lol ...if you are new here, you might not understand the question..
Yes, I liked the red dot!
we're currently watching leah remini's series about scientology and the main thing she seems to focus on is the shunning policies of the scientology organization which let's face it are very similar to jw procedure.. i was wondering with all that's in the media recently about bullying could a petition be put together to get the goverment to consider making religiously mandated shunning illegal?
has such a thing been tried before?.
https://petition.parliament.uk/help says the following - .
While you cannot regulate love, a petition could bring the policy of shunning by jw's to the public's attention. Make it very public. Not sure how UK laws work concerning human rights etc...
non jw so thank you for bearing with me.
do special talks happen with individual congregations or is it throughout?
i was told by my husband that i had to go with him and the rest of his family to the special talk that was happening this weekend.
Thanks Skepsis, I had forgotten this tradition after their annual reject Jesus memorial. Must be a senior moment?
surely the jaydubs have read these scriptures.. it seems pretty plain even in their own bible.. 2 first of all, then, i urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made concerning all sorts of men, 2 concerning kings and all those who are in high positions, so that we may go on leading a calm and quiet life with complete godly devotion and seriousness.+ 3 this is fine and acceptable in the sight of our savior, god,+ 4 whose will is that all sorts of people should be saved+ and come to an accurate knowledge of truth.
5 for there is one god,+ and one mediator+ between god and men,+ a man, christ jesus,+ 6 who gave himself a corresponding ransom for all —this is what is to be witnessed to in its own due time.. .
i looked up the word "intercession" and it is defined as.... intercession or intercessory prayer is the act of praying to a deity on behalf of others.. i looked for reference to this passage in the jw library and the article i found put the emphasis on "living a quiet calm life with seriousness and godly devotion".
I have asked my jw in the past if he prays for our leaders (President, congress, senate, local govt, etc..) using Romans 13:1-
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.-NIVand the 1 Tim. 2 scripture as quoted above (not from a wt bible, naturally)
His response? anger. I was surprised at that time he didn't pull out the gb blah, blah, blah. Though when he first joined the gb were not the rock stars they are today. His response was surprising to me and I think he had some cognitive dissonance going on therefore he could only respond with anger.

Is this during regular meeting time? or is it yet another way to get people to the kh at off meeting time? just a regular Sunday? thanks.
back in 2005, i remember sitting in the stadium in the special rows with 42 others.
8000 people were looking at us - maybe even with a binocular - while listening to the speech.
my family and my friends among them, being all proud of me.. i don't remember being enthusiastic.
"maybe even with a binocular" - do any of you find that a bit creepy? or is it just me?
perhaps i missed the comments, but i did not see a lot of comments from, or about, the memorial.
it happened last night, right?.
in years past the jwn board was hot with comments.
Perry,
"And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. Mt. 26: 27, 28"
Does the wt Bible leave out "all of you"?
i'm just thinking aloud here.
i watched a show yesterday and they were talking about how the largest mammals of the sea (whales) fed on such small creatures (plankton) rather than eating some other large creatures.
anyway, it got me thinking about how as jws we thought that in paradise animals would all be herbivores, that they would no longer eat other animals.
Don't they say satan made some of the things like mosquitoes just to mess things up for us? I thought my jw told me that was a theory once but he was a new jw at that time so maybe some random jw told him that theory (?)
the following is from a facebook post and..maybe i am missing something, but none of these items disprove them being in a cult.
jehovah's witnesses are often mistaken to be something else.
some say it a secret cult while others believe something else.......i'm very proud to tell you my readers that i'm one of jehovah's witnesses.. below are 17 facts that shows jehovah's witness is not a cult..... 1. there are currently about 8 million jehovah's witnesses around the world.. 2. an average of over 800 people become jehovah's witnesses daily.. 3. we keep coming to your doors even though we have regular jobs and family like you because we are admonished to do so by jesus christ.. 4. we do not participate in wars and for this reason more than 1600 jehovah's witnesses were killed by hitler.. 5. there are currently over 300 jehovah's witnesses in prison in south korea and egypt because they refused to stop preaching or enlist in the military.. 6. we don't salute the flag or say national anthems because we pledge our allegiance only to god.. 7. yes we have fun and party too so don't get that twisted.. 8. not many of us know the name of the president of our headquarters because we do not pay any reference to him he is a fellow servant of god just like the rest of us are.. 9. you earn the privilege of becoming a jehovah's witness.
Ok, I will feed the troll today. Here a just a few reasons why jw's are a cult- from Steve Hasaan bit model- learn more here https://freedomofmind.com/bite-model/
