Gary,

my mom hates the daniel book and doesn't even remember studying it before.
(she's 79 today).
maybe she's losing it.....i don't think so.

The book study also serves the important purpose of completely screwing up yet ANOTHER night of the week for everybody. Its all about controlling
the free time of the dubs. Out of all the meetings, I always found the bookstudy the MOST annoying. One bloody hour, and it wasted an entire
evening on top of the ministry school. For awhile though, I remember the book studies being more casual than the hall meetings, I used to wear jeans
and a sweater, no suit or tie, but then they clamped down again and started enforcing the standard dress code for the book study, even though they
were always in somebodies dingy, drab basement.
things like jesus going for a pee, someone splitting thier hose, cutting their finger, are never mentioned in the bible.. one argument is that these things were so commonplace that nobody even thought to mention them.. since there is a rant in the jewish law about men not being allowed to dress as a woman, one would think there might be one recorded instance.
after all they did a tale about the egyptian gathering wood on the sabbath.. does this mean that cross dressing was so common in bible times it didn't even rate a mention in the book?.
was moses a drag queen?
I always thought everybody wore "dresses" in those days, like one big giant drag fest!

My vote for the most mind-numbing book study books had to be the Revelation book and the Daniel book. Just absolutely PAINFULLY DULL
from cover to cover. Do they think anybody gives a rats ass what the prophetic significance of the third crown on the fourth head of the 10th beast following
the 6th sounding of the 8th trumpet of the scarlet harlot?? These books were classic cult control tools, fill the readers mind with endless jargon, disconnected
imagery and somehow twist it all into their end of the world theory. The "questions" require no thought, you just regurgitated verbatim what you had underlined
in the text. Uggghhhhhhhhhhh................
i have been thinking about this because of another post where the question asks have any of us ever been blackmailed to stay in the watchtower organization.. no, i won't say i was blackmailed; however, after i wrote my note of disassociation, the congregation overseer wanted to visit me in my home with two other elders.
i repeatedly said no, that i would not allow them to chastise me in my own home.
therefore, all of my conversations were over the phone with the overseer.
Just proves they promote a philosophy so divorced from anything even remotely christian, they are willing to act as jehovahs appointed executioners.
Makes me sick to hear that. Be strong and fight the power! They are insignificant half-wits who will someday have their come uppance.
i just wanted to start this thread to vent out about how i'm being forced to go to the district assembly convention bullcrap twice all 3 days and to get a little advice on how to get out of it.
but mainly it would be interesting to know how other people got out of going to the meetings.
like acting sick, falling down and scraping your knee, different ways you got out of going to it.
Tetra, that is so funny, you just brought up memories of those dorky "Attendants" who wore those extra pieces of paper on the lapels with such
pride, like they thought they were covert CIA agents or something! I remember some of them would patrol the local malls looking for truants!!
Almost as priceless as those ding-dongs that walked around with those moronic signs "Please sit down", "Please be quiet" "Please keep moving"
oh god Im laughing so hard right now....
anyone know what the current payment for workers at bethel is today?
last i ever heard it was 14.00 a week, certainly this must have gone up since then, wouldn't it?
do the bethel workers and the 'farm' workers make the same?
my god, $ 113 dollars per month in New York City????? That would last, what, about an hour? Just incredible that somebody could "choose" this as a lifestyle!!
what strikes me on this board is the number of adult converts that have left the borg, either fading out or getting df'd.
from my experience (i was born into it, 2nd generation, left before getting baptized) most of the faders or escapees were also like.
me, born into it, never really accepted it and just bowed out at the first opportunity.
Really interesting comments!!!! By my count (and I probably missed a couple!!) of the 35 people listing their status,
we have 77% born into it and then leaving, 9% teen converts and 14% adult converts who eventually left. An extremely
unscientific survey, but maybe suggests that the sacrifices you make as an adult convert strengthens the cognitive
dissonance as a protection against "doubts"? As for us poor kids, I guess we were just pretty damn smart cookies! LOL

Daunt,
for me the best thing was to have a 'partner in crime' that I could hang out with. So, I just told the folks I was sitting with my buddy somewhere else in the stadium and then we
would just take off for the day. Hang out in a nearby mall, go to a movie, go to an art gallery, any activity that would take up a couple hours, then just get back by the closing song to meet my family...they were none the wiser and I had lots of fun exploring the city....but I guess it depends on the environment around the convention site. Good luck, I feel your pain.
well, yet another awake has arrived giving us all the chance to speculate that .
"jehovah's organization" may be getting "too stupid to live".. this month's jawdropper concerns the article "is astrology the key to your future?".
consider this negative appraisal of astrology:.
Any mention of the fact that the WTS used to claim the celestial location of gods "throne" as the Pleides?
Or C.T. Russels use of the occult practice of Pyramidology to arrive at his 1914 "calculations"?
PRICELESS!
