  last night, a brother gave a talk, and referenced the sun.

  in his talk he said two very interesting things:.

  "the largest star in the universe, the sun provides light to the farthest reaching corners of our galaxy.

  incidentally and ironically, it was the WTS idiot-science that was the first seed of doubt in my mind. from one of their own publications! the Creator book, ch.1, pg.9, par.3. i realized after reading that, that i had not been intellectually honest about my own belief system. so, i set out trying to prove it. the best mistake i ever made!

  Interesting, what is the point there?

  Sometimes it is so worse. Somebody in a talk wanted to prove that evolution was stupid. His reasoning: I went to the zoo last year and saw the apes, I went this year too. They were still apes and not humans. So this proves evolution is false.

  A funny thing - I used to really want a blonde child and I thought that if I died my hair and pubes blonde it would come out that way. I genuinely thought this was the case. I won;t say how old I was as that would add to the embarrassment.

  Just out of interest - why do you want to consume genetically modified food?

  It is not that I would prefer modified food, I would not have any problem with it. I would not mind eating it, as food there can be very little wrong with it either. I think that experiments with genetic modifications are very important for the future.

  Over millions of years our food and our animal life forms have adapted to each other. One survives out of using what the other has or does. When you skip the evolutionary process you may make an odd fit that upsets (and harms) the balance between the two life forms both vegetable and animal.

  Terry, that will still be the case of course. But we already control the evolutionary process in many ways. If we would cause a disbalance with genetic modification then I can probably be found by natural mutations also. It is just part of the process, only ascellerated.

  You can put all the parts of an alarm clock in a box and give them to somebody who doesn't quite understand clocks and tell them to assemble something. Do you think the result will be as useful as the clock was?

  If he does not try to assemble it, it surely is not. Only with experimenting he can get somewhere, and that is just the point. With enough experimenting and learning he is maybe even able to improve the clock.

  i'm all for it, on all three counts. and that's not to say that things couldn't get ugly. gattaca by gore vidal does a good job of illustrating possible scenario.

  might i also add, that we are already phenotypically modifying ourselves for extended life spans and better health etc. so a genotypical alteration seems like a natural next step, but also an unavoidable one.

  Tetra, as i noticed many times we have the same though pattern. The possibilities are so huge. We do not need the WTS for extended lifespans. The future can be bright and exciting

  at one of the last bookstudies i ever attended i heard a comment that really struck home to me how desperate these people really are getting, to the edge of insanity.

  an older woman commented, "you can tell the end is coming.. its in the air.. you can feel it.. there is something in the air.. times are just.. different" and the whole time she was manically glancing around the room.

  the conductor agreed with her.

  Meat eating preditors will eat grass like a lamb!

  i am always a little pi***d when i see jw illustrations showing lions and tigers in the close vacinity of samll children, lambs and other meaty treats with no safety barriers.

  [why this is paradise is beyound me - these anaimals smell].. so if we assume an intelligent creator, why would he create large meat eating preditors if he really ment them to eat grass?

  every thing about their make up is about specialistation, from teeth, to jaws, to how their stomachs work.

  This is actually a very good point because many JW's differ in the personal view of this from what the WTS says. Many say it is figurative. WTS says also real.
  Good thing for a smart of some conversations, as it can draw answers, and it is simple enough, even for dubs, to understand there is something wrong here.

  By giving more attention to the year 2034 they create a lot of time to come up with a better plan. I think that maybe some JW's have some feeling about 2014 but when put enough emphasis on the 120 years of preaching, the attention will shift.

  To add: that I do not think lying is good.

  But what is the definition of lying? If you tell something that is true but by doing this you know you give the other the wrong (untrue) thought?

  Yes, I lie sometimes

  Now, I be honest here (Ok, that is a kind of paradox of course here)

  Growing up in the 'truth' and don't want to make scenes etc, you live a double-life. This means a lot of lying. Got used to it.

  Did it ever bother you that Watchtower never did charitible works?

  i mean, for forty years believing the witness lie it always made me wonder.. judas was the keeper of the money box - and there are statements that indicated that the apostles thought that wasting money that could be used to aid the poor was sinful - so indications are that the earliest christians were doing charitible works.

  of course there are many scriptural passages that encourage that activity among believers.

  today all the organization ever does is pay lip service to charity.

  I always thought that by giving the WTS I was helping people (also not dubs).

  I never questioned the doctrine that it was not usefull to give donations. I think it was okay though to give donations to organisations that were none political. I did this openly, nobody questioned me.

  But things like UNICEF were a big NO, because that was part of the wicket United Nations

  Here in europe atheism is much more common then in America. It is considered 'weird' to believe in God here. Why is it in the states so much different?
