I'll go with Category 1 Alex, for my life
Would it not be maddening to know all and not be able to tell anyone?
;)
suppose the following choice were offered you, and you had to choose one or the other.
which would you pick (and perhaps why):.
1) you can continue living your life as it is, die when you might, and that's that.. 2) you can instead agree to die in 1 year in exchange for this: you will be granted access to the entire past and future history of intelligent life in the universe.

King Arthur: Brother Maynard, bring out the Holy Hand Grenade!
[Holding the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch]
King Arthur: How does it... um... how does it work?
Sir Lancelot: I know not, my liege.
King Arthur: Consult the Book of Armaments.
Brother Maynard: Armaments, chapter two, verses nine through twenty-one.
Cleric: [reading] And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the Lord did grin. And the people did feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats, and large chu...
Brother Maynard: Skip a bit, Brother...
Cleric: And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.
Brother Maynard: Amen.
All: Amen.
King Arthur: Right. One... two... five!
Galahad: Three, sir.
King Arthur: Three!

I'm not sure which is worse.. a superior arrogant, smug 'I'm right your wrong' atheist or a superior arrogant smug 'I'm right your wrong' Christian. Both extremes are unpleasant
Agreed
1- pray to god (whomever you may imagine him to be) asking for understanding.
2- study the background about the bible (from non-religious sources) to see where it came from.
3- discard (or at least set aside) chuyrch claims and dogma.. 4- read it, looking up archaeological/historical sources about the places and peoples referred to.
OP
eh, whatever
last notice for a new documentary produced for television on id discovery channel, based on jim kostelniuk's book, wolves among sheep: the true story of murder in a jehovahs witness community.. .
deadly devotion season 2:.
witness to murder.
I thought the episode was rather well done overall
Such a tragedy
the wife and i had a argument of all things, the correct way.
to peel an egg.. i'm making tuna salad and she comes up.
and looking over my shoulder, "you know that's not the correct.
"wtf a membrane? It's an egg. Eat it or starve"
lol
...did you also toss your Faith as well?
Not initially. It was a bit of a journey.
i know this has been talked about in the past but im new here..
As has been mentioned or alluded to, there is some good in everything. Not every person who believes in the jw faith is evil.
For those whom the world had forsaken from the beginning, it is a path to something where there was nothing.
It is not the only path, nor is it mine but it is for some.
And it is beyond my control
i'll start by saying, i'm a ministerial servant who is trapped in the religion.
my wife is hardcore...but i've slowly been getting her to lighten up, so i'll take it!
all my friends and family are jw's, and i am employed by a jw (who is actually a great boss).
Do you ever look back and wonder "what if"?
Sure, sometimes. Most people do.
What if the god of the bible is real?
If he/she/it is, it ain't a god worth worshipping IMO. Like most gods, they are a reflection of the writer and/or religious beliefs of the time.
What if there is a creator who is not the god of the bible?
Slightly more appealing but just as unlikely for the same reasons.
No afterlife? Did you have to get over this fact or was it pretty easy for you?
It was pretty easy to accept my mortality actually. Carpe diem.
apparently, the carvakas in anceint hinduism were materialists and skeptics, arguing that consciousness ends with the death of the body and that therefore we should take pleasure in this life while we possess it and practice compassion toward others.
they also argued that direct observation is the only certain way to know anything, and thus the existence of supernatural forces and realities cannot be established and must be rejected.
Does consciousness end with the death of the body?
Since consciousness is a function of the brain, it would follow that consciousness ends with brain death.
Anything more is unsubstantiated theory and/or belief in magic
