ithinkisee beat me too it. I've heard from all that have been to it, the DC all but says secular education and a "consuming" career is wrong. You have to remember, dub's try to be very careful with what they say so things don't can back and bite them in the ass. They would never say college and a career is wrong, BUT they are very successful in making you feel guilty as hell if you do. They constantly teach, although such things are not wrong in onto themselves, if you do, you simply can not be putting "kingdom interests" first. That's the game they play with all "conscience matters", if you arrive at a conclusion they do not like, you will hear about it. And 10, for the record, Sirona hit the nail on the head.

Can someone help me to understand?
by hiccup ini am very new to this whole "religion" and although i have pulled up some information on jehovah's witnesses, i can't seem to get my arms around it.
the reason i have come here is because my father has been doing bible studies and readings for about 2 years now and over the last 6 months to a year he has been someone very different from who i used to know.
it all started with a near fatal car accident and then with my sister getting involved with drugs and running away with her boyfriend.

Meat eating preditors will eat grass like a lamb!
by jimakazi ini am always a little pi***d when i see jw illustrations showing lions and tigers in the close vacinity of samll children, lambs and other meaty treats with no safety barriers.
[why this is paradise is beyound me - these anaimals smell].. so if we assume an intelligent creator, why would he create large meat eating preditors if he really ment them to eat grass?
every thing about their make up is about specialistation, from teeth, to jaws, to how their stomachs work.

I love how the articles say to "not pay much attention" to these things.
Same as saying "don't worry about the man behind the curtain!!" Pretty funny how they skate by some topics.

I have to agree with Blondie. Over the years the changes have been really subtle. And those subtle changes will continue. But fixing its doctrinal problems would mean changing the very backbone of the religion. The main thing that comes to mind is 1914, which totally hangs on 607BC. Topics like that they simply con not change. So I think it will most likely die out once the remaining GB start dying out.

The thing is, JW's claim they are the only ones that literally and totally follow the bible, but then they pick and choose what is and what isn't to be taken literal.

Did Gentile Christians celebrate holidays and stuff? Evidence?
by ithinkisee indoes anyone have some good references i can look up on some specific differences between gentile and jewish christians in the first century?.
the reason i ask is because i get the impression from the scriptures that the gentile christians probably even celebrated worldly holidays and attended pagan festivals still - while the jewish christians did not.
perhaps they even looked and dressed differently.

*** w96 7/15 pp. 19-20 Maintain Unity in These Last Days ***
16 We can help to maintain Christian unity even when making a decision that is totally personal and neither right nor wrong Scripturally. How so? By showing loving concern for others who may be affected by our decision. To illustrate: In the congregation in ancient Corinth, a question arose regarding meat sacrificed to idols. Of course, a Christian would not participate in an idolatrous ceremony. However, it was not sinful to eat properly bled leftover meat of this kind that was sold in a public market. (Acts 15:28, 29; 1 Corinthians 10:25) Nevertheless, the consciences of some Christians were troubled over the eating of this meat. Paul therefore urged other Christians to avoid stumbling them. In fact, he wrote: “If food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat flesh at all, that I may not make my brother stumble.” (1 Corinthians 8:13) So even if no Bible law or principle is involved, how loving it is to consider others when making personal decisions that could affect the unity of God’s family!
*** w89 4/1 p. 13 Hear What the Spirit Says to the Congregations ***
12 Jesus also warned the congregation in Pergamum against those “holding fast the teaching of Balaam.” (Revelation 2:14) What teaching was this? Someone in Pergamum was corrupting Christians there in the same way that Balaam corrupted the Israelites in the wilderness: by encouraging them “to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit fornication.” (Numbers 25:1-5; 31:8) Jesus warned the congregation in Thyatira against “that woman Jezebel.” This woman too was teaching Christians “to commit fornication and to eat things sacrificed to idols.” (Revelation 2:20) Has Satan tried to introduce a Balaam or a Jezebel influence into the Christian congregation today? He certainly has, to the extent that almost 40,000 a year are disfellowshipped, most because of immorality. What a tragedy! Both Balaam-like men and Jezebel-like women have rebelled against the elders and tried to corrupt the congregation. May we resist such unclean influences with all our might!—1 Corinthians 6:18; 1 John 5:21.
That's a little I found on what you mentioned Classicist

In all my years as a JW, I lost count how many times that has changed. Resurrection of all right after the big A, then only some and the rest will follow but only a few at a time so the Earth isn't overloading to fast, then no one till after the 1000 year reign, then all after 1000 years, then some after a 1000 years...........all this "new light" really is hard to keep tract of!!

Little side note that I always thought was funny. Jesus said, "pray then this way..." and the dub's say "pray like that, but not exactly like that." Which is it? Pray this way or not exactly this way? The more I continune my journey, moving away from the dub's, I'm starting to question all religions.

Them thinking that pioneering is equal to my full time job!
by LongHairGal inthis was a topic that annoyed me and i got into a bit of an argument years ago over this.. some sister (who never worked a day in her life i might add) with the cushy life, affluent husband thought that because she pioneered it was equal to me having a full time secular job.
there were others there who naively thought the same thing.
somehow i gave them an inferiority complex because i worked so they had to dream this up to make themselves feel better.. while i agree that someone who pioneers may be physically tired at the end of the day, there is no comparison to what i have to deal with in going to and from and being on a full time job.

Well, back in my hard-core dub days I had some pretty close pioneer friends. I can't count how many hours were counted on say fishing trips. They would bring someone not-baptized on purpose and "share" a few thoughts, count the time. Or how many hours we spent zig-zagging the city, do a call on the south side, then one on the north side, then one on the west side, then back to the south side.....you get the picture. Even my mom has told me about the "pioneer shuffle" and other tricks like doing a call BEFORE the group meets in the morning and keep the clock running just to get your time started. Geeezzz, I wish my job was like that!!!!
