Rilo-Kiley. Jenny Lewis rocks. She's also my fashion icon. Tho' I'm not in the habit of wearing hot pants.

hopefully i'll get to start this year.. travel out of the country - haven't done it because i was never able to financially, nor had the time...now i can and will!.

No time to study spanish? Get a head start by listening to espanol tv or radio...without studying a thing yet. helps me! I've befriended a kid on campus from Mexico City. Every day we cross paths in the library and discuss the latest on...'inocente de ti'.
Most of my goals are travel related...
Be the first person in my family to graduate from college.
Learn to upholster furniture, divide and conquer college calculus, climb a tree? yes, well, I never have. lol.

R. watched them practice yesterday over lake Washington and said it was the best performance of theirs that he has seen to date because of the natural setting...flying right over the lake and bridge as oppose to watching them at airport/airshows. However, yeah, the traffic down there is a nightmare...I'm sure.
I hope it all works out for ya...I suppose you are long gone by now anyway.

what prochecor said was just lovely and true...
Are you a fan of Henry David Thoruea at all? Found myself in a similar situation last year. At the time, I lived a short drive from Walden Pond in Concord, Mass., (more like a small lake really). I walked the perimeter and thought about some of his philosophies. This guy spent two years living alone in a self-built cabin in the woods. ok, total isolation. But, he was onto something in his desires to 'confront life' alone, I think.
Living by yourself may take initial adjustments, but it won't be long before you start to adapt to those new rhythms. For me, it brought the chance to think clearly and hear an inner-voice that's easily drowned by the noises of constant companionship.
You may even grow to love the the 'companionship of solitude.'
During times of loneliness, when all else failed, I 'd watch the "dixie chicks: top of the world" concert dvd and dance around my apt. dont ask me why, but that was a guaranteed cure-all for the lonely blues. If you get lonely, you can borrow it. :) lol.

Let me say -
Gael Garcia. (who the heck is that?) Well, here's a pic from the movie, 'The Motorcycle Diaries'. And if you are thinking, "Chrissy, you just think that guy is hot," N-oo, that's absurd! tehe. He is a good actor and he may be easy on the eyes, but I barely noticed.

Do you trust the internet?
by mtbatoon in.
sparked off by an interview on the radio today about the growth of independent news websites, do you see them as untrustworthy or do you think that with the freedom and exchange of information that the internet provides a community can police itself and bring a truer picture than accredited sites?

In time people become dissatisfied with having only a few news sources and start looking for more sources and this is where the market forces produce many new and small news sources to fill the market demand....
True. Still, the masses rely solely on their favorite network news, thinking they are getting delivered not just the facts but also the facts prioritized. I agree the Internet has totally revolutionized news availability (I mean, who doesnt agree to that though) but I suspect to a new generation of Internet users, somewhat limited in numbers, who are skeptical. Two cheers for having the Internet and to be able to compare corporate media, all of these emerging independent sources, and international news coverage for consideration from a different angle. Can you imagine relying on say, gasp, fox news alone? yikes. scary thought.
personally, i compare these sources and feel I am getting a decent variety of info :
http://www.refdesk.com/ (lots of various sources all in one place)
www.elpais.es (lately...because I am studying spanish)
http://english.aljazeera.net/HomePage (not for the conservative at heart)
http://www.indymedia.org/en/index.shtml (has a Seattle section & pretty much the only indie news source I visit online)

What would you do?
by schne_belly inhello my dear fellow jwd members, i need your in put....please.
since my husband i my recent fading process, we've received a few "love bombing" letters from some in our old congregation.. i've received 2 from an old "friend" whom i grew up with and went to school with.
we've drifted apart years ago, to the point where she wouldn't even look at me at the hall---she's a pionner, husband a ministerial servant.

Hi Schne,
I don't know why I have this feeling that I need to do something.....
I suspect it is because you are a genuine person and although you and she have drifted apart, it is likely you once cared deeply for her. It may have been a long time since you felt anything like that, but female bonds created in childhood are so strong that women often spend their entire lives unknowingly trying to recreate similar connections...though unsuccessfully, as even under normal circumstances, the matured ego will not allow the same dynamic (and for good reason). So on some level it is just natural for some feeling to remain.
So, I have to assume this is part of the reason you want to clear the record with her on your leaving, to save her from her own misdirected "guilt" ...because honestly, I feel any other reason (to prove anything to anybody) is just a waste of your time and energy.
I do suspect she feels guilty for the lose of the friendship but now believes it to be her spiritual duty to extend herself again. If she abandon the friendship when you were an active jw, with no good reason, her sincerity and motives are obvious to you. I can only advise to cut her off completely. Ignore the letters and force yourself to let go of the those thoughts of her misunderstanding you to be "admitting you are wrong and feeling embarrassed for your actions." As long as you are not feeling this way inside yourself, you admit nothing to no one and therefore have no reason to defend your actions.
Congrats on your recent fade,
Chrissy

Mom politely declines to answer my DC Q's
by chrissy inmy mother, a witness, is at her dc in cleveland this very moment as i type.
i spoke with her on the phone a few days ago as she was preparing to travel and so by coincidence the topic came up in conversation.
now, she doesnt know exactly why i stopped serving the tower, as we live along a dont ask, dont tell policy, and other than the fact that each and every time we talk there is a gigantic elephant on party-line with us, that otherwise works just swell.

Thanks for your responses. After sleeping on it, things sort of fell back into perspective a bit. I was more taken back than anything that she responded to my seemingly innocent enough question the way she did.
I think you should just keep a low profile as regards questions about the WTS what's the point of knowing what they are up to with their doctrines
I dunno greendawn, I guess I've been having these bizarre moments lately where I want to bring it up to test her to ultimatley see if I can somehow save her. I imagine everyone feels that way once in awhile in respects to their still-in-it parents.
I blame it on hanging out here on this forum, the quotes website and my recent re-exposure to all of this stuff. It's really not a battle I want to chose, so I'm certain it will pass and like you all advise, we will preserve our relationship by keeping it limited to small talk.
She knows you no longer believe or she would not refuse to speak to you about it
I know- mother's intuition thing. I suspect maybe so.
