1 Timothy 2 says to "Pray for Kings and those in high postitons". Why don't JWs do that?

Surely the JayDubs have read these scriptures.

It seems pretty plain even in their own bible.

2 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made concerning all sorts of men, 2 concerning kings and all those who are in high positions, so that we may go on leading a calm and quiet life with complete godly devotion and seriousness.+ 3 This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God,+ 4 whose will is that all sorts of people should be saved+ and come to an accurate knowledge of truth. 5 For there is one God,+ and one mediator+ between God and men,+ a man, Christ Jesus,+ 6 who gave himself a corresponding ransom for all —this is what is to be witnessed to in its own due time.

I looked up the word "intercession" and it is defined as...

Intercession or intercessory prayer is the act of praying to a deity on behalf of others.

I looked for reference to this passage in the JW library and the article I found put the emphasis on "living a quiet calm life with seriousness and godly devotion". As if that part of the scripture wasn't there.

I can't recall EVER hearing a prayer asking for Jehovah blessing and guidance to be upon the president, prime minister king or anything else. Well, maybe the slave.

Actually the WTS does say praying for the secular leaders to work with the WTS is something for members to do.

We can also pray for the authorities to be favorably disposed toward the preaching work, “so that we may go on leading a calm and quiet life.”—1Ti 2:1, 2.

I think you nailed it once again Outlaw.

    Blondie...thanks for the links.

They pretty much prove my point. JWs don't pray or make intercessions for anyone unless it's for the good of the congregation only.

Surely NOT hat Paul had in mind!

I have asked my jw in the past if he prays for our leaders (President, congress, senate, local govt, etc..) using Romans 13:1-

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.-NIV

and the 1 Tim. 2 scripture as quoted above (not from a wt bible, naturally)

His response? anger. I was surprised at that time he didn't pull out the gb blah, blah, blah. Though when he first joined the gb were not the rock stars they are today. His response was surprising to me and I think he had some cognitive dissonance going on therefore he could only respond with anger.
