Elder keeps calling and calling and calling

by troubled mind in

since the sheparding visit a few weeks ago i have had three phone calls and two drop bys from the elders .

we have been gone both times they stopped by (but our son saw them and did not answer the door ).

the phone messages are directed to me not my husband, and the one left today he sounded a bit on edge .

I had the same problem about 8 years ago.......2 years after I quit going. Just don't answer the phone unless you know who is calling (caller ID) and don't answer the door (peep hole).

However......the PO caught me once as l came out from the rear of the house from doing yard work and he just pulled up. I was like a deer in the headlights then. My excuse was that I was still recovering from getting broadsided on my Harley and told him everything he wanted to hear. That was 2003.

These days.....if anyone sees me since I've moved.........I'm totally free and will lay it all out for them. No more fear!

Let's get that field service time in...

i normally don't go around looking for jws.

after my morning coffee and breakfast taco at jim's, i went over to big lot's to look around.

outside of the store, they have an island where a couple of trees were either saved - or planted - and provide a nice shade during the day.. under these trees, in the shade, was this fella - dressed in nice slacks and a shirt - wearing a tie - reading - or flipping through what appeared to be an 'awake' or a 'watchtower'.

Pathetic! But then again I fudged my time slip in similar ways when I was an elder. Had to have the magic number every month! Once I resigned as an elder, I was lucky if six hours was a good month. And some of that was fudged too!

Mothers' Day and JWs

after my mom died, my aunts and i were going through her personal belongings for my dad.

late that night, in one of the last boxes we went through, i found a mother's day card that i had made for her when i was in first grade.

even though mother's day was a forbidden holiday, she kept that card for all those years.. i wonder, in spite of their surface indifference, how many jw mothers wish that they could participate in mothers day, at best, or resent it, at worst?.

It's my belief from my own JW life that the majority would like to have some recognition on special days....whether it be Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Birthday, etc..

In my own family including in-laws, we always gave recognition to that person on their day. Of course we kept it only in the family. Thankfully, none of them except for one nutty sister-in-law, we never had a problem because we all had a separate life away from the KH.

And when it came to Christmas, we always had a "Just Because We Love You" day a month or so after Xmas and bought presents for the kids.

What a horrible way of life we once had with all eyes scrutinizing every move we made!

I'm happy to be free and today, I celebrate everything with my few living relatives. Which reminds me........I need to call my elderly Aunts (one here in the Pittsburgh area and the other one in Hemet, CA. and wish them Happy Mother's Day.

How many you you hated to wait in the car while someone was on a good call!

something i have not heard before on this board is waiting in the car out in service or any of the woman who were elders wives waiting on their husbands while in an elders meeting.. i was 24 years old when i got married to an older man he was 41 and had been an elder for about 12 years.

i truly loved my husband when we got married.

i truly loved him like crazy.

Finally finished my college degree

this week i finally finished college.

feels great to finally be completed.. i have to say that the process has been therapeutic.

a year and a half ago when i started to go back i still defined myself in terms of my experience as a jw.. that is all gone now.

my personal recommendation: synecdoche, new york.

it's one of those movies that words fail utterly to capture--which really is the hallmark of a good movie, i suppose.

Don't know if this one was mentioned but I loved "The World's Fastest Indian" starring Anthony Hopkins. Based on the true story of Burt Munro from New Zealand and his quest to have the fastest 1920' Indian motorcycle. He actually made it to the Bonneville salt flats and set records.

i know it sounds strange but all the jw's i have contact with are no longer "encouraging" me to attend meetings.

in fact not one of them invited me to the memorial even though we had dinner together at my house three nights before.

i think i have them totally bamboozled with my reasoning why i don't attend.

I forgot to add! I got rid of my house a little over a year ago and am living in a townhouse apartment. None of them has ever tried to look me up. I'm sure if they wanted to, all they have to do is look in the phone book for my address.

It's been ten years since I left. The last meeting I went to was Memorial 2003 out of a little guilt that crept in. Since then I've only run into three JW's from my old KH. The one female was a complete idiot. The other two (husband and wife) talked real nice about their kids and mine. No mention of all about JWism. I think they refrained because their daughter left the BS several years ago. She should be in her mid twenties now.

But there is one female who sends a letter about twice a year trying to "encourage" me. GAG GAG! She always talks about how her late husband and I were such good friends. I couldn't stand her husband. He didn't have all his marbles and always wanted to go in FS with me. I found a lot of excuses not to.

Today, if I would ever run into anyone, they would know without a doubt that I would never set foot in a KH again.
