The comment that if you don't preach you are not a Witness can be taken two ways- can be taken to mean you are bad association/not a real witness (as it currently means) or could be taken to mean df- no longer one of JW's. It is wait and see...

W-commander, I do not see a softening by the GB in anything at all- I see them as wrose. I see an increase in paranoia, an increase in guilt-tripping and demanding of unquestioning obedience. I see a reinforcing of one not being a real Witness if they don't preach- but not something where it becomes a df offense. I am not defeding them at all- you have never seen me do that...I recognize them as an evil cult...but I just don't see them making inactivity leading to dfing. I see them reinforcing bad association though.

I see a pushing of service and of course the blind obedience to the GB..but what is different about the following statement than anything in the past:
"Just as tithing was compulsory for the Jews, field service is now for JW's."??
It has always been compulsory. I remember an elder years ago saying "Who has ever heard of a mute witness? If you do not tell others about God's kingdom you are not a Witness."
I ee a tightening of the reins and increasing of the guilt-trips...but seems to me like a leap to say inactivity will lead to dfing. It would make an inactive person much less likely to return as well.

This is wild speculation. The notion of service being compulsory to a JW is not new...neither is pushing it hard. It is called guilt-tripping. It has always been taught, and been hte prevailing attitude that a JW who doesn't go out (and is able to do so) is not really a Witness.

Latest Special Talk in Australia
by jwfacts inno, i don't mean the visit by oprah.. there was a special talk on sunday relayed to all the aussie congs from sydney.
apparently the speaker had an american accent, but was stationed in a latin american country.
he was really pushing field service and pulled out the old one that: if you do not witness you are not one of jehovah's witnesses.

This is not really anything new...it was always an attitude that if one does not go out they are a Witness in name only. I doubt they will df one for inactivity...just more guilt-tripping.

If society UPHELD the pagan origins of umbrellas would the R and F obey?
by Botzwana inif the society said that umbrellas were indeed pagan, because their origins are, and you would be dfed if you used one do you think the rank and file would obey?
or do you think that would push them over the edge?
i can just see the wealthy witness woman you know, the real pretentious ones not going out when it rains etc..

My reply: This was simply a repitition of Lev 17 and 18- guidelines for non-Jews lving in the land of Israel to abide by. The newly converted gentiles were being asked to do the same...the term rendered fornication here is defined in Lev 18. It is not speaking of pre-marital sex as Reniaa wrongly stated, but rather marriages to close relatives- forbidden under Jewish law and considered fornication. The guidleines on blood were not put on the same level as immorality as the org erroneously asserts. All dietary laws ended as the Jews were no longer under the law...including blood. Acts 15 is not a new law....but simply a request to make the inclusion of gentiles into the fold more palatable to the Jews.

it was a wealthy (she drove a lexus and was very well dressed) middle aged woman with a younger girl.
she used the typical line this time of year asking if i knew where the origins of christmas came from.
