Well, my mother hasn't been to a meeting or reported for ten years...and my father still says "You know, you are still a sister, since you never DA'd or was never DF'd" . We think it's just dillusional talk, since we all know she is equally as apostate as I am and as far from a JW as could be.

So...everything had been fine for a while. I wrote my DA letter, very clear and also very surprinsingly "Apostate" according to the elders. So at first, dad does what he's told is right and starts the shunning. He won't even go somewhere I go.
Then I guess we were lucky, because he started to slowly let things slide, with the help of my super mom who's trying real hard to make him open his eyes. So now, for the last months, everything was pretty normal. He didn't speak to me, but then he never really did before. So I often followed the family to the movies on weekends and we were sitting next to each others at family dinners at grandmas and all that. I even directed a few playful words to him now and then, that he didn't have to answer, to show that I was not going to follow stupid WT rules.
So a few weeks ago, we were gone camping for a week, and we visited a huge mall . And who do we run into? Of all people, a family of JWs we know pretty well. It was a 1 in a million chance to have been in this foreign city at the same time and at the same mall. It was even my dad who called out to them. And him and the brother talked for a while, they always had been pretty good buddies. I had baby-sat the girls a lot before, even though they were almost 10 years younger they were pretty much th only persons I could have called friend when I was in. They really are sweet girls, and I pity them of being in such a family.
Anyway, they talk for awhile, the sister even chats with my non-JW mom. Everyone is all smiles and friendliness, the JWs trying to ignore my presence, but I do get a few smiles to the girls. And then they go, and we leave it as it is. (I pointed out to my mother though, that I'm pretty sure I saw the bro snap a picture of us all from far away. lol) He's the kind of righteous man who would turn in even a friend.
We forgot about the incident, but this week, dad came back more then an hour late from the meeting. Turns out the elders kept him for a little meeting after the meeting. Now would that be a Judicial Comittee, if all the eldies are there? So the bastard he calls a friend just went and told on him. And it seems like the elders went on another speach behind my back about how much of an apostate I am, and a danger, and how I shouldn't have to be going out with my family at my age. And now we're back where we began. With mom and the rest of the family being very upset...and we're wondering what will happen now. It feels like going round ans round in circles.
Well, I just needed to share. I feel super pissed this morning. Pretty happy to own all of Alanis Moristte CDs, they were of good use this morning. Damn, I could punch the stupid bro right on the nose.

Welcome Jehovah
by coolhandluke injehovah, .
oh how many times i've prayed to you and felt your scornful laugh from yonder skies, how you mock me and laugh at me.
my creation is for your amusement obviously, kinda like the celestial version of the sunday comics, only i appear in technicolor everyday for you.

Wow! That was powerful. Maybe I'll print it to hang somewhere in my house. So I can read it when I get too frustrated. Have you ever heard Tori Amos' song "God"? Your letter made me think of it, only with more details, and a bit more angry, from a male perspective...
God
God sometimes you just don`t come through. God sometimes you just don`t come through. Do you need a woman to look after you. God sometimes you just don't come through.
You make pretty daisies, pretty daisies. Love, I gotta find what you're doing about thing here. A few witches burning gets a little toasty here. I gotta find why you always go when the wind blows. Tell me you're crazy, maybe then I'll understand. You got your 9 iron in the back seat, just in case. Heard you've gone south, well babe, you love your new 4 wheels. I gotta find why you always go, when the wind blows.
Will you even tell her if you decide to make the sky fall, will you even tell her if you decide to make the sky....

WTS Running Out of Money? Letter to all congregations...
by drew sagan ina few days ago my wife commented on a letter sent out to all congregations (in the u.s.a.?
) regarding donations.
se said it was long and boaring, but in the end there where a few points she remembered.
-
Lilycurly
Well, for every 10 JWs who are not big on donating money, there is an over-zealous one like my father, who will go and empty his pockets happily everytime an announcement like that is made. It just sickens me, a father of four, and throwing money out of the windows like that. I'd rather he gave it to some charity, this at least would be useful.
I know that if an annoucement to give 8$ has been made, he probably went and gave 20 or 40 bucks after the meeting, feeling all good about having done the right thing and helping out God's people.

Seriously, I always found this sad and illogical.
When I think of that, I always remember a girl my age, back when I was in. An elder's daughter, 20 years old, with two older brothers who were both (of course) MS despite being under 25. She was very smart, even attended college. She was headstrong, I'm sure she was the kind to cry out "sexism!" if she saw it anywhere...anywhere but in the WT, of course.
That one time really pissed me off, when they had her and her brothers interviewed in front of the congo, the guys being smug/humble and crap like that. And her, she said that when she was little, she wanted to be an MS and a Elder, but that now, since she knows God wouldn't approve it, she just tried to pionner a lot and cultivate the qualities that are needed to become one. That's so sick, and everyone applauded and congratulated her for being so spiritual and doing that for Jehobah only and not to get some privilege that she could never get...

Question about shunning from someone who has never been a JW....
by whyizit ini wondered, since the jws claim that jesus is their teacher, what evidence do they have of jesus shunning "bad associations"?
it seems to me, from reading the bible, that the religious people of his day really gave him a hard time, because he actually spent the majority of his time with "bad associates", rather than shunning them.
thomas, though he followed jesus, wasn't totally convinced.

Lilycurly
Well it doesn't, they just hope that the shunned persons will be so desperate to talk to their families again that they will be guilt-triped back into the congregation. And that...is real christian love for you.

Could he be DF??
by Lilycurly inlets say a father has an adult child that wrote a da letter.
they are not living under the same roof anymore, so, working with the wt's teachings the father don't speak to the daed person.
but he still continues to see the child regularly, going to the movies, eating at restaurants and sitting besides each other at family barbecues and gatterings.
-
Lilycurly
Yes, it's a complicated situation, with my mom and all and him being totally alone in the cult...(you are very good to remember details like that.)
I'm sure it's very awkward for him, and for the rest of us also...but I still feel it's very unfair to other JW parents who are forced to shun. I wouldn't dare asking the elders though...we've had trouble enough already dealing with my DA and all. I hate trouble. But we are still trying to find a solution to make my dad realise the funk he is in...

Ha! Yeah, weird is the word. (I would know...)But let's say the father gets found out, and he's been doing that for months and even years....so the elders would ask him about it...but the father is still a strong beleiving JW so he'd say he repents. Will all of it be forgotten on the spot? I mean, it was a repeated "sin", can it be seen as a momentary weakness, or is it more serious??
*Scully*---I guess this could apply, since he is the only JW in the whole family....but that is so unfair to other parents who must shun completly...(Loved your little article on the subject.)

In other words, doing everything like they used to be, only no talking involved.
Can this be cause for Disfellowshipping? Or can it be acceptable and seen as a matter of conscience.
