i would like to here your opinions about ae even if you don't know much about him,, what do you think about him according to what limited knowledge you have of him.
i think this would be fun for our imagination.
i bet those that have a mystical nature might have some interesting things to say as well as you science buffs.. i think he was very introverted,,had great intuitions,, a very lively imagination,,and had perhaps experinced enlightenment perhaps not as much as some mystics but quite abit atleast that's what i gather from the recient thread i started which has some quotes of his ideas about spirituality.

My friends who say they don't believe in science are just proving they don't understand the meaning of the word. It isn't one thing, like a religion that you accept or reject.
Science bored me at school, but when I read the first few chapters of Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time" especially the bits about Newton & Einstein, I realised that it is often just a way of explaining reality, as best a human can.
Hawking's most advanced ideas or theories have been overshadowed by newer ones. Science neither proves nor disproves God, religion or Christianity, but can aid our understanding of all three.
Einstein's greatest mistake was when he adjusted his thinking to match religious indoctrination that he could not shed.
What I liked most is that ideas like relativity are quite simple and even obvious, but only after a genius has seen them first and shows us.
i find the topic of the 1975 end of the world scenario facinating, especially since i never lived through it.
do you old schoolers ever feel concerned that people will one day forget about what really went down?
with whitewashed tripe like the 'proclaimers' book informing dubs that it was just the false expectations of over enthusiastic apostates, are you at all concerned that the legacy of bullshit that is 1975 will be a forgotten moment in history blamed on you instead where the blame really belongs?
My friends are newly JWs and have very little knowledge of anything pre-1995. They were interested & studying for 2 years before they started to believe there was ever a 1975 issue, let alone any other stuff.

i was in the "truth" for 5 or 6 years...i asked many pioneers, elders, other brothers and sisters...all of them really confused...one elder told me it had sumthing to do with one of daniel's prophecy's??.
can someone explain to me fully about the "1914" situation??
Just smiling to myself to remember old Watchtower quotes:
eg when they said 1914 was proved, because not only could you calculate that from Daniel, but CT Russell had personally measured the main passage in the Great Pyramid at Giza, Egypt whicc measured the same number of yards. A match of different sources was proof indeed. Russell said the pyramids were inspired by God. But then Rutherford said they were the work of the Devil.
You'd think the Watchtower would at least know the difference between God and Satan. Faithful & discreet indeed.
I'm laughing out loud now as I remember another date prediction based on the measured distance to walk between the main Bethel HQ to the printing presses.
what is the profit of man if he gains the whole world but looses his soul.
.
or some variation on that as im probly getting it wrong
Thanks K,
Now you've helped me find it, I note it is a quotation from Hebrew scriptures.
Hey I'm visiting Florida in October, hope its still quite hot then, my good wife is a bit of a sun worshiper lol.
[i]i wasn't sure where to post my introduction, so i am going to put it here.
if any admins or mods feel it should be moved, please do so.
i found this forum linked from http://members.aol.com/beyondjw/bj.htm, a jehovah's witnesses recovery site.
Hi Sabrina, and a warm welcome.
The bigger follow up book (in search of Christian freedom) is also wonderful.
I've never been a JW, but my best freind is due to be baptised soon after a life without religion. That's why I'm on here, so one day I might be able to help him, & is kids. My kids are 15 and 11, and I tell them bits of the truth about the truth when they ask questions like how come uncle **** doesn't like xmas or birthdays anymore etc.

1914 didn't come from Russell. Below is a bit of my long & boring post above.
However, the details of the origins of the 1914 date were published by outside sources in 10 years later (1983). As a result, the Watchtower Society then formally acknowledged the calculation had originated with Brown in 1823 (50 years before Russell appeared on the scene).
hi--i can't seem to add a little picture like the rest of you have and i'm feeling left out.
can someone tell me step-by-step how to do it?
i tried using clipart but i can't get it to work.
It took me a couple of days, then it suddenly appeared just when I thought I'd done something wrong. It may arrive before Armageddon.
it's been roughly ten years since the change in the understanding of the generation was printed in a november watchtower.. while i won't discuss here what everyone already knows about this change, and the effects it had on many people, questions have to be asked.. what happens next for the watchtower society?
where is the leadership?.
in what direction are they headed?.

The Daniel book never did teach anything about 1914. 1914 was just one of many dates that people (including many long before JWs) have been wrongly guessing Daniel might refer to. None of the dates turned out to be right because the methods, used for centuries are simply wrong.
i would like to know how the study starts...... what kind of information is given to the potential new convert when he / she starts studying with j.w.
's., lesson to lesson.. what is taught in the first few "lessons".. when the brainwashing starts to be taught.
how many lessons it takes to convince the student that the w.t.
Here is the start of a lengthy article. If you want the whole document, please pm me with an email address & I;ll send.
This article will be examining the following processes:
I will say very little about the validity of the doctrine of the Watchtower Society. This has been discussed in great detail elsewhere.
AUDIENCE: This article was written for people who have been approached by the Witnesses and want to know what to expect. It may also interest people who are already Witnesses and are starting to wonder why they joined.
At the Door and Into the Home |
It's a quiet Saturday afternoon. You're sitting in your favourite chair, reading the newspaper. The doorbell rings. You answer it and encounter two bright-faced people. They're well dressed, and each carries a briefcase. For a moment you think they're going to sell you life insurance, but they seem too cheerful for that.
You guess that they must be Jehovah's Witnesses, and sure enough they start talking about a wondrous hope for the future. They don't actually say they're Witnesses, but when one of them whisks out a Bible you can see some copies of the Watchtower magazine in his briefcase.
