turned out she didn't need blood, but I felt guilty after the surgery and confessed to an elder. He said not to worry about it as we don't always handle things like we should.
which watchtower teachings lack logic?.
i know you're all tempted to say all of them, but some beliefs if the facts were true, would be logical.. which ones that are supposed to be a logical consequence of a true fact are in fact not logical whether the fact is true or not?.
for an example of logical belief based on untrue or unprovable fact , if god created adam and all humans came from him,(supposed fact) he could pass on defects in his genes to all humans and we could all be "imperfect".this we could call logical.. a watchtower belief that lacks logic is for example jw's who go through armageddon or die and are ressurected to earth are not perfect but still have another test to go through, yet those who die and that go to heaven are perfect straight away and require no further testing.. so which teachings are based on beliefs that are not true and which ones are just not logical?

I never did get this one. If you cut my finger off and I have children it doesn't mean my children will be missing a finger. Adam could only pass on defects after he sinned supposedly, so isn't it the same thing? Makes no sense to me. Maybe you could straighten out my thinking.
today i spoke with a former jw i've been in touch with for several years and discovered what i think could be a major bombshell for the wts.
as we all know, shunning is the most powerful weapon the wt cult has over its members and for decades the wts has been able to get away with practicing it at their whim.
the us and other courts have permitted them to to use it, even though it destroys families and has ruined countless lives.
Way cool!
remember this as christmas nears.
> according to the alaska department of fish and game, while both male and.
> female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop.
Damn straight!

at the age of 53 i graduated from arizona state university with a bachelor's in spanish.
when everyone stood for the national athem i felt a little guilty at first, but i soon got over it!
Thanks everyone!
hamptonite21, I'm going to start working on my master's right away and when I finish that I may teach or perhaps be an interpretor.
Craig, I not sure there is a good way to learn a language without living in the culture. Although I have a degree in Spanish I don't speak it fluently. I was an exchange student in Mexico Spring semester of this year and that helped a lot, but wasn't enough time. In fact, I've applied for a Fulbright grant so I can do my master's in Mexico, so I can really become fluent. I won't know until at least February if I get the grant so I'm going to start the Master's program here at ASU.
moreisbetter, here's my story. I was born and raised a dub. I have a large extended family of dubs, so there was a lot a pressure not to go to college. So I did the stupid thing and tried to pioneer. What a disaster. Then I got married and worked for the State of Washington. During the 70's I "fell out of the troof" for a few years and took quite of few classes at night school. Then I went back to dubland and did that for about 15 years. In 91 I decided I couldn't pretend I was straight anymore and left my wife and the dubs. In 2000 I retired from the state and my partner and I moved to Phoenix and I got a job at Arizona State University. Right away I started taking classes and before long I was working the night shift and taking four classes in the mornings. I was lucky that ASU accepted all the classes I had taken in the 70's, so I started out with 28 semester hours. I can do my homework while I'm at work during slack times, so that's made it easier too. It has been really exhausting at times, but I'm sure glad I did it. I'm starting grad school in January, but I'm only going to take three classes. That should be easy. I hope.
