anyone else had this following convention

so my mam visited today.

she recently went to convention in north east england, newcastle i think they still have them at.

before she left she said (this is her exact words btw) "you have put me in a difficult position and i can't come to see you anymore".. she told me that as i live with my partner and we are unmarried that she can't visit anymore.

The counsel against inter-racial marriage was definitely in print. Until very recently they still advised against inter-racial marriage. I'm not even sure if they officially renounced their earlier comments or stand by them in an "at the time it made sense" kind of justification.

I did wonder if the information was entirely accurate. I'd like to see some corroborating evidence. It's easy to get carried away because Cohn's style is easy to follow and his viewpoints are easy to agree with, especially his concluding comments about the disadvantages of the Witness dreamland approach to life.

"People have data about who went to a movie last weekend, or how many books were sold, or how many cases of the flu walked into an emergency room. And I cannot tell you how many people were shot by police in the United States last month, last year, or anything about the demographics. And that's a very bad place to be."

When talking about statistics it's important to remember that what the state chooses to count in the first place is in itself a highly political choice.

It's like JWs collecting information on hours spent on the ministry, magazine placements, and even downloads and views these days. They don't however publish the number DFed, although they have access to that information. Nor do they keep record of people who commit suicide after being DFed, although they could easily do so if they wished. Collecting and publishing such information would not serve their interests.

I heard on the radio that in the United States they do not collect official statistics on the number of unarmed people killed by police. These figures need to be collected and collated unofficially by groups advocating change.
