  hey guys,.

  i am new here and have been for some time now trying to find a jw who is a jw, not someone who was.

  i am trying to find out the core beliefs of the jw organization, where do they stand on i guess salvation, heaven, hell, judgement, what happens after you die, jesus christ, the cross, etc.

  Hello and welcome. I've never been a JW but there are both active and ex JWs on here, as well as many other folks.

  I knew nothing about JWs 6 months ago, but am learning much from this board, JW information sites such as freeminds.org etc. and others have a wealth of information.

  I am learning mostly the painful way ie by watching loved ones get drawn further and further into something which is seriously damaging their emotional and physical wellbeing. I am discovering things too late, as they are no longer capable of hearing my voice. That is because my lifetime friends have learned that I am being controlled by Satan and evil apostates (ie anyone who posts on this site - so that includes you now). LOL,

  You'll pick up lots of information from people on here. Good to have you on board.

  Why were apocalyptic books included in the NT canon?

  all right folks -- especially you scholarly ones -- let me state a question i've been having: .

  from my understanding of christian history the proto-catholic church selected the books to be included in the nt canon after the first century was concluded (nt canon finalized in mid 2nd century?).

  included in this canon were books which include some apocalyptic sayings of jesus (especially in mark) that obviously were not fulfilled, such as mark 9:1 "truly i say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of god has come with power.

  Thanks Narkissos, I knew I could rely on you. Pardon my lack of education but are you saying that...even between the synoptic gospels, there are different understandings by the authors about what was meant by the "Son of Man coming..."?

  Was Matthew's gospel written in Hebrew, unlike the rest of the new testament (as an elder told me last week)?

  By a "no show" I mean like being "stood up" One makes a date or an appointment and the other person doesn't turn up, at least not at the promised time (in this case 2000 years late and counting..)

  I'm fascinated by this discussion.

  Is the concensus on this board that this was a no show in the Apostolic generation rendering Scriptures erroneous?

  Is there an 'orthodox' Christian view on this?

  What is latest Watchtower teaching on this?

  Any other theories?

  Calling All Ex Witnesses

  i met someone online who has apparently turned out to be a good associate of mine.

  however, she has informed me that though she has her own beliefs and hates religion itself, she does like to get different perspectives on what people believe.

  watching the wedding of charles and camilla (chuck and cam to those in rio linda) ... i became curious about queen elizabeth.

  she became queen in 1953 when i was two years old.

  so, i went to the official website of the british monarchy at: http://www.royal.gov.uk/output/page1.asp and read up on her.. .

  Nice picture of young Lizzie & really interesting about your family history. But as for the Royals, nothing against them on a personal level but I'd rather look up to people who are worthy of it. That excludes our Royal family in my eyes. I find my next door neighbour of more interest.

  Apostates' Idealised Image of their Time as a Witness

  i know some apostates become bitter and can see nothing good in their time spent as witnesses, but i am not talking about that kind of apostate.

  i am talking about the other kind of apostate who tends to idealise certain aspects of their time in the witnesses.

  what motivates such sentiments i wonder?

  Slim,

  One day we will all notice that you have stopped using the name "apostate".

  There is the Biblical definition ie renouncing faith in Jesus Christ as the saviour of all and the only mediator between God and humanity. There is the dictionary definition of renouncing any religious beliefs previously held. There is the Watchtower definition which seems to be anyone who no longer believes that what they teach is the truth.

  When you feel able never again to use that word, perhaps you will be free.

  They have trained you so well, what with trigger words and all, that get a reflex response, like Pavlov's dog seeing the food and ...
