any holiday (vacation) experiences good or bad or just exciting you want to share?
my experience: a few years back i met two quite poor italian students in sardinia who couldn't buy a ferry ticket, i hid them in my camper van then went on the ferry boat and carried them over to the mainland without them having to pay anything.
they bought me a map of italy as a token of gratitude at livorno.

hi, i was just wondering what the jw's beliefs in evolution and the big bang were.
is there an official position on this?
i was reading the offiical website but i couldn't really find anything definite.
Big bang is accepted, although it is not a fact it is a theorie.
Evolution is of course out of the question (for JW's) that is.

i had a long talk with an elder i know very well this morning.
we had a talk about the religion changes, like the 1975 thing etc.
he agrees to me that the gb are not let only by holy spirit, maybe only that has a use for this organisation.
Personally, I wouldn't. How would shunning affect a man his age? Sorry to say, the dub life is the only life he knows and to lose that could have detrimental health affects. But on the flip side, I've seen people live past 100, he could have 30 "free" years left. It all depends on how mentally and physically strong his is.
I think he is actually free. Because he is thinking. As little toe says: what do yo give him back? Nothing, just emptyness. Now he is busy helping the people in the congregation. He does a lot of good there. What else is there to do if he doesn't have it anymore. Nothing. In my opinion it is better for him to be in the organization. His reasoning is maybe right. Maybe it is the religion closests to the teachings of the bible. (for me hard to say as I do not accept the devine autority of the bible) I think also it shows that if people are not just always so stupid and follow everything somebody says, the WTS would be much more okay. i do not have access right now to the watchtower cd library, could someone check and tell me what the watchotwer now says is the source for the great flood waters?.
do they still believe the theory of isaac vail that the waters came from above and that there was a water canopy in orbit about the earth?
or does the watchtower now say that the canopy was a vapor layer, not in orbit, but a simply above the atmosphere?.
But couldn't an Almighty God also remove all the traces of the global flood, so that all the self-conceited smarties couldn't know him 'cause the kingdom of God belongs to the lowely ones.
Yep,possible. It is also possible he created the world yesterday and created us with a memory of older things...

He did agree to me that quotes are taken out of its context that a mild form of brain washing takes place. We talked about dna evidence of evolution etc.
He thinks that the teachings of the WTS are the closest to the bible of all religions. He said to me that if this is not the truth then there is no truth.
He also told me that if there was no God (which he considered), live would be useless, and that is something he just would not want to accept. It would made him feel very bad. He thinks god used evolution or something like that.
Now some background. He is an elder, 72 years. Been in the truth since long and is a real good elder. Does a lot of good things in the cong. Really cares about the brothers and sisters. Is not afraid to differ in opinion with the CO or so.
I think I can confince him about more wrong of the WTS or the bible in general, but should I do this? It will for sure not make him happier, he is thinking enough for himself, he sur is no drone, but tries to make the best of it.
So, should I push him over the edge or not...

i've never understood something... all the political elbowing for superiority and right to brow beat the flock and have a facade of respect due to and unearned, but rather siezed position and the wts can't fix it with all the "provisions from j"?.
i've been to km school, read the "letters" from "mother" and sat through endlessly boring bickerfests meetings.
all the old timers and the politically motivated and upwardly mobile kiss asses ms and elders are in such a tizzy to go to these so they can have "one up-manship" over the rest of the flock (apparently being "in the know" is very titilating).. i remember that most of the counsel from the wts seemed "good", especially that geared toward how ms and elders should conduct themselves and treat the flock.
I'd like some of the "newer" ones to please reply...THX!
Alright then... In my opinion in most cong. there is always one elder who is really bossy, and likes the feel of autority. (if there are more then one, in a cong, the body is elders is not stable and it don't last long). Then there is one or two wh really mean it very good, and think about the hearts of the bro&sisters. They do research etc.
But they are never a mojority because the other elders do without thinking just what the PO (the bossy elder) says. If they vote, they just only follow suit.

thought i'd open up a new thread to discuss the benefits and downfalls of spelling reform.
"aoccdrnig to rscheearch at an elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, olny taht the frist and lsat ltteres are at the rghit pcleas.
the rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm.
he he he funny. Took some time before I saw that the sentence was not correctly.
Anyway I know only one language (that is english) where the spelling and pronounciation are so less correlated. It is quite strange english in fact..
i didn't, but i just saw a great program on pbs that was a "20 years later" follow-up on a documentary film from 1982 about dwarfs, that's what got me wonderin'.
I do know one who lives in holland somewhere. Do not see any relevance by the way...
.
does anyone have any experience with this or know what is happening?.

Today at lunch she ran into my room while I was getting ready for a b'day party. She was so exited when she said "mommy I saw Jesus and he had circles"( she drew the circles in the air) I repeated it back to her in a question and she answered "yes". I asked her where. She answered "on the sidewalk" I asked her if she would show me. She took me to the front door and she went outside and said "oh he is gone"
I phoned my husband to inform him of this so when he got home at about 5 O'clock he asked her if she saw Jesus today. She said "yes and he had circles and then he flew away and went to the light".
First she did not know that he was gone, later she replied that he flew away to the light. This is not consistent.
spirituality... is an "intangible".. the jw's are obsessed with measuring everything (like the pharisees).... time in the fs= spirituality.
meeting attendance= spirituality.
self sacrificing lifestyle= spirituality.
measuring = control
control = power
by the way, I do not think spirituality is inmeasurable as per definition.
