Craig,
I've been there. It aint pretty!
Every one of us good ol boys over 50 looks in the mirror and says.............."What the hell happened"?
Get some rest. You'll be ok in a few weeks.

so i laid 1500 sf of sod thursday (approx 2,000 #), and unloaded 1500 # of sand yesterday, and did a whole lot of roto-tilling and raking and dog-turd scooping, not to mention the idiot "helpers" at home depot.. anyway, my poor old body (54 years old) foolishly listened to my 18-year old brain and said (like that little devil on the shoulder): "sure, you can do it, you can do it!!!".
lol.
pain is life, and life is pain.

does anyone else know of someone who has a hanging picture of russel out where everyone else can see it?
my grandma is the most "spiritual" person i know.
isn't that "idol worship"?
Is your Grandma a Witness?
Usually, those who have a picture of Russell in their home are part of the original Bible Students. No respectable JW would have one in plain view. The Bible Students are still around and doing well.
It's hard to believe in this day and age that people still look at Russell as the Laodecean Messenger..........the original Faithfull and Discrete Slave.

i tend to accept that mine did - i was baptised prior to the changes that made one a 'watchtower disciple'.
my dedication was and is to god - prob the reason i am finally out.. opinions?.
jeff .
Jeff,
I never gave thought about the change in baptism vows as a JW since I was baptised in 1970 and really didn't remember what the questions were about. My first baptism was as an infant Catholic. Second baptism was as a JW in 1970. My third baptism is taking place tonight in my church at the evening service. There are 10 of us getting baptised.
My joy and happiness are more than I ever had as a JW. The spiritual food that is dispensed in most Christian churches is much more filling than that given at a Kingdom Hall.
To me, this is a milestone in my life. I just didn't think my baptism as a JW stood for anything Christian!
This is my choice! I would never judge another on their choices in life. God knows I did way to much judging as a JW.

my husband and i visited with an old friend who is about to be disfellowshipped and guess what he told us:.
car groups regularly drive by our house to check it out.
an elder said he saw ... gasp ... a christmas tree this past christmas (which he had to have snuck a look through a side window because our front windows always have the shutters closed!.
Such a nice bunch of people. True brothely love Yeah right! As someone posted.......would they drive by bringing food if you were poor? No way!
Please don't think I'm hijacking your thread but this ties in to this. When I was first appointed as an elder in the mid 1980's, a couple of my fellow elders approached me and hatched out a plan for me to spy on a sister. She hadn't been around for awhile and wouldn't know that I was now an elder. She was married to one of the brothers who I was friends with, but left him. Seems she liked the wine bottle more than anything else.
They had me and an MS stake out a bar in our territory to see if she arrived or left with another man. The MS had more sense than I did. He didn't think it was right. But me being the robot I was at the time ate it up. After all.......wasn't I looking out for Jehovah's house? I did this for two nights and then my wife opened my eyes about how stupid this was and how the other elder a....holes were USING me. Her point wa......"Why didn't they ever do this before.......by themselves?" God rest her soul! She was absoluty right. I resigned as an elder in 1991 and got happy again!
Sure glad my eyes have been opened.

if you had your chance who would you want to meet face to face, talk to them, spend some time picking their brain, have a dinner with, get to know better?.
i have many but want to hold off for now!!!.
abr.
I've met three people from this forum so far. All three are absolutely fantastic human beings.
I'm looking forward to meeting Mouthy and whoever else comes to WNFJ this October.
The bottom line is..............I'd like to meet everyone from JWD who has an iota of sincerity and compassion.

so friday my brother and i found a nursing home for my mom to stay at.
it was a very hard thing to do.
he had me go hunting.
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Sparky)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
If a hug from old HappyDad can do any good......consider yourself hugged for as long as you want.
It's tough dealing with this stuff. I went through similar before my Mom died in 1998.
I'll be your adopted dad if you want.
Take care,

i have been lurking for quite some time now on jwd.
my story is pretty much just like everyone else's, "only the names have been changed".
in reading your posts, i have both laughed and cried till tears ran down my cheeks.
James Thomas...
What the hell have you been drinking and smoking?
Your comments have shown you to be a complete ass as to what jo was putting across.
I think you are the one with relationship problems. Have you no understanding of "feeling and compassion" for what a person is going through? Why make it an issue as to what this person believes in his heart?
But then again.........many emotional wimps use the keyboard to make themselves look impressive on this and other boards.

just curious...... where are some weird places you have seen watchtowers and awakes placed?
doctors offices and laundermats seem to be most popular, where else have you seen them placed ?
( i saw a bunch placed in a dumpster once!
This past Sunday at about 5:10 PM, I saw the magazines at a bus stop...........in the hands of a JW waiting for the bus. Thing is.......this was in a not too good area of where I live. I don't know this guy even though it is in the town I live.
I've seen him before waiting for a bus in a different part of town. He was holding the magazines then too!
This must be his way of padding his field service report. Probably starts counting as soon as he leaves his house or apartment and stops when he gets to his destination.
I think the next time I see him, i'm going to stop and have a chat. I printed out some of the brochures that are on Freeminds. I'd also like to ask him if he is counting his time. Come to think of it, I always have my digital camera in my glove box. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...........my apostate mind thinks I should take his picture and post it here under Jokes and Humor.

i now have a life beyond jehovah's witnesses.
i am able to impact kids in their development into young adults who have risen above challenging circumstances.
these children are always impoverished but may be challenged in other ways, as well.. my job is to mold them into productive citizens, contributing adults.
Thanks for the update.
I'm very happy for you.

i remembers skating parties at least once a month, volleyball at the park, get-togethers where everyone would play bible charades and sing kingdoms songs, going to the river to swim with the whole congregation after the sunday meeting, spending the afternoon at the lake eating watermelon and water skiing.
it was a great upbringing!
also, i dont want to leave out the strong feelings of eliteness that i had even as a child, of having the truth.

You have a PM.
