They said the reason they were cutting the literature was to focus on the "digital future". If they're now cutting down the digital output as well, what does that mean? They're just plain lazy? Out of ideas? Out of money? Or all three.

Monthly Broadcast Change
by Brian J inthe mind numbing gilead graduation part 1/part 2 will now replace the usually fast moving, lets get this family worship over with, monthly broadcasts several times a year.
praise jehovah for giving us 7 men, who put their underwear on one leg at a time like the rest of us, to help us keep pace with god's sovereign and celestial chariot.

Russells view of immigrants & Germans
by doubtfull1799 ini was inspired by @lastmanstanding to check out the jan 15 1892 watchtower and came across this little gem from the same article covering russell's trip to europe.
i think this will be particularly interesting to the aussies here considering our ongoing debate about the treatment of immigrants and refugees.
the people are generally intelligent, industrious, busy and comfortably clothed and fed—far beyond our previous suppo sitions.

Is he basically saying that the Germans he encountered in America, who arrived as immigrants, were in his opinion ignorant and degraded people. So that when he travelled to Germany, he was surprised to find that the German people in their own country were intelligent, industrious and well presented? So he concludes that Germany must have sent their worst to the United States and kept the best in Germany.
If that's what he meant to say, then I guess it's a somewhat obnoxious point of observation to make. But it's hardly Earth shatteringly racist, especially for its time. Early Watchtower literature is absolutely full of national and racial stereotypes, as was entirely typical for the period. I'm sure there are lots of worse examples, about Germans and others.

Really? Why did the former Bible Student call the police?
I agree I don’t like Lloyd’s style. But I don’t grudge Lloyd making money from Watchtower. If I could figure out how to do it I would do it myself! Ray Franz, Randy Watters... others have done it. If they do it well it’s not instead of work, it is work.

No wonder they've run out of money. It looks like they overstretched themselves.
Having no food facilities for visitors is a bit mean. Even JWs visitng the British museum can buy a pizza. That would put me off making any sort of contribution for sure.

How do cultural norms impact Witnesses throughout the world?
by optimisticskeptic inan easy example is beards.
i hear they're not unusual in places like europe, even on appointed brothers.
it also seems like they're becoming more accepted in more liberal parts of the states.

Sisters wear trousers in Norway.
Brothers commit fornication more regularly in Brazil.
They fly flags on Kingdom Halls in Chile.
Some JWs are nudists in Germany. (Really? Maybe I made that one up)
In Mexico they called themselves a "cultural group" for years and curtailed prayers, songs and Bible use.
In some countries JWs can vote or pretend to vote if it makes life easier.
In Brooklyn they dance to pop songs on the roof and post it on YouTube.

Are there any Bible Students who meet regularly in the United Kingdom? I am not aware of any, and I have been looking.
Way back in 2001 I was in touch with an elderly Bible Student in England, but I suspect he may have since died.
I am doubtful there are any active Bible Students left in Britain but I'd be happy to find out if there are some.

Does "Hanlon's Razor" apply to the Governing Body?
by stuckinarut2 ini recently learned of the term "hanlon's razor".. wikipedia defines it as: .
hanlon's razor is an aphorism expressed in various ways including "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
" it recommends a way of eliminating unlikely explanations for a phenomenon (a philosophical razor).. so could it be said that this applies to the gb / society ?.

Yes, definitely. With a few sinister exceptions, such as Jaracz.

Panpsychism - a philosophy with a future
by slimboyfat inat one time scientists believed that living things and non-living things were made of different material, accounting for the unique properties of living things.
this idea is called vitalism and is no longer popular.
what does remain popular (in fact is still the dominant view) is a similar idea that things that experience the world (humans, frogs, mice) are different from things that don't experience the world (potatoes, rocks, snowflakes).

We don't know and may never know for sure. Radical emergence is an explanation that results from a commitment to reductive materialism. Panpsychism is an alternative way of understanding how consciousness relates to the material world that rejects both dualism and reductive materialism. The arguments on either side don't appear to relate to something called "woo". As far as I can see this word "woo" is a rhetorical way of dismissing something you disagree without going to the bother of explaining why.
