If you were STILL a JW where would you be now?

Attending AA meetings, or laying up on the couch every night drunk...no joke, was well on my way to having a drinking problem. Be the age I am now and single, eyeballing the sisters, because any marriage I had would have failed. Living in fear that whatever secret life I constructed would be found out. Dying alone, no family, no friends and on and on. I shudder to think how wretched my life could have been.
Well, that's not how it went...I've lived the good and the bad out in the world...wouldn't trade it for one single day of Watchtower living.

Learning surprising things about the jws
by greendawn inafter you left the jws and entered your post wts era what sort of things did you learn about them that you found surprising?
there are some recent jws that haven't even heard of russell or even rutherford let alone of their objectionable conduct especially that of rutherford.
or they don't know anything about malawi and mexico, the ray franz incident and the witchhunt of the early 80's, or the organ transplant ban.

Knew about Beth Sarim, and that other house in California...Rutherford's drinking...his body guards...his iron fist rule...all from old timers who didn't seem to be in awe of the WTBTS, at least to me they didn't...especially if of the annointed. How things were handled in Mexico was related by Spanish brothers, appeared to be common knowledge among Latino's. But it was Franz's COC book that brought it all togather and set everything in perspective.

Respected in the JW community
by greendawn inbefore leaving the org were you considered to be a respected member of the jw community?
if you felt that you were, did this make it harder to leave and lose any sense of recognition and importance you enjoyed there?

Tell the truth, can't really remember.I was being groomed for an MS position when the floor fell through.Choosing between my wife and the WT was a no brainer. I chose her. Getting untangled from the Witness life was hard, took about six years.

20 years ago..a talk concerning field service..sisters crying..eyes opened
by confusedjw inwell i can't recall now which public talks it was - one of my first - and it dealt with field service / preaching.
so i thought i would interview several people in the congregation about service and their thoughts and feelings on the subject, expecting something very different than what i got.
to my shock (i was an over zealous young buck who thought the sun rose and set on the wt) three sisters burst into tears as they told about their feelings of inadequacy and guilt over field service.

Give me a phone or put me in a group of people and I have no problem....Put a peice of paper in front of me or typing on these posts and I go blank.
Weird huh?.... Tweety
Not weird at all, I'm the same way.
Never bothered me much,,,more offten than not found it to be boring, since there was some silly rule about knocking doors by yourself, in order to make more calls in the time spent. Never knew if that was a local rule or came from on high.
As for others...I've seen people faint from fear when giving a presentation at the MS, or be so overcome in FS they would throw up in a householders flower bed. Sad what some froced themselves to do, just to hawk a few measly mags and cheaply printed books. all in the name of God...what a joke.

Contradiction and Confutation a Topic.
by Blueblades inwhen you read other topics on here, do you feel that you have to condradict and confute the person or the subject matter or both, the person and the subject matter?
or, do you kindly direct a misinformed person to the right thinking on the topic posted by such person?
do you just believe and take for granted what a popular poster may write for their topic, or do you still weigh and consider no matter who it is that writes a topic for us to read?

The latter, no matter the poster, or subject. Although I have strong personel opinions, on certain topics, I work hard to be open minded and would dialouge with anyone, unless it turned into one of those wall banging arguments, then I'd drop out. There is no value in going around in circles.
