I've been watching events closely. I am acquainted with the history. In addition I have been comparing and contrasting JWs with other churches: Mormons, SDAs, Christadelphians, Unitarians, Merhodists, Christian Scientists and others. This is my considered judgement: Watchtower is in serious trouble and liable to collapse imminently.

Yes I don't think it will survive more than a few years.

Monthly Broadcast Change
by Brian J inthe mind numbing gilead graduation part 1/part 2 will now replace the usually fast moving, lets get this family worship over with, monthly broadcasts several times a year.
praise jehovah for giving us 7 men, who put their underwear on one leg at a time like the rest of us, to help us keep pace with god's sovereign and celestial chariot.

Does anyone else find Samuel Herd’s manner a bit odd in this video? He treads a fine line between mischievous playfulnesss and flippant disregard and not always sure what side he comes down on.
I don’t know if this is his usual manner I don’t often watch these things.

People should listen more carefully. To be fair, death is a rather startling thing to hear and sometimes people block out things they don't want to hear.

Another congregation bites the dust
by NikL inwent to the meeting last night with my believing wife.
the co was visiting and delivered a really cult-ish talk on loyalty but that's another story.. they made the announcement that starting january 1st they were going to have only 3 congregations in this town instead of 4.. they are dissolving one and growing the territories of the remaining 3. the reason given is that many of the elders are getting up there in age and can't do what they used to do.
basically not enough elders and ministerial servants...or even men reaching out for that matter.

Sisters carrying microphones? That's pretty drastic.

Given the population of South Dakota and publisher ratio in the United States, it would indicate more than 3000 JWs. Even if South Dakota is well below average for JWs, 330 is still far too low.
According to JW website there are five congregations in Rapid City alone, and seven in Sioux Falls. Then there's Pierre and Chamberlain as mentioned, and Gregory and Watertown and other rural congregations. Definitely a lot more than 330 JWs in South Dakota.

Only 330 JWs in the state of South Dakota? Doubtful.
“We believe that somebody, a higher power, kind of oversees these things,” he said. “When it didn’t sell, we kind of figured it wasn’t meant to sell.”
This doesn't sound to me like something a JW would say.
The easy reference to the Pew research and other obscure knowledge indicates to me the piece was written by a former JW, not a disinterested journalist. The figures cited sound pretty suspect. I believe JWs are beginning to decline, but this article seems like gross exaggeration mixed with some bits of truth

They said the reason they were cutting the literature was to focus on the "digital future". If they're now cutting down the digital output as well, what does that mean? They're just plain lazy? Out of ideas? Out of money? Or all three.

Russells view of immigrants & Germans
by doubtfull1799 ini was inspired by @lastmanstanding to check out the jan 15 1892 watchtower and came across this little gem from the same article covering russell's trip to europe.
i think this will be particularly interesting to the aussies here considering our ongoing debate about the treatment of immigrants and refugees.
the people are generally intelligent, industrious, busy and comfortably clothed and fed—far beyond our previous suppo sitions.

Is he basically saying that the Germans he encountered in America, who arrived as immigrants, were in his opinion ignorant and degraded people. So that when he travelled to Germany, he was surprised to find that the German people in their own country were intelligent, industrious and well presented? So he concludes that Germany must have sent their worst to the United States and kept the best in Germany.
If that's what he meant to say, then I guess it's a somewhat obnoxious point of observation to make. But it's hardly Earth shatteringly racist, especially for its time. Early Watchtower literature is absolutely full of national and racial stereotypes, as was entirely typical for the period. I'm sure there are lots of worse examples, about Germans and others.
