Has anyone on the face of the planet ever become a jw by reading a Bible without any jw litter-ature? Impossible. One cannot become a jw by reading a Bible alone.

Conversation with my Dad
by jeremiah18:5-10 inmy 73 yo dad called me tonight.
he had just returned from the convention.
he proceeded to tell me he can't believe that a smart and successful man like myself can be so dumb so as not to believe that jws have the truth.

Watchtower Doctrines JWs most commonly don't believe
by Diogenesister inthere was a recent thread on another site where posters maintained that many of the *most* long-standing jw's don't believe at least one official watchtower doctrine.
i've even read reports from bethelites saying they've heard bethel overseers say they don't believe some watchtower theology.
this made me think - i believe there are a few official doctrines that are common for many jw's to be either in denial about or simply not really believe ( often one and the same thing).. i'd say these are pretty high in the ranking:.

It frustrates me no end when I tell my jw a jw doctrine and he denies it! At times he will say 'we don't all believe that' or that it may be old light blah, blah, blah..... I then tell him HE has apostate leanings if he doesn't tow the company line! as well as any so called friends that feel the same way.

Land of the living dead
by hoser inone of my children got disfellowshipped recently.
i was worried about that some of my jw friends and jw relatives would mention it to me and it would make for awkward conversation as i am glad that he is out.
i went to a jw family gathering.

I'm sorry for your situation. I hope you continue a loving relationship with your child.
Any old timers here remember when someone got df'd and the dad put up a page on the internet complete with pictures as a memorial of sorts about the person? any non jw who would have seen this would have thought the person was dead not kicked out of a cult! sad that they do not allow natural affections.

Is there a risk using jw library app on cellphone
by Gorbatchov inthis is a question about the use of the jw library app on your cellphone.. the app is mainly used by jw and maybe interested people.
in this world of big data, and less privacy, any government can track users of this app.. it's no problem when there is nothing at stake.. but, many governments, even the more secular like france and germany, have made restrictions for jw's.. what if you are a government official and jw?
do you want to be tracked for being one?.

I'd rather have the ruskies tracking me than the jw's.

Starting To Wake Up
by Searching ini suppose after lurking around for a few weeks i thought i might share my own personal story, as i think it would probably be a very freeing experience for me right now.
to start off, at 23 years old i'm actually a third-generation jw, my grandparents were baptized (my grandfather is actually an elder) when my mother was only a toddler, she was raised as a witness, then of course, married a witness and thus myself and my two brothers were born-in's.
growing up my mother was always very careful about what she taught me, all the good things for sure, about how we would live in a paradise earth and i could pet all the animals that i wanted and not worry about growing old, and she'd ask me who in the bible i'd love to see and talk with - my grandparents however, were a different story and the cause of i think, most of my childhood trauma.. they really drilled home the fact that we were the only people who were going to be saved, we were the only people that were going to survive and that everyone else was going to die horribly - that i shouldn't try to make that many friends in school because they would never be "real" friends unless they were fellow jw's and they would die anyway.

Welcome! I wish you all the best on your new journey!
As for the 'name' of God, you may want to research that as well. Did you know it is a word made up by a Catholic monk by the name of Martini in about 1270?
Lots to learn about this organization you grew up in. I agree with previous posts and suggest you get Crisis of Conscious book and jwfacts is a great place for research too!

Are JWs "mind trained" to be habitual liars?
by nonjwspouse ini don't mean overly obvious, or otherwise meaning to cause harm, but taught to lie for the purpose of avoidance.
this type of lying can be pervasive in areas of life that are not just to avoid discussions with people who have questions about the jw, etc.
my husband will lie/be deceitful about the silliest, simple things.

When my jw first joined up he lied about the stupidest things!!!!!!! drove me & the kids absolutely crazy. He didn't consider it 'lies', just re-remembering (is that even a thing?) it differently. One of the kids actually started keeping a journal of his lies all to no avail, deny, deny, deny. It was usually about things he said but later claimed he would never say something like that. Don't have those 'jw discussions' and they don't need to lie or as much anyway.
How jw's perceive themselves as the most 'honest' people is beyond me. I don't know anybody outside of jw's that think they are honest especially at the doors when they will flat out lie to your face.

No go field service days
by Steel init's canada day today and not just any canada day, it's canada's 150 birthday.
for some strange reason i was actually able to reason with my wife day and she agreed with me.
field service on a special day wouldn't be appropriate.

How would a jw react if a Mormon or Evangelical group decided to knock on their door as they were getting ready to go to the memorial or other meeting? or if they were celebrating their non-Thanksgiving Thanksgiving meal with friends and family? damn hypocrites.
