Chloe---Yikes. The birthday cake is said to be from Greek times---has something to do with Artemis, the goddess of the moon.
I think some of the explanations for the reasons that other holidays and special occasions are not celebrated are pretty freakin' ridiculous. Why wedding anniversaries and not b-days? Why not Valentine's day (although that has some pretty interesting origins). In the US, why not Thanksgiving??? I know the reasons they give, but they are all lame.

forgive me for not knowing the appropriate etiquette on these boards...i've been df'd for 8 years now but still searching for friends who really understand how long it takes to get the whole jw thing out of your skin.... am kinda hoping i can meet some mutual minds on here!

Welcome! I left the organization about 8 years ago. I wasn't df'd, I disassociated myself, but just recently started to post here. It has been a relief to find so much support here. I think that leaving the JW's is sort of like recovering from an addiction---you are never quite done, you are always recovering. People will tell you to "get over it", but it's not that easy.
When I left, I had to force myself to "deprogram" and reconstruct nearly my entire belief system. It takes work and research and perseverence. Come back here as often as you can, it really does help. It's sometimes like free therapy :)

My favorite word to say is "blue". You have to pucker your lips and it is almost like a kiss

i have a hard time expressing my emotions in front of others.
i mean, i'd rather be naked than to let anyone see me cry.
however, there are a few movies that can, in spite of my best efforts, make me bust out crying like a little girl: .
Even some commercials can make me cry!!
I with kls on this one--if it has to do with an animal getting hurt, bring me the whole box!! Gawd, I even teared up the other night when I watch Planet of the Apes!! And when I watched Shindler's list, I cried the WHOLE time, even after it was over!

i am so mad, i don't even know if i am posting under the right subject!.
my parents (still thick as thieves with the jw's--dad's an elder) were asked to move to myrtle point, or last year because their congregation was not doing so well and they needed some help.
