Speculation Society
by ballistic inmost people view the bible either as "a good book" or "god's word" and some disregard it alltogether.. i think, though, that russel and others of his time went beyond what most people see the bible as.
as i read through various russel stories, i got the impression that he thought the bible contained some kind of hidden code.
dates and figures carefully interwoven into the texts, which when cross referenced and applied maths supplied dates for the 2nd coming, or the end of the world.. i would suggest that the whole of the modern day society is based on the premise that the bible contains these hidden messages which were "sealed up ... for a later time".. i hope i am not stating the obvious, for certainly the society have set various dates, and subsequently changed their beliefs.

How Easy Was It To Leave?
by ballistic inwhen i was df, i actually wanted to return which isn't suprising when you look at their brain washing: * http://www.escapefromwatchtower.com/mind.html.
i think it took me a couple of years to fully get over it and now the scripture "like a dog returning to it's vomit" comes to mind.. i gather some people here came to their senses while still in the org.
did anyone actually find it easy to leave?.

My paranoid conspiracy theory....
by ballistic inthere was a boom in cults starting up at the start of the last century.
do you think russel, with his masonic and zionist influences constructed a purely money-making "pyramid" style religion?.
it is interesting how the pyramid even influenced his early teachings.. i see a parallel between him and what's his name that started dianetics, ron hubbard.. interesting how some witnesses became involved in their own pyramid schemes, also.. i wonder if russel ever left the truth about this, perhaps, "sealed up unto the last days" in an envelope entitled "new light", not to be opened until some later date?.

Internet Use?
by ballistic inwhat is the society's view on internet use?
i get the impression it is discouraged.. i also ask because the society over the years have had a love hate relationship with technology, extolling it's virtues one minute (such as in their early use of colour film and portable record players), and then blaming it for many of todays ills.. interestingly, i just found a section in the proclaimers book, stating that the staffing levels at watchtower construction sites around the globe had been reduced by using modern technology, while other articles suggest that technology is an evil in that it will put people out of jobs.. p.s.
i only have literature up to 1995, but the number of references to technology in awake!
