the disaster relief committee at patterson organized 3 meetings this past memorial day, monday september 5, 2005. the meetings were held in lake charles, louisiana; bossier city, louisiana; and ball, louisiana.
over 1,200 elders were in attendance from louisiana, missouri, arkansas, and texas.
i took horrible notes, but want to share a few things.. the elder opening the meeting emphasized the importance of confidentiality.
For crying out loud----what is with all this secrecy???? Aren't all attendees to this high mucky-muck meeting all properly cleared ad identified? It's not as if they are the CIA meeting with the FBI to discuss how to take out terrorists! Talking about "how best to serve the brotherhood" is supposed to be the focus isn't it? Why is THAT secret?
The cloak & dagger stuff makes them feel important. How often does a JW get the opportunity to feel important?

What if the conditions you work under does not provide you with the proper working tools which are vital to your job?
Unfortunately, that describes the conditions in most workplaces I've been in. It's a sad day when I'm better equipped to do my job from home than I am when in the office, but that is always the case. It's also pretty pathetic when my home office is more technologically advanced than the environment of the company I work for. I can't count the number of times I took work home just so I can get it done properly and in a timely fashion.

i remember in the late 80s the borg came out with an article "uses and abuses of the welfare system".
I found that most JWs work, but In my 20 years as a dub I only met 3 JW men who had a good work ethic. And I worked with many. Most seemed to be concerned with ways to cut corners.
I knew one elder "handyman" who was sued many times for his shoddy workmanship. My ex threw him out of the house once (he was doing work for my mom, not us). We were living there temporarily because I was out of work due to an injury. He showed up 3 hours late do do some work, and my mom, tired of waiting, went shopping. He finally showed up, but my wife felt it was inappropriate for him to be alone in the house with her unchaparoned. When she told him this an argument ensued, and she threw him out. Then he tried to bill me $100 for that! I phoned him and told him I'd be happy to ram the invoice up his ass but that's all he'd ever get out of me. I also warned him to never go near my wife again, or there would be dire consequences for him.
I don't know what the statistics are for JW unemployment, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were high. If the JWs I knew were anything to go by, it's easy to see why no one in their right mind would hire one. They are the most stupid and incompetent people I've ever known, and when confronted with their incopetence they become belligerent.
Let them worship their f*cked up watchtower and stay the hell out of the real world! Maybe we should be glad to pay them to stay out of the workforce.

what's a kingdom hall buddy?
it's someone who you only see at the hall, and never anywhere else, yet somehow you manage to have a very limited "friendship" with.. i have a few kingdom hall buddies, we never meet socially, but they're always ready to have small talk with you..
Hell, in 20 years as a JW that's all I had except for one guy I used to go drinking with. Of course, our wives eventually put a stop to that!

every september, there is an article in the km about how the congregation did in the past service year.. the service year runs from sep 1st to aug 31st.. so, how does your cong usually do?
what do they need to work on?
ours is usually meeting attendance.. for the past two years, we have set record low's regarding those who auxiliary pioneer each month.

hard as it is to believe, our increasingly brain-dead government is seriously considering allowing sharia law to pass in cana-duh.
for those who aren't familiar with this islamic law, it's an "arbitration" that allows muslims the opportunity to settle disputes concerning family, property and other civil issues in a forum that considers their cases against the backdrop of the qur'an and muslim interpretation.
in other words, muslim women and children here in canada, a supposedly free country, will become shit under their husbands robes if he so chooses.
I just read about this and it's making me sick. I don't have a problem with religious freedom - to a point. IMHO, a person should have the right to believe whatever he or she wants. The right to practice or act upon those beliefs is quite another issue when it encroaches on the rights, freedoms, beliefs, health and life of others.
When a religious law is in conflict with a secular law, the secular law should always win.
