Teresa Graves dead
by JWinSF ini just read in the 10/11/2002 edition of the san francisco examiner that teresa graves died in a fire at her home in la.
she was 54. for those too young to remember, she was a fabulous comedienne on rowan & martin's laugh-in tv show [that also featured goldie hawn, ruth buzzi, lily tomlin, arte johnson, and many other great talents].
she also did a few movies, the last in 1974. that's about the time that she gave it all up to become a jw.. john w wirtanen

"Get Christie Love!" actress dies in house fire Fri Oct 11, 5:02 PM ET
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actress Teresa Graves, who appeared on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" and starred as the sexy undercover cop on The 1970s TV series "Get Christie Love!", has died in a fire that erupted in her Los Angeles home, authorities said.
Graves, 53, was found unconscious in a rear addition to the house where a faulty space heater sparked the blaze, and she was pronounced dead early Thursday at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in nearby Inglewood, according Los Angeles Fire Department officials.
They said the home in the city's Hyde Park district was equipped with working smoke detectors, but Graves may not have heard them from the room she was in. Neighbors said Graves lived with her mother, who had suffered a stroke last year.
Graves is perhaps best known for her title role as a sassy Los Angeles police detective in the ABC action drama "Get Christie Love," which aired from September 1974 to July 1975 and was one of the first prime-time series with a black woman in the lead. Other credits include a big-screen role as the Countess Vampira in the 1974 British horror spoof "Old Dracula," starring David Niven
She also was a regular on NBC's "Laugh-In" from 1969 to 1970 and appeared in 1969's multimedia/variety flop "Turn-On," one of the biggest one-episode fiascos in television history.
According to the Los Angeles Times, her final showbiz appearance was in a Bob Hope special in 1982.

It is interesting that this news story says nothing about her family other than saying that she lived with her mother.

The D.C. area sniper
by Bendrr inon my lunch break today i was eating at fuddruckers and watching cnn (wish they'd put on fox news instead) and see another sniper shooting in virginia.. well i got to thinking.
could this be terrorist activity?
could it be an al-qaeda terrorist cell?

Personally, I believe it could be terrorist related. Look at what the sniper has accomplished. He has thousands of people in the DC area scared to death. They shut down freeways in that area today and people are afraid to go outside....afraid to buy gas.
I hear that they cancelled all outdoor activities for tonight in the area....no high school football games and the like.
What do you people who live in the DC area have to say about it?

I am sorry to hear about Teresa Graves.
I remember reading her story in the awake. The newspaper article indicates that she lived the the Hyde Park area of Los Angeles.
Is there anyone out in that area who can confirm that she stopped attending meetings a long time ago?

Sniper just might be in my Hood
by JT ini just went to the lunchroom and say my hood on tv here in md.
they got cops everywhere, called up some folks who are home todayand yep the police is everywhere.
they picked up a lady to question and they are searching for a guy with what appears to be a gun bag, he was seen running from near one of the schools in my hood.

) and i stumbled upon these quotes from the 3/15/96 watchtower...... 10 loyalty to jehovahs visible organization also means having nothing to do with apostates.
loyal christians will not be curious about what such people have to say.

But deep down I wanted to investigate, not by reading apostate material, mind you.......but by actually looking up material in the Society's publications to see what they had to say. But I was so afraid to do that, because I thought I would be apostate by doing that.....EVEN LOOKING UP SUBJECTS THAT WERE IN THEIR OWN MAGAZINES.
That is what apostate literature is, Their own old publications! -

This is exactly the way it worked for me
Whenever an interested person hesitates to get baptized because of feeling he does not yet know the complete theology of Jehovahs Witnesses, that one is told that it is a mistake to put off baptism. After all, once one comes to know Jehovah God and accepts his son as our saviour, what else is necessary for salvation? The rest will be learned later.
From this it can be appreciated that the indoctrination program is designed to give a person sufficient knowledge of the Bible to make a commitment to join the Witness religion, with the understanding that the learning process will continue after baptism. Never is there any suggestion that questioning of doctrine will be disallowed.
The Bible study program begins with the explanations of doctrinal matters. The truth is taught and that which is not true is presented superficially ma manner that seems to be true. However, as the weeks go by, the Witness conducting the study begins to bring up the subject of the organization, explaining all the fine and commendable points about the preaching work it does, the high moral standard it follows, etc. Naturally, this leads to discussions about that group of men who are responsible for directing this fine religious organization. Over a period of time the prospective convert is encouraged to consider the Societys leaders as possibly being the faithful and discreet slave appointed by Christ.
Having been allowed and encouraged to check Watchtower teachings with the Bible until the time he comes to believe that he is being taught the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, the prospective convert logically accepts the Witness leaders as being the faithful and discreet slave.Chester

they asked how i was doing and usual chit chat.
i asked them about if they had seen dateline and about the child abuse problem.

If they ask you why you have stopped attending the meetings tell them that you found out the reason why they have so many articles telling the "friends" to stay off the internet. I would not say anything more than that. Give them something to think about.
