  Do you feel comfortable with celebrating the holidays?

  just curious how different individuals have reacted to the though of celebrating holidays after they left the jws...?

  any holidays you have more trouble with than others?

  does halloween freak you out?

  The first year I've been out, I was very happy and enthousiastic about putting up Holiday decorations, I'm a very artistic person and I always felt like I missed a great opportunity....but I kind of felt scared that my dad would come over and see them. This year, however, I almost wish he would!! I even make a great deal of buying everything I need at the store and if I see a JW I know while doing it, well, it's only better!

  I don't mind the origins, I embrace them... pagan traditions are so interesting. Hallowen/Samhain is my favorite as I adore fall.

  It's all been done before...the newbies got me thinking...

  this isn't a negative observation at all, but i've noticed with all the new people here, there are a lot of things i remember being said before being said again.

  some of the things i assumed when i first came here, many are doing again...and it's very interesting to watch.

  i guess the human race is very cyclical.

  i was really great... and sad.

  joy has a great command of the english language and writes beautifully!

  While preaching, did you realize that you were also screwing up their lives

  when you were going door to door, although you had the pure intention of teaching people what you taught was god's will, did you realize back then, that if they listened to you and accepted a bible study that you were also screwing up their lives and that they would suffer greatly by this?.

  No, but I am very thankful that I was absolutely bad at the doors. I rarely got return calls and seldom gave out magasines, I never had a study either. If someone would have become a JW because of me, I would be sure that they'd be the first one I hunt down today..to tell them about everything that I found lacking.

  What religions did you seek since leaving? Or not?

  i'm curious how many people on the board have looked into other religions or spirituality groups since they've left the jw.. what have you looked into?

  did you join anything else?

  read up on any others?

  At firt I looked around quite a lot. It is very free-ing to be abble to read anything you want. I even checked out protestantism, but evolutionism kind of opened my mind to the fact that the Bible might no be all that true. So I checked a few other religions, like Buddhism...I really think Buddhism has a great way of thinking. Very live and let live, don't hurt others or yourself, etc. Although I am not a Buddhist, I really admire those people. I also like old/new religions like New Age and Native-American culture, earth-based religions. I am very close to nature, so I am bound to be pulled towards that.

  Email I received off mum

  hey all, i usually pop into my folks once a week so that my son can see his grandparents.

  anyway last week my dad asked if i wanted to go to a country show\fete with them on sat , so anyway a couple of days later i emailed my mum to see whether my fiance (non jw) could come too.. this is the email i received today.

  as you are going to be busy over the next few weeks, we dont want to put added pressure on you, dont feel you have to come to the show.plus we have already explained the situation regarding mike we dont have anything against him personally, but the situation is difficult for us regards associating with him as your fiance because it would be viewed as our supporting your decision to marry out of the truth.

  You know what the elder told me when I told him that I thought shunning was inhuman and defenitly non christian? He said that Jesus warned that he would come and break up families. (he cited a verse wich I don't remember) but I couldn't find anything to answer him except the heartfelt "But WHO would want to be following someone who's teaching that!!?

  Results of DA letter...(I need help!!)

  dear elders... .

  i'm writting this letter to inform you about my decision to da myself as i do not want to be known as a jw anymore.

  i have tought about this for a long time and made sincere and deep researches, in fact, i decided to examine both side of the coin without any restrictions and i quickly understood why the watchtower society so strongly dissaproves those investigations.

  Yes, that probably is the best thing to do, not to argue about the Bible right now. I know that when I started to doubt, I still beleived very strongly in that book...that part came later. So I'll not mention it the him again...but if *he* does I want to have something to say...or perhaps just change the subject...
