  Daily reading book-don't know the formal name.

  i haven't picked up any publication of my husband's for a long time.

  this morning i was up early, and decided to take a look at today's reading, as the book is always on the kitchen table.

  sorry i don't remember the name of the book (daily reading??).

  I only got to see the daily text book once, at this years memorial, my first and only visit to a Kingdom Hall. Frankly I was offended!

  This was a day especially set aside to remember Jesus Christ for the ransom sacrifice he made as the only mediator between God and men. But the text of the day was not about the Christ, but was about the people who falsely claim to be a faithful & discreet slave. Even on that day they stole the limelight. They are a false mediator; a false Christ.

  We were warned of false Christ's at Luke 21:8. When Christ foretold the coming of false Messiahs, he spoke also of men who would come saying: the time is very near now, and he counselled never follow men like that. Do you know of anyone who fits this description?

  A disturbing phone call

  i took a call from my best friends son tonight.

  i am his godfather and watched him grow but i am his dads friend (calls me uncle) and thats the first time he ever phoned me.

  he has just been offered a job where i work.

  Father SHUNNED his daughter after becoming a JW ?????????????????

  this was 10 yrs ago shes now almost 16 and very confused , her father wont call her or talk to her and hasnt had any contact with her .

  i heard it was a sin for them to do that .

  he remarried and adopted his new wifes child a bastard with no dad and disowed his only child .

  I am sorry to read about your daughters situation. I too am not a JW but my lifelong friends have just joined this cult which promotes its doctrine of hate and fear. I found this JW discussion group whicjh has provided friendship and advice in great measure. My best friends sons want me to help them get their old parents back - if only I could get through to them. They are under mind control rather than brainwashing.

  I took a call from my best friends son tonight. I am his godfather and watched him grow but I am his dads friend (calls me uncle) and thats the first time he ever phoned me. He has just been offered a job where I work. He opened up to me about the way his parents have very little time for him and his brother since becoming JWs, or even his new baby son. He is deeply hurt. He was also upset that his mother has hardly visited her own eldery mum during a recent illness, too busy knocking on strangers doors. He's mostly concerned about his 16 year old sister who also attends KH with mum and dad.

  I told him that I am now studying with witnesses with a purpose - to try to influence his parents, and he was heartened to learn I was on his side. I want to help this family whom I have known all my life. I am so angry tonight. I must calmly review my tactics.

  I won't be posting for a few days as I have to go in for some surgery tomorrow (I'm such a coward!). I'll be thinking about all the help you have given me and how I might put the advice I get to good use for this young man and his family. I had hardly heard of the Watchtower last summer. This is all like a bad dream. Take care all, I will be in touch next week.

  please help with translation

  i have tried everywhere, searched the net, translation forums, googled.....you name it.. i am hoping that someone here might be able to help me or at least point me in the right direction.. i am looking for a translation of john 8:7. i am looking for the phrase "let the one among you without sin cast the first stone".

  here is the catch, i want it in either aramaic or hebrew.

  i love that verse, and it means a lot to me.

  Narkissos always comes up with excellent stuff!! The Hebrew font looks good, but if you want authenticity, then the originals, and the most ancient manuscripts were written in Greek.

  What makes me smile is when I look at the Kingdom Interlinear J - references for the New Testamant, and they plainly reveal that the modern translations into Hebrew that they love to rely on (at least for the insertion of the Divine Name) were translated from the original Greek by Trinitarians, into Hebrew quite recently. This is what the Watchtower considers more reliable than the ancient manuscripts these copies were actually made from. Bizarre!?

  How Do YOU Feel Knowing That YOU Were In A Cult?

  for years, i refused to think of the witnesses as a "cult".

  too harsh and restrictive of a word for me......but there is no denying that we were all in a mind controlling cult.

  are you embarrassed or uncomfortable knowing that you belonged to a cult just like the moonies and the branch davidians are/werw a cult?

  I leep changing my mind on this one, but on balance I would say yes, but not one of the most extreme.

  I was once a SDA which I firmly believe was not a cult. I just assumed JWs were something very similar and therefore did not spot the danger soon enough to warn my friends. By the time I found out how JWs really operate it was too late. It pains me to watch dear friends slipping deeper and deeper daily into this cult.

  If only I had met you folks a year ago.

  As an SDA was taught it would but I didn't really believe this, even though those around me seemed to. I remember the name of a touring choir in 1971 was called The Last Generation Choir. I wonder if they are all grandparents now. I went along with it. If anything I believed there was a chance that the world's end or Armageddon, or whatever would come about through nuclear war, or some natural extinction event.

  AnnOmallys post prompts some questions about the lack of references to loving Jesus unless Jesus=Jehovah.

  Perhaps many of the references to Lord in the New Testament are references to Jesus, not Jehovah? After all, one man - Fred Franz - was responsible for inserting the name Jehovah in 237 places where it does not exist in a single ancient manuscript of the Christian Greek Scriptures.

  I recently learned (by following up Kingdom Interlinear J-References) that Jehovah references came from modern trinitarian hebrew translations. The ancient manuscripts do not contain the Divine name AT ALL and the original authors never used it. Heck many whole books, even in NWT don't contain it at all. For those who believe the Bible is inspired, what does that tell us about the nature or importance of Jehovah/Jesus.

  How many times does Jesus name appear in NT (nearly 1000) And Jehovah (zero) except in NWT (237).

  BTW, many Christians (myself included) may not be trinitarians, yet still believe Jesus was more than just a man. Why else would even Witnesses have worshiped him in days gone by?

  I've always believed the story was based on some localised flood, which appeared to affect the then known world. The story was perhaps like a parable, with the mesage more important than accuracy. Isn't that the case with much of the Old Testament. From being about 9 year old I knew enough about the world to know the Bible couldn't be taken literally. Like the devil being a fallen angel and such catholic nonsense, just my opinion.

  For some to abandon a literal understanding of the whole Bible is too big a step to take. Where would such thinking stop? That's a good question which can move us out of our comfort zone.
