He says there are three lines of reasoning to prove the FDS was selected by Christ? What are they? From what you have recounted the speaker offered no such proof. Such typical JW shill-gaming.

Notes: Friday District Convention - Follow the Anointed Who Follow Christ
by truthseeker intoday was the first day of three for this year's "follow the christ" district convention.. for the first time in as many years as i can go back, the theme of this program was jesus christ.. most of the program was ok. the talks considered jesus, his life and his works.
there was nothing about the talks that i considered insulting or controlling.. could this be it?
could the society really be going jesus-centric?.

Did paintball at the weekend
by cyberdyne systems 101 init was for a birthday treat for one of my friends, me and his best friend arranged it and wow was it a laugh!
i got some good bruises going on, but thats all part of the fun.. i'd always wanted to do it, and apart from doing something called laser quest, which is just light guns, i'd always considered it to much of a no no, when a dub.
i recommend it to anyone, there was men, women, children of say 13 or 14 too, the paint balls are a bit pricy but if its a one off, and the memories you take away are great.. cs 101.

I got into paintball the year I decided to leave the "truth." It was very liberating. I've since played in several large scenario games, including Oklahoma D-Day. That's when paintball becomes very fun! There's nothing like jumping out of the back of a moving tank (modified van) and storming an entrenched position with six other dudes, screaming bloody murder all the way......
What a rush!

I'm a huge Don Imus fan, I've listened to him every morning on the way to work for years. The man has done a lot of good for a lot of people. When this controversy first broke I took his side, but now I don't know.
The women on the Rutgers basketball team are role models, perfect examples of the success that honest, hard work can achieve. At the high point of their lives they deserve better than to be referred to in such gangsta' rap rhetoric. Ultimately, Don Imus' future rests in their hands.

I went to the Memorial.
by RichieRich ini'm just going to start at the beginning.. i was anticipating the memorial all day.
i was nervous but excited, kind of like standing in line for a roller coaster.. ok. so erika gets ready at her house, and i get ready at mine.
i'm wearing a black suit with a light green shirt, and a tie that had hues of green and yellow in it.

I love your mothers words, "it was YOUR choice." I think your Mom and my Mom are clones.
Richie you are a very brave man, and I commend you for that. It sounds to me like you have a very special girlfriend, take care of her bro! Speaking to you as a man who has suffered for years with a similar mother let me say this....your mother loves you very deeply, but will probably never be able to fully accept you. You strike me as a highly intelligent person, take advantage of it! Get your degree, live a successful life. The best revenge is living well.

Parallels between Jonestown and WT org?
by skeptic1914 inhow many saw the recent "jonestown-paradise lost" on the history channel?
i realize the suicide/murder of over 900 in jonestown, guyana on novemebr 18, 1978 may be old news but i've always been interested in how cult leaders hold power over their believers.
i've been reluctant to classify jw as a cult but some obvious parallels struck me:.

"White night, white night."
I watched the documentary. The thing that struck my was the look on people's faces. It reminded me of the glazed stare of Witnesses.

Doing your own building work. Success or Disaster?
by Clam ini've recently had a burst water pipe in my house, which now gives me the chance (courtesy of the insurance cheque.
i'm lucky to have a good friend who's a carpenter so he'll be doing the complicated stuff, but while i'm happy to have a go at general diy, i'm always stressed about screwing up, rather than just getting on with it and enjoying it.
do you do your own diy, plumbing, wiring etc.

I recently remodeled my kitchen, bear in mind that I'm a licensed electrician who also used to frame houses and work on Quick Builds. I thought I'd knock my kitchen out in a couple of weeks and have a grand old time. Wrong! A kitchen remodel is the biggest undertaking a DIY can face. Just be prepared, it's a lot more work than you may expect.

Should I wait to be questioned by the elders? or take my leave in advance?
by Thinking of Leaving inhi everyone, i recently joined this forum as i'm close to being df.
i am suppose to meet with a judical committee soon but was thinking that i don't want to go through those personal questions that i'm sure the elders would ask.
does anyone know, is it better to just tell the elders before, say like on the phone, that i want to be df and not go through the committee?
-

You need to separate yourself from the belief that the Judicial committee is Jehovah's arrangement, it is not. What you will be subjected to is spiritual abuse. Your sins are between you and God, not men. Those elders only have as much power over you as you give them.

ARE YOU UPSET THAT YOU DIDN"T GO TO COLLEGE?
by minimus ini have read of some people's bitterness because they were denied the opportunity to go to college.
during the 60's and 70's the society really discouraged any education other than what was necessary.
since the end was so near, especially around 1975, anybody that decided to go to "higher education" was considered very weak and unbalanced.

Although some may want to pursue financial advantages, prestige, or comforts of life, the family examine the Bible to see what it recommends.
I love how the Society always frames a topic in a negative light, as if the only reason people pursue a degree is out of greed.
I was pissed that I never went to college so I enrolled and am now pursuing my B.S. I now see some advantages in being an older student, for one I appreciate my education more. I study harder than I would have at age 18, and as a result I get better grades.

Bethel Romeos - throwing your daughters at them
by Uzzah init was raised in a comment quoted in the national post article today:.
on speaking engagements at kingdom halls throughout the country, fathers would sometimes even offer up their daughters in marriage to him because of the prestige of his position, he said.. have any of the gals here experienced this?
did your parents 'parade you' around visiting bethelites or try to set you up with them?
-

Several families from my area have sent their daughters to the NY area, renting them houses and paying their bills for them so that they could "volunteer" at Bethel. Our obnoxious, abusive PO sent both of his daughters off to keep them away from all the horny JW boys, imagine his surprise when they both got engaged to Bethelites, man was he pissed.
