by AndersonsInfo inmany people that post or lurk here at jwn are too young to remember some of the huge international conventions jws held many years ago, but probably have seen impressive photos such as of the 1958 eight-day convention held simultaneously at new yorks yankee stadium and polo grounds.
especially remarkable was the tremendous newspaper coverage of that assembly and other special conventions held in the 1940s and 50s in the united states.
yesterday, when i downloaded somebodys old scrapbook full of long-ago newspaper articles, http://www.archive.org/details/watchtowernewsscrapbook,reporting on jehovahs witnesses so-called international conventions, i couldnt help but remember what i wrote regarding extraordinary newspaper convention coverage in my www.freeminds.org article, how jehovahs witnesses watchtower religion impacted my family history, part 3 and thought id share the information here on jwn for those who are not familiar with how such wonderful coverage came about.

a priest in eastern europe has been accused of drowning a baby boy as he baptised him.. police are investigating father valentin for accidential homicide after witnesses at the ceremony said the priest did not cover the baby's mouth during the ritual, the sun newspaper reports.. father valentin had denied being responsible for the baby's death during the baptism in moldova.. the six-week-old baby died on the way to hospital and an autopsy found he had drowned, the baby's dad dumitru gaidau told romania's publica tv.. mr gaidau, 36, said his son was clearly in distress during the ceremony.. "he couldn't inhale, his face turned blue and he was foaming at the mouth.
he [the priest] said we should not interrupt this their ritual," he said.. "we couldn't believe it that he just put his hand over his belly and over the head and submerged him three times in the water.".

I've never known of a Catholic baptism to be submerging a baby in water; it has always been a sprinkling of water on the baby's forehead. Is this father Valentin a Catholic priest?

I was raised Catholic. At age 13 I became completely disillusioned with Catholicism and left all contact with it. At age 18 I met Jehovahs Witnesses. I was told about the new system of living on earth (which alwasys appealed to me) and it seemed to be much less of an organized religion. I had never read a bible and I was very impressed with their expertise. Not to mention the fact that this new system would be arriving in my time as one of the other sheep. Thus, I swallowed it hook, line and sinker.

What Ever Attracted You To The Witnesses In The First Place?

the thought of living forever and never dying was certainly a draw but when i realized it wasn't true, there wasn't much of an attraction anymore.. what attracted you as a witness?.

I need help regarding Michael's Jackson JW past...
by JustHuman14 inguys i really got some trouble here in greece with some jw's who claim that m.j was never a jw.
they even claim that reporters and media are trying to create negative inviroment against jw's by saying that michael was a jw.. so you guys in u.s.a can you give me some links, or copies of u.s newspapers and media that show exactly the opposite..... thanks guys for your help.

Thank you so much for that exerpt! What an eye opener. I will print this and show it to those who don't know about the JW's. I am not surprised at their mother's behavior however. It was my experience to find that element of domination among the JW wives who were supposed to be in submission to their husbands, all the while playing the submissive role while using their guile to get their own way and dominate the family.

I read all of the solutions. Thanks for all the advice. I have been inundated with mice in my house for the last month. They get in my dressers and I have to wash everything repeatedly. What a nuisance! My cat died four months ago and since his demise the mice have taken over. One of them (maybe even two) died in my bedroom wall as a result of my having used D-Con. I'll never use it again. I really don't want to hurt them because I know they don't mean me any harm - but they bring diseases so I guess I will get another cat. It seems that a cat is the way to go.
